EMP Attack On Power Grid
Could Kill 9-In-10

Investor´s Business Daily, by Staff

Original Article

Vulnerability: Expert testimony before Congress on Thursday warned that an electromagnetic pulse attack on our power grid and electronic infrastructure could leave most Americans dead and the U.S. in another century. That dire warning came from Peter Vincent Pry, a member of the Congressional EMP Commission and executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security. He testified in front of the House Homeland Security Committee´s Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies that an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) event could wipe out 90% of America´s population.

Comments:
Hardening our vital satellites (on which all of our lives depend) against destruction by nuclear bomb pulse or solar storm is the single most important thing our government could do to protect our lives and our civilization. Not to do it immediately is a suicidal act of omission. (Continued below)

The Administration´s fiddle-flatulent hardydardy vis-à-vis murderous states like Iran and North Korea, both of which are close to being capable of frying all our space hardware, is worthy of tossing the lot of them out of Washington.

At Obama´s behest NASA is now officially--and shamefully--a Muslim outreach agency as we farm our outer space work off to the kindly offices of Vladimir Putler. Instead, we should be installing Faraday shields (only two billion dollars worth: chump change) around all of our satellites now. I mean rat now, before Little Eun or Ayatollah Hominy fires a low yield nuke into space above Chicago and permanently puts out our lights and snuffs out our lives.

Protecting our satellites is strategic job #1. There is not a moment to waste. Everything else can wait. If Obama won´t do it with our own rockets and astronauts, he should be told to take a hike back to Honolulu today. Why worry about enemies when we´ve got Obama?

This is a threat to all microelectronic devices. Modern cars have them and would be crippled. Computers, tablets everything needs to be in a faraday cage or it becomes a paperweight. We have become very dependent on these devices and we have put them everywhere! There is no need to make up phoney problems like globull warming. We are vulnerable to some very real problems.

When the Iranian/North Korean/Pakistani EMP bomb goes off over NYC or DC, the only people that will not be wiped out or even notice are the Amish. The rest of us will be back in the 1800s.

Just think; no phones, no electricity, no running water, no TV no Internet, no working automobiles, (except pre 1950s types), no air-conditioning, no refrigerators or freezers, no power for the respirators or incubators in our dark hospitals.

Ladies and gentlemen of Lucianne; no more Lucianne.com, no more Drudgereport.com, no more anything that runs on ones and zero. We would be totally screwed.

Have a wonderful Mother´s Day tomorrow.

It will be worse than being back in the 1800s: That was an ordered, progressing, society - with coherent paper records, food that was grown and produced locally where it was consumed and not dependent on refrigeration, potable water that did not require electrical transport/pumping, etc. Read the last chapter of the book I.T. WARS for some very sobering perspective, and how we should be hardening key infrastructure to make it EMP-proof (after all, even a solar flare can deliver EMP - one is only a matter of time). The book is on Amazon - read that last chapter - it´s good, and eye-opening.

In discussions I´ve had with fellow conservatives, it´s been my strong opinion that an EMP attack or mega solar flare is the most likely doomsday scenario. Besides the effects listed above (essentially no electronic anything works anymore), the GIBS will be rioting in short order, taking anything that is yours. All those millions of guns and billions of bullets owned by private citizens and 3-letter gov agencies will be getting a lot of use.

It is a really ugly, but very likely situation that will last for years.

As another poster said: "Have a nice Mother´s Day!"

#8 has absolutely got the correct attitude. This whole thing will be used as justification for having armed guards imbedded in our local communities around every ´hardened´ electric substation. We will be restricted just a little more, won´t be allowed to go near these once-private electric grid facilities and the government will have yet one more excuse to build upon the Federal bureaucracy to build up that ´civilian national security force´ (a.k.a. the Administration enforcement and intimidation police) that Obama spoke of needing when he was campaigning.

The rest of the world is also vulnerable. I think US priority should be hardening our electric grid, plus developing a constellation of defensive satellites that are capable of laser blasting anything out of the sky over the US airspace.

#14. It´s not "what you´re made of." An EMP is a very real threat given the number of unaccounted for nukes floating around the world. All it would take is one set off above the central US to virtually wipe us out. And this is not simply an Obama panic move, as a matter of fact, he doesn´t seem concerned. Newt is!

Sorry! I hit "enter" expecting to go past entering my password and it posted a null.

On the question of Faraday Cages I do not have a sense of how thick the metal needs to be. I have a desktop computer in a metal case--if I ground the case how much protection does it buy? Laptops, being encased in plastic, are clearly vulnerable but I could keep my old backup laptop in my steel filing cabinet.

If I cover the walls of my study with aluminum foil (covered with wallpaper to hide it) does that create a good place to leave my cell phone and my tablet?

Obviously I cannot protect the grid nor the internet myself--but if I protect my garage I may be able to have a car that survives the EMP attack if it happens when I am at home.

Just musing...

Such a toll might please those who worship Gaia. It would hurt the most urbanized places the worst. And from huge cities hungry hordes might ravage nearby rural areas.

Alaska might be a place to be.

Or Hawaii. With abundant sunshine, rain, and seeds you can grow a lot of veggies fast. Green Acres is the place to be.

Someone with a scientific background enlighten me if I´m wrong, but I don´t believe an electromagnetic pulse in outer space that fries our satellites would also fry the delicate electronics in our earthly computers and hand-held electronic devices. It´s just that those devices wouldn´t have anything to connect to, and would be useless.

The "so what" attitude of #1 and #14 is troubling. With all satellites kaput we´d have nothing for transportation, clean water, electronic communications, medicine, food, etc. The only survivors would be those who lived off the grid with abundant fresh water, food, and plenty of firepower to protect against those who would kill them to steal a bite or a sip. As I said before, we simply must protect the delicate electronic underpinning of our world. It´s floating in outer space. Whatever it will take to protect our satellites we must do. It really is that important.

Even pre-1950 cars won´t be able to get gas at stations. All transportation of goods will cease.

Anyone on life-needed medication will die.

Gas generators will only run for a few days.

The good news: there won´t be any obese people after 90 days.

Seriously, an EMP attack caused by 1 or 2 nuclear explosions over the USA, or an asteroid hitting the earth, are the two WORST CASE scenarios we as a civilization face today.

On July 9,1962, before we had a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty, the USA detonated a 1.45 megaton nuke about 750 miles south of the Hawaiian Islands at an altitude of about 250 miles. This is way before computers and wifi; every radio station and TV station, plus all communications in Hawaii were shut down for over eight hours.

For more information, Google or Bing "Starfish Prime". Be careful, it could cause nightmares.

#20, our favorite emergency supplies place did a piece on Faraday cages in February. Good suggestions include the use of old microwave ovens (ask your local thrift store to let you have the broken ones they can´t sell) and metal garbage cans. Apparently, it´s not just a matter of storing your electronics inside, you have to make sure your items don´t touch the metal of the cage. Cardboard and cardboard boxes will suffice. See:

http://beprepared.com/blog/search/faraday/

It just so happens that a couple of years ago we had the hot water heater moved to the garage to give us a small pantry. Because two of the walls faced outside walls and, thus, were a little more vulnerable to heat and cold, I lined them with radiant heat barrier (simplistically, bubble wrap sandwiched between two layers of foil) and included the ceiling too. I keep thinking I should empty that pantry, add a bit more barrier, and use it as a Faraday cage for storing some things. I´m thinking suitably-sized shelves and collapsible cardboard file boxes with lids would handle a lot of stuff to be stored.

In addition, there´s a funny and useful article at:

http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/building-a-faraday-cage/

Good info and easy way to test your FC (but the guy doesn´t talk about shielding items in the cage with cardboard :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0ggWv_Gz4s

And, finally, my favorite, this is the first Faraday cage article I read, ages ago--with lots of other helpful info too.

http://www.endtimesreport.com/faraday_cages.html

I made three radiant heat barrier-covered cardboard cages almost immediately--they house the laptops beautifully.

Charlie Haden, who died on Friday at age 76, was one of the most revered and influential acoustic jazz bassists of his generation, largely because he was incapable of being dull. Rooted in folk and country music, Haden combined earthy simplicity with an engaging storytelling style that inspired and propelled the music of dozens of artists, from saxophonist Ornette Coleman and pianist Keith Jarrett to drummer Ginger Baker and singer Norah Jones. His conversational approach to improvisation forged a new model for post-1960 jazz bassists, resulting in four Grammys.

US conventional units provided the “top cover” for the intel guys who went out to look for the enemy. Now ISIS is playing the same number on

Why Israel will soon be the only state able to govern Judea and Samaria, and the only military force capable of securing its borders. A one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is upon us. It won’t arrive by Naftali Bennett’s proposal to annex the West Bank’s Area C, or through the efforts of BDS campaigners and Jewish Voice for Peace to alter the Jewish state. But it will happen, sooner rather than later, as the states on Israel’s borders disintegrate and other regional players annex whatever they can. As that happens, Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria is becoming inevitable.

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
