Exclusive: So-called ´in-work

Coalition as more people with jobs
are forced to claim housing benefit

Independent [UK], by Andrew Grice

The number of people in work and claiming housing benefit has rocketed by 59 per cent since the Coalition came to power and will cost taxpayers an extra £5 billion by next year’s general election. The figures, compiled by the House of Commons Library, highlight the growth of “in-work poverty” in recent years while wages fell in real terms and rents continued to rise. They also undermine claims by some Conservatives that benefit claimants are “skivers” because many people qualify for state help even though they are in jobs. The number of housing benefit claimants in work rose from 650,561

Comments:
Using welfare benefits to subsidize employers of entry-level workers (cashiers, stockers) has to be one of the greatest government scams ever, in the USA as well as in the UK, it appears. Why is there a CVS, a McDonalds, etc on every corner? One or two Walmarts every few miles, grocery stores everywhere? Easy; hourly wages are kept artificially low through programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, utility subsidies, rent subsidies, you name it, all paid for with borrowed/printed money.

We are in the process of the same thing right now. It will get much worse with amnesty driving wages for blue collar and agricultural (American or legal immigrant) workers into the ground.

Welfare is nothing more than Handouts for Taker Bums.

If it were narrowed down to those that COULD NOT work and had to have help we´d be at less than 5% of the population...so what is it with the other 45-50%? DIM voters, that´s what.

The Washington Redskins have stuck with their name and logo for years, despite ardent and escalating protests by Native American organizations and their supporters. Even the U.S. Patent Office weighed in this year, calling the logo “disparaging.” Now, Franklin Lakes is thinking about changing its own longstanding depiction of a Native American on its letterhead, business cards, vehicles and website. But this time, it’s the Ramapough Lenape Nation — the closest tribe to the borough — that is objecting. “There is a vast difference between using a dignified image that represents the native people and using a logo that shows a caricature

Fort Sill, Okla. - A Republican congresswoman from Tennessee said the U.S. should cut aid to countries that are home to thousands of children who have crossed the border illegally to pay for the cost of caring for them. Rep. Marsha Blackburn made the comments Saturday after touring a temporary shelter at the Fort Sill Army Post near Lawton where more than 1,100 of the children are housed. Republican Rep. Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma also toured the facility. Blackburn said Central American countries that the child immigrants are fleeing should be forced to bear the cost of paying for them

Some beachgoers were appalled and officials fielded complaints after a plane toted the banner Saturday. The banner featured swastikas, a peace sign, a Star of David and a "pro-swastika" message. It was arranged by the International Raelian Movement. On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Millions of Americans this summer will enjoy yet another “staycation”: They just can’t afford to go to the beach or the mountains, even for a week — again. The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
