Boko Haram’s
Bin Laden Connection

The Daily Beast, by Eli Lake

Original Article

Some intelligence analysts believe that Osama bin Laden provided everything from seed money to strategic direction to the now-infamous Nigerian terror group. In 2002, Osama bin Laden dispatched an aide to Nigeria to hand out $3 million in local currency to a wide array of Salafist political organizations there that shared al Qaeda’s goal of imposing Islamic rule.

A couple of weeks have passed since the release of smoking gun emails connecting a White House aide to former U.N. ambassador Susan Rice’s Sunday morning talk show tour in which she repeatedly misstated the reasons for the Benghazi nightmare of 9-11-12. As Republican lawmakers begin putting in place a select committee to investigate further, there is much discussion about whether Democrats will be willing to send their own participants to the committee.

WASHINGTON, March 20, 2014 – Who is John Beale and why is he ruining your life? John Beale was a career employee in the Environmental Protection Agency. He was not qualified for the job he got. In fact, it is a bit of a mystery how he got the job. Beale defrauded the government, claiming to be an employee of the Central Intelligence Agency taking lengthy absences from his job in order to go to serve the CIA. Beale served thirty-two months in prison once he was found out.

College professor David Brat knocked off House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) Tuesday in the biggest congressional upset in years. Mr. Brat ran an underfunded campaign based in part on Mr. Cantor’s supposed support for comprehensive immigration reform, when Mr. Cantor has for months been seen by immigration reform advocates as the key roadblock to House legislation. Mr. Brat was so unknown that his Wikipedia entry was only two sentences before Tuesday night. Mr. Brat, an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., had support from radio host Laura Ingraham, who hosted a rally with him in a

The staggering Republican primary defeat tonight of Eric Cantor, the second highest-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives and the third most-powerful Republican in Washington, is a reminder of just how volatile American politics has become. And how responsive. Eric Cantor wasn’t supposed to lose. His own pollster had him up by, get this, 34 points the other week. He’d raised nearly $5 million, and in the past two weeks spent $1 million against his rival’s $79,000. Not enough. There’s a lot of triumphalist talk tonight about sending a message to Washington and the establishment vs. the outsiders and all

A bipartisan delegation of House lawmakers are circulating a measure to reprimand the Obama administration for violating a U.S. law mandating that the administration provide Congress with advance notice before releasing dangerous terrorists from the Guantanamo Bay prison camp. The resolution comes in response to White House efforts to keep Congress in the dark about its controversial decision to release five top Taliban prisoners in exchange for captured Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel admitted in testimony to lawmakers Wednesday that the Obama administration intentionally and knowingly ignored the law, which mandates that Congress be given 30

The problem with Hillary Clinton’s recent statement of her financial troubles- in which she stated that she and her husband were “dead broke” when they left the White House- is not that her being well off would make it difficult to run as a Democrat, says Charles Krauthammer, but rather that it demonstrates her “intrinsic insincerity.” “She is continually crafting what she says, crafting what her position is going to be, crafting conduct to meet a certain perception,” he said on Thursday’s Special Report. “When you do that day in or day out…you trip up because you can’t remember the

Retailers are starting to push a new trend in menswear: the short suit. The ensemble looks like a regular suit from the waist up, with a sport coat over a button-down shirt and sometimes a tie or bowtie. Instead of trousers, however, the suit´s bottoms are cropped at the knee. J. Crew, Topman, Asos, and Barneys are among the retailers selling the short suit this season. They may be taking cues from fashion icon Pharrell Williams, who donned tuxedo shorts to the Academy Awards earlier this year. "It’s definitely having a moment, particularly with younger guys," Jon Patrick, the creative director at menswear

It is just about impossible to keep up with all of the Obama administration scandals, but the corruption of the Internal Revenue Service ranks near the top. Unfortunately, it has gone hand in hand with Barack Obama and Eric Holder’s corruption of the Department of Justice. The perversion of law enforcement agencies for political ends is starkly revealed by the fact that in 2010, as part of its effort to stem the Tea Party movement, the IRS gave the FBI disks containing more than 1.1 million pages of documents on Section 501 non-profits, so that the FBI could selectively prosecute

The flood of children entering the U.S. illegally from Mexico has overloaded federal housing and processing facilities, creating conditions that border control agents fear could result in the spread of disease. [Snip] Tony Banegas, consul of Honduras to Arizona, told KPHO-TV that children had complained about the food at the shelter. ´This morning they switched to burritos, but they complained the eggs were cold,´ Banegas said. ´They couldn’t eat them and even made them sick. They complained they had a burrito but had to throw it in the trash.´ The children are sleeping in plastic cots but about 2,000 mattresses have reportedly

Representative Peter King (R-NY) warned on Morning Joe Wednesday morning that the Rand Paul/Ted Cruz wing of the Republican Party would use House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) surprise defeat last night to push a far-right agenda bent on shutting the government down. “My concern is a lot of things are going to be dead and pushed aside,” King said. “I’m concerned that the Ted Cruz supporters, the Rand Paul supporters, are going to use this as an excuse to basically stop the government from functioning. Thank god there’s no debt ceiling bill coming up. Thank god there’s no way

In a stunning upset propelled by tea party activists, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) was defeated in Tuesday’s congressional primary, with insurgent David Brat delivering an unpredicted and devastating loss to the second most powerful Republican in the House who has widely been touted as a future speaker. The race called shortly after 8 p.m. Eastern by the Associated Press. Brat’s victory gives the GOP a volatile outlook for the rest of the campaign season, with the party establishment struggling late Tuesday to grapple with the news and tea party conservatives relishing a surprising win. “This is an earthquake,”

The terrorists who attacked the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi on September 11, 2012 used cell phones, seized from State Department personnel during the attacks, and U.S. spy agencies overheard them contacting more senior terrorist leaders to report on the success of the operation, multiple sources confirmed to Fox News. The disclosure is important because it adds to the body of evidence establishing that senior U.S. officials in the Obama administration knew early on that Benghazi was a terrorist attack, and not a spontaneous protest over an anti-Islam video that had gone awry, as the administration claimed for

Before he became a Taliban prisoner, before he wrote in his journal “I am the lone wolf of deadly nothingness,” before he ever joined the Army, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard for psychological reasons, said close friends who were worried about his emotional health at the time. The 2006 discharge and a trove of Bergdahl’s writing — the handwritten journal along with other essays, stories and e-mails provided to The Washington Post — paint a portrait of a deeply complicated and fragile young man who was by his own account struggling to maintain his mental

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday that the Irving-based Boy Scouts of America perpetuates “the worst stereotypes” by barring gay people from becoming Scout leaders. “The continuation of a policy that discriminates against gay adult leaders — by an iconic American institution — only preserves and perpetuates the worst kind of stereotypes,” Holder said in a speech to the gay civil rights group Lambda Legal in Washington. Holder did not announce any legal action against the Boy Scouts. A Supreme Court decision 14 years ago said the Scouts, as a private entity, had a right to discriminate against
