UN Urged to Tell Catholic Church it
Has No Right to Oppose Abortion

Cybercast News Service, by Terence P. Jeffrey

The Center for Reproductive Rights, a non-governmental organization that advocates for legalized abortion, is urging the United Nations Committee Against Torture to tell the Catholic Church that “the freedom of speech and of religion” do not give the church the right to advocate against abortion. When the committee met in Geneva on Monday for a hearing on the Vatican’s compliance with the Convention Against Torture, Vice Chairperson Felice Gaer, an American, said in her opening statement that laws that ban all abortion—which is the position of the Catholic Church--may violate the convention. She also repeated verbatim some

Huh? The UN is supposed to tell the Roman Catholic Church what its rights are? Who is the mental giant that concocted this fairy tale?

If anything, watching the ineffectual methods used to deal with Putin over Ukraine should make it quite clear that there is no need to fear any reprisal if you refuse to respond to these clowns.

The Catholic Church has a couple billion followers they should be telling the U.N.

This all started when Catholic Democrat Politicians used the line that their voting should not reflect the beliefs of their church i.e. John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and many more.

Misleading headline...

If the UN concern is raped nine-year-olds who become pregnant, their ability to give birth at that young age is definitely questionable, so of course their health is paramont.

Only then, which falls under the only exception for abortion, the physical health of the mother, which I am guessing most against abortion would totally agree...

#7, let me address your thoughts.

1---the 9 year old rape deal...how many kids are raped and result in being pregnant? How many adult women are raped and result in being pregnant. A tiny, tiny amount of women, and a number that has little bearing in the overall discussion of abortion.

2---you think its ok to abort when it´s about the mother´s health right? That sounds so nice on paper. But just like the idiots that claim they´re in pain so they can get pot, these excuses simply get used by anyone who has a doctor willing to sign a document. Can´t sleep, causing illness? Potential blood loss could injure? Psychological issues? Diabetes? All can be made into excuses about the mother´s "health" and be a convenient excuse for abortion.

Again, I would love to see the statistics of how many women would actually suffer physical damage or death of they carried their baby to term...especially with today´s medicine. I would like to know what these special conditions are that suddenly pose such a threat to life should there be a baby coming to term.

Open your eyes.

Just curious ...

I wonder if the Center for Reproductive Rights has ever heard of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

Specifically Article II

Article 2.

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

#8 - Very nicely done. Life is sacred from the womb to the tomb, and the circumstances of conception have no bearing on the fact that a new life has been created. A life with a right to life.

Women who have suffered rape deserve our utmost efforts to ensure proper mental health and pastoral care, as well as attending to their physical needs. I have read testimonies of many rape victims who describe their abortions as "being raped again." I saw a moving interview during EWTN´s broadcast of the March for Life this past January of a group of young people who were conceived by rape and their very selves was their joyful testimony. Some were adopted, but most were raised by their mothers.

#6 - And we had to read through the entire article until the last three paragraphs to find the eloquent response from The Catholic Association.

Maybe the UN ought to be telling Muslims they have no right to ´marry´ 9 year old girls.

Maybe the UN ought to be telling Muslims they have no right to kill a woman who is seen in the company of a man who is not a member of the family. Or who is out of the house without her head covering.

Maybe the UN ought to be telling Muslims they have no right to slaughter other people because they are Jews or Christians.

Maybe if the Center for Reproductive Rights would be more outspoken in denouncing the Islamic militants for their oppression of women (you know, like kidnapping 300 or so young girls in Nigeria) and making a case of that to the whine-and-cheese crowd at the UN, where the most repeated line is, "please pass the sweet and sour shrimp," I might take their protests against the Roman Catholic Church and Christianity in general more seriously.

Otherwise, fuggedabouit.

President Obama’s defiant emphasis on executive action reveals a larger failure looming for his legacy: His inability to work with Republicans means that he’s unlikely to score even one significant legislative achievement over the final years of his presidency. Unless Democrats win back the House and hold onto the Senate in November, a scenario dismissed by most political analysts, Mr. Obama has said goodbye long ago to his biggest accomplishments in Congress. They occurred back in 2010, when Democrats controlled the House and Senate, and Mr. Obama signed into law Obamacare, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform act and a two-year extension
