Why Lois Lerner Should
Be Granted Immunity

National Review Online, by Andrew C. McCarthy

In this week’s episode of the Capitol Hill soap opera, Lois Lerner, the apparatchik at the center of the IRS jihad against conservative groups, was at long, long last held in contempt of Congress. Amid the farce, the House’s IRS probe is floundering. Ironically, this happens just as the chamber’s separate probe of the Benghazi massacre has been given a chance to succeed. That is because House speaker John Boehner, after over a year of delay, has finally agreed to appoint a “select committee” to investigate Benghazi. Congress has no constitutional authority to enforce the laws it writes, a power

There will never be a select committee appointed to investigate the IRS abuses because it is so harshly partisan. Lerner will ´´walk´´ because she is just the ´´front man.´´

As to Benghazi, John Boehner isn´t fooling anyone; he appointed a Select Committee until after the mid-term elections. I´ve got ten dollars riding on that bet.

NO.
The average citizen has a fear of the IRS, even though they follow the rules and do the right thing. That this evil agency would use its power to intimidate people, affect their fund raising, which in turn affected the last election is offensive. PUNISH her, please.

I agreed with #2 when I started reading this article, but Mr McCarthy says, if she lies or misrepresents the facts she can be prosecuted even after Obama levels office.
And he said the penalties are worse than they would be for her IRS misdeeds.
She seems like a chronic liar to me. I think she would go against her character to not tell a lie, so she may end up in jail and would have the sword of justice hanging heavy over her head for a long time.
I think Mr McCarthy is right.

I doubt anyone will be held accountable in either investigation.

This investigation has nowhere to go, all instructions from "Higher Ups" were relayed in public, obama during the state of the union, various congressmen speaking publicly about various organizations. The only possible smoking gun is the fact that lois lerner worked for the FEC and was a known partisan hack. Who engineered her move to the IRS and put her in this position? Find that person and give him immunity.

Go back to square-one: some of the targeted individuals had hired lawyers and were suing when Lerner stood up in a meeting and apologized --and had the apology taped and released to the public.

Who didn´t know at that instant that Lois Lerner should have been brought in, sat down and threatened to within an inch of her life, then offered immunity.

We could have had this entire year-long drag out over and done with if someone had nailed her to the wall at that instant. She´s a cog in the wheel.

I don´t know if immunity would do any good now, but it might be worth a try. She had over 100 visits to the Spite House, as did the director of the IRS, and they weren´t there talking about 0bamaCare. They were there to talk about taking away freedom of speech from Americans. They were breaking the law.

As I see it, the Committee has two choices - Carry on with the questioning and have Lerner take the Fifth time after time before sending her on her way; or it can do the same and lock her up for her contempt. The Capitol Police has some comfy cells. The idea of looking bars could be sufficiently jarring. Lerner is a bureaucrat, and bureaucrats like to be left faceless and out of the papers, and certainly not jailed.

A serious crime was committed here when multiple "Tea Party" or "Patriot" themed political action groups were denied the right to organize, raise money, and participate in the 2012 elections. Had these groups been allowed to have their say, election results might have flipped against Obama. Lois Lerner is, as another has said, just a bureaucrat, a contemptible Democrat flunky, who undoubtedly was operating on orders from superiors.

And yes, if she gets immunity and lies, she´ll be going to prison. It is very important to suss out the real bad actors in this tragicomedy, and to make them pay. Lerner is, I believe, protecting both Hillary! and Obama. If giving her immunity opens a byway to the top criminals in this Administration, let ´er rip.

You really think anything is going to be done?

What will happen is this will continued to be strung out and nuanced so much that at each step we will be told to let this one pass so we can get someone hire up. Then just when it looks like Obama is the guy, we will be told persecuting this any further will be a disaster for the Republican Party.

How many times does one need to see the can being kicked down the road so far that it fades into obscurity before they catch on to how this works out in the end?

The reluctance of Hamas’s “military wing”—a misnomer for the more extreme elements of its extremist leadership—to accept the cease-fire designed by Egypt is, well, logical. Let’s admit it. They do not wish to accept defeat, and the Egyptian terms are a defeat for Hamas. By attacking Israel, what has Hamas wrought? Considerable damage was done to Gaza by Israeli air power, and Gazans will be picking up the pieces for months if not longer. But Hamas proved unable to kill one single Israeli with its hundreds of rockets, and all its special tricks—tunnels, longer-range rockets, a drone—also failed. Nor could

House Republicans are moving quickly to address the growing humanitarian crisis on the southern border, possibly holding votes as soon as next week. As Congress moves closer to the monthlong August recess, the speedy action sends a clear message to Senate Democrats: Take it or leave it. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), incoming Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and a group of top lawmakers working on the border crisis are set to file a bill that very closely mirrors the legislation crafted by Texas lawmakers Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican, and Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar.

Two of the larger social trends of our time — the growth of payday gambling and the legalization of marijuana — have two things in common: They are justified as the expansion of personal liberty, and they serve the interests of an expanding government. The ideological alliance behind these changes is among the strangest in U.S. politics. Libertarians seek to lift governmental restraints on consensual acts. State governments seek sources of revenue without the political inconvenience of requesting broad tax increases. Both find common ground in encouraging and exploiting the weaknesses and addictions of citizens. (And business interests and their lobbyists,
