A front-row seat at the culture war

Is it just me, or has the culture war between right and left been escalating wildly over the past few months?Everywhere you turn, there is another leftist assault on traditional values, as well as the occasional volley fired back by the retreating forces of Christianity and sanity. This is not a fight about religion; it is a fight about freedom — and believe it or not, the Judeo-Christian tradition provides the philosophical underpinnings of Western culture [SNIP] Or, at least, it did. Now, however, we are seeing the fundamental transformation of Western culture and even Christianity itself into a monolithic,

I will give you a perfect example.

As you all know, Cosmopolitan magazine ran an article this past week--linked to and commented on this very site--about that absolute freakshow that cheerfully filmed herself having an abortion.

I made several comments on that site. One of the first responses to my response was a statement about how I was a religious jerk. The second was, I was a "typical man", who had no right to make any comments on the topic.

I enjoyed noting publicly the fascism that spewed from these women...and there were a number of wimpy men that called this woman "brave". I called those "men" to task and defined what bravery truly is.

Of course, many of them would not answer back, and when they did, there was no logic or defensible position. Just that I "did not know what I was talking about" or was "hateful". And don´t forget the leftists´ favorite talking point about abortion...why don´t I just shut up and support all these "unwanted kids" myself.

Hateful...one of the many new codewords to try to stifle anyone´s opinion. That, along with bigot and homophobe.

Sorry, I will continue to stand up for the defenseless...and guess what, I have lawyers too.

Well said Mr.Miele - your articles are always on point and this one is particularly so - thoughtful and challenging - America has been turned upside down and it´s values too. We are now a God-less society beholden to none other than old Nick himself. We must change this perversion.

Spot on.
I´m truly concerned that the cultural damage done to our society may not be reversed. However, if it does turn around, it will take a movement of all Christians coming to together standing up in solidarity.

Miele´s articles are always worth the read and the perspective he gives.
In my bones I feel that something cataclysmic may take place in the near future as so many have turned away from God.

As I read the article, a Bible story about trusting in God and following His commands came to mind. It is the story in Genesis 19 of Lot´s wife being turned into a pillar of salt for disobeying God´s command.

The story of Lot´s wife begins in Genesis 19. Two angels arrived in Sodom about evening, and Lot invited them to spend the night. About dawn, these visiting angels urgently told Lot to gather his family and to flee, because of a coming disaster for the iniquity of the city. The angels took hold of Lot´s hand, his wife´s hand and his daughters and brought them out of the city. The command was given, "Flee for your life! Do not look behind you, nor stop anywhere in the Plain; flee to the hills, lest you be swept away." Lot´s wife did look back, though, and was turned into a pillar of salt.

One common view of Lot´s wife turning to salt was as punishment for disobeying the angels´ warning. By looking back at the "evil cities" she betrayed her secret longing for that way of life. She was deemed unworthy to be saved and thus turned to a pillar of salt.*

*Used Wikipedia for story content. There are other versions of the story, but they are consistently about disobeying God´s command.

I should have known it was too good to be true. For a brief, shining moment it appeared as though the Montana Republican Party was standing up to be counted. At the party’s state convention in Billings last weekend, delegates voted overwhelmingly against continuing to allow nonparty members to vote in their primary elections. Whoa! That would be revolutionary! In order to help select Republican candidates, you would actually have to declare you were a Republican! Outrageous, said the Democrats! We often don’t have anyone to vote for in our own primaries, and we don’t want to be deprived of the opportunity to

There is a name for what the government did to the Washington Redskins last week. It is called extortion. Extortion, as defined by Merriam-Webster’s, is the crime of getting money from someone by the use of force or threats. I much prefer the definition in the 1828 dictionary compiled by Noah Webster himself: “The act or practice of wresting any thing from a person by force, duress, menaces, authority, or by any undue exercise.” You probably heard the story about how the U.S. Office of Patents and Trademarks has canceled the Redskins’ trademark on the team name because the team’s

All right-minded people hate discrimination. It’s too bad we no longer know what that is. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, one of the most recent government agencies created by Congress in homage to the oppressive world of “Atlas Shrugged,” was in the news last month because it announced (in showy communist self-criticism fashion) that it had been guilty of massive discrimination against its own employees. What the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau really does is anyone’s guess. In essence, it shakes down banks and other lenders and financial companies in an effort to keep the 1 percent on their toes and let

One of the many signs of the imminent collapse of the United States is that we can’t even agree on the meaning of treason any more. [SNIP] Because now we have a country that doesn’t heap calumny upon the head of a traitor, but rather looks to lionize him, reward him and turn him into a culture hero. I am speaking, of course, of Edward Snowden — a criminal who makes Benedict Arnold look like a rank amateur when it comes to treason.

As we celebrate the ultimate sacrifices of hundreds of thousands of Americans who died in the defense of liberty, perhaps it is fitting that we pause for a moment of silence to contemplate the imminent loss of the Constitution which they had sworn to uphold. Some would say that the Constitution has already been twisted beyond recognition by activist judges, congressional chicanery and tyrannical presidents [SNIP] But there is one manipulation of the Constitution underway now which is so destructive to our republic that it makes almost everything else which has come before it seem like child’s play. What if everything you know is fake? That is a premise that was repeatedly explored by author Philip K. Dick in his science fiction novels. Some of his stories have been made into popular films such as “Total Recall,” where a blue collar worker in the far future doesn’t know whether he is really a secret agent or just pretending to be one [SNIP] I suppose we should not be surprised that so many people prefer to hang on to their illusions about how America works than to admit that so much of what they know just isn’t so, as

It’s about time. Six hundred days, to be exact. That’s how much time has passed since Sept. 11, 2012, when the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were murdered in Benghazi by al-Qaida terrorists. And finally, on Friday, Speaker of the House John Boehner did what millions of Americans have been calling for since before the 2012 election — appoint a select committee to investigate Benghazi and to bring the truth to the American public. Of course, the truth would have gone down a lot easier 600 days ago. Instead, we have had 600 days of coverup and obfuscation from the White House, the

The last few weeks I’ve explored ways in which liberals have worked to undermine conservatives in the American political scene. This week, let’s look at one typical instance of so-called conservatives shooting themselves in the foot. Examples of this abound, and you will forgive me if I don’t make a laundry list of all the ways in which Republicans are played for suckers by Democrats. That would be too painful. Instead, let’s just look at the virtual surrender of traditional values expressed by Speaker of the House John Boehner last week while campaigning in his home district in Ohio. The headline in

You can call it a symbol or you can call it a coincidence, but I had a phone call on Good Friday which gave me a perfect column for this Easter Sunday. Kalispell area resident Philip Klevmoen was calling from East Texas to let me know about a news story he was involved in down there in the little town of Hemphill. Philip is the gentle giant who is responsible for spreading the word of God in the form of the Ten Commandments [Snip] Some people don’t like Philip — or at least they don’t like his message. So it’s not unusual for Philip to hear from people who want him to tear down his billboards, or threaten to do so themselves.

The campaign to marginalize conservatives and their traditional values has many facets.Last week, we talked about the efforts in academia to restrict access to people whose beliefs are not in tune with modern liberalism, but that is just one small component of an ongoing multi-front war.Today, let’s focus on climate change and the effort by the left to lull you into peaceful acquiescence of a world view that will allow “people smarter than you” to make massive changes in our economy in order to protect you from an impending crisis. Facebook’s News Feed—the main list of status updates, messages, and photos you see when you open Facebook on your computer or phone—is not a perfect mirror of the world. But few users expect that Facebook would change their News Feed in order to manipulate their emotional state. We now know that’s exactly what happened two years ago. For one week in January 2012, data scientists skewed what almost 700,000 Facebook users saw when they logged into its service. Some people were shown content with a preponderance of happy and positive words; some were shown content analyzed as sadder than average.

Here, in another exclusive excerpt, Klein describes how Bill’s health is a preoccupation of the Clintons. A pair of black, armor-plated SUVs swung into a suburban cul-de-sac and crunched to a stop in the driveway of the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua, New York. Only 14% of Republicans, 23% of independents, and 27% of Democrats favor increased immigration. This included 50% of GOP voters, 43% of independents, and 32% of Democrats. The percentage of those preferring to decrease immigration has jumped from 35% in 2012 and 2013 to 41% in 2014. What transpired in the Mississippi Senate run-off is a red line for many conservatives across the country, because the Republican Party establishment essentially took a civil war and escalated it to a war for independence. It’s one thing to oppose your base in a primary. It’s entirely another to despicably play the race card against your base, and bolster the legitimacy of the propaganda of our race-baiting opponents on the Left. But that’s exactly what the Kamikaze pilots running the GOP did. As a result, Chris McDaniel won Republican voters handily on Tuesday, but still lost the run-off statewide thanks
