Paul Diverges From
His Party Over Voter ID

New York Times, by Jeremy W. Peters

Memphis - Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky broke Friday with fellow Republicans who have pushed for stricter voting laws as a way to crack down on fraud at the polls, saying that the focus on such measures alienates and insults African-Americans and hurts the party. “Everybody’s gone completely crazy on this voter ID thing,” Mr. Paul said in an interview. “I think it’s wrong for Republicans to go too crazy on this issue because it’s offending people.” (Snip) Speaking here in a mostly black and Democratic city with its own painful history of racism, Mr. Paul said that much of the debate over voting rights had been swept up in the

Comments:
When Rand Paul says something as stupid as this now, you just got to wonder which side of the aisle he really is on. Next he´ll be seen praying with illegals already on "this" side of the border and demanding reparations for blacks.

Well, he´s completely blown himself out of the water as far as I am concerned. My angry 24 year old just mentioned this and I had to check it out. Seems Rand has turned both myself and my son off with this one.

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines." -- R.W.Emerson

Paul frequently is right-on-the-money when it comes to economics and politics, and then out of the blue, like his father, will sacrifice reason and experience to ideology.

Why is requiring ID inherently racist? No one ever claimed it is simply minorities who commit voter fraud, just Dems, white, brown, black, who cares. Fraud is fraud. ID can rein it in, a little. What the heck, Rand? You´ve lost me.

Offensive to blacks? Is there anything that doesn´t offend blacks? Either we find a way to make sure it´s one man one vote or we turn the country over to the minorities right now.

Paul´s lost my vote, as has Rubio. Closet liberals who haven´t blossomed into full-fledged RINO´s yet.

Senator Rand Paul just lost a previously avid fan. Me.

Anyone who even remotely connects Photo ID Cards with racism is either severely paranoid or just a disturber, hellbent on fomenting a preposterously cooked-up issue.

And as long as I’m unloading… let’s do away with the prissy word ”undocumented” when what we really mean to say is the burly word ”illegal!”

And then he said this, too:

FTA: "The bigger issue actually is whether you get to vote if you have a felony conviction. There’s 180,000 people in Kentucky who can’t vote. And I don’t know the racial breakdown, but it’s probably more black than white because they’re convicted felons. And I’m for getting their right to vote back, which is a much bigger deal than showing your driver’s license.”

He´s done in my mind. I had read a headline earlier, without knowing the substance, about the voter ID being an insult to minorities. I assumed he was saying it was racist to imply that minorities are too stupid and pathetic to get an ID. But NO, he´s jumping right in with the dems.

I never trusted the guy, this really seals it. And he can´t walk it back, never. Vote fraud scares me more than almost anything, without it there would be no Franken, no Obamacare, likely no Obama, certainly not his second term.

The US has pandered to countries all over this world with enormous amounts of foreign aid. How many UN votes has that bought us?

Paul, Rubio, Ryan take heed. The Republican cahdidate in 2016 will get there with the support of grassroots Americans who love their country and want it back. Appeal to them...just like Ted Cruz is doing.

He is just trying to scrounge up a few more votes. He may not realize it but without a level of discipline in the voter register and actual voting processes Republicans like Rand Paul would have little or no chance to get elected. The liberal Democrats are well on their way to having their way through implementing a policy were the popular vote winner takes future Presidential elections, and turning the well over ten million person illegal alien population group into new Democrat voters to ensure that the Democrats will always win the popular vote.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel quietly notified Congress last week that the military is set to transfer six Guantanamo Bay prisoners to Uruguay as soon as next month, The New York Times revealed Wednesday. The deal has been waiting for Mr. Hagel’s approval since March, but stalled after the Obama administration received a wave of backlash for releasing five Taliban detainees to Qatar in exchange for the release Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. The administration did not give Congress 30-days notice in that deal, but argued it was still legal because any delay could have risked Sgt. Bergdahl’s life. A federal judge in Southern California ruled Wednesday that California’s death penalty was unconstitutional. The “dysfunctional administration of California’s death penalty system,” wrote Judge Cormac J. The delays, the judge wrote, means that sentences are carried out against only “a trivial few of those sentenced to death.” In essence, he wrote, sentences by juries have been transformed to “life in prison, with the remote possibility of death.” In making his ruling, Judge Carney vacated the death sentence of

John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

The headline in the Washington Post on June 4 was clear: Rove-backed American Crossroads won’t get involved in Cochran runoff Said the Post story the day after Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel had defeated six-term Mississippi GOP Senator Thad Cochran in the first round of the state’s GOP primary: American Crossroads, a GOP establishment organization, has decided to shift its political focus almost entirely to the general election and will not be spending money in the likely runoff election to decide the Mississippi Senate nomination that was virtually deadlocked after Tuesday night. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
