Rockwell´s are treasures - my father, who was a neighbor , modeled for some of his paintings.

That said, I hope they get a dollar for it.

Major Democratic donor John Morgan blasted the national party’s chair, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, as an “irritant” who is becoming “irrelevant” after she voiced concerns about a medical marijuana proposal he helped put on Florida’s ballot this November. “I know personally the most-powerful players in Washington DC. And I can tell you that Debbie Wasserman Schultz isn’t just disliked. She’s despised. She’s an irritant,” Morgan, an outspoken Orlando trial attorney, told the Miami Herald. “Why she’s trying to undermine this amendment I don’t know,” he said. “But I’ll tell you I will never give a penny or raise a penny for

"Because I do think an attack is going to come and hit us or Europe, and then people are going to swing this right around." Alexander said that the NSA "got way behind in the media on this." President Barack Obama’s National Security Adviser, Susan Rice, hinted on Friday that the United States was sending weapons to the Syrian rebels, when she said Washington was taking important steps in Syria by offering both "lethal and non-lethal" aid to the moderate opposition. The comments were made in an interview Rice gave to CNN. “The United States has been the single largest contributor of humanitarian assistance, providing over 1.7 billion dollars,” she said. “That´s why the United States has ramped up its support for the moderate vetted opposition, providing lethal and nonlethal support where we can to support both the civilian opposition and

Liberal commentators long lauded the Veteran’s Administration (VA) health-care system as a model for the nation. New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called it a “huge policy success” and “a real live case of impressive cost control in health care.” His colleague, Nicholas Kristof, gushed that the VA health system is, “one of the best-performing and most cost-effective elements in the American medical establishment.” And Phillip Longman, in his book Best Care Anywhere, touted the VA system as “the benchmark for quality medicine in the United States.” Now, the ongoing scandal about record falsification at Veteran’s Health Administration (VHA) hospitals

WASHINGTON — If the Keystone XL pipeline is not built — and more oil from the Canadian oil sands is moved by rail — there could be hundreds more deaths and thousands more injuries than expected over the course of a decade, according to an updated State Department analysis of the contested project that was released Friday. The report is the latest twist in the long fight over the proposed 1,700-mile pipeline, which would carry crude oil from Alberta to Gulf Coast refineries. The findings are significant: The State Department has the authority to approve the pipeline because it would cross

Bowe Bergdahl’s name has been emblazoned across cable news chyrons all week, but on Tuesday Rachel Maddow was talking about a different American POW: Jessica Lynch. Maddow opened her show with a lengthy recollection of the 2003 rescue of Lynch, who was captured after her vehicle was ambushed on the third day of the Iraq war. Lynch was initially portrayed by the Pentagon as a hero, a “little girl Rambo” as she later described it, who went down guns blazing and riddled with bullets. The story proved a myth; as Lynch quickly clarified, her gun had jammed and she wasn’t

Recently at a funeral for a catcher dead too young at the age of 55, his college teammates recalled his showboating antics. One game, they recalled, the catcher homered his first time up. Watching the ball sail off into the distance, he tossed the bat away dramatically, embarked on an emphatic trot, and for the coup de grace sang out loud in his Boston accent, “Goodnight, Irene!” The catcher’s next time up, an enormous din erupted, loud whistles and a call arising in unison for the pitcher to enforce one of baseball’s unwritten rules, stipulating that hitters shouldn’t show up pitchers

WASHINGTON — New documents reveal how the Clinton administration strategically — and disingenuously — leaked the names of potential nominees to the Supreme Court, held back potentially embarrassing documents, and stage-managed televised confirmation hearings. One document, penned by close Clinton aide Doug Band, exposes what reporters have long suspected — that the first round of leaks of potential court nominees is often removed from reality. “During the first [Justice Byron White] vacancy, many names were floated and leaked, mostly to appease various constituencies,” Band wrote in an internal 1998 memo, one of thousands of documents released Friday by the Clinton

It turns out, Jordan hadn’t been able to get on an organized trip to Normandy with other veterans, so he made his own way there: Staff later discovered he had joined other veterans in France and was safe and well at a hotel in Ouistreham. The president reportedly has told his close allies that losing the Senate would be "unbearable," but his administration is doing everything possible to make things difficult for his party´s most vulnerable senators. On energy issues alone, the administration´s decisions to impose new Environmental Protection Agency regulations on coal-fired plants and indefinitely delay a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline could help burnish his long-term environmental legacy, but at the expense of losing complete control of Congress.
