Tea party faces uphill climb in crowded
Republican Senate primary in Georgia

Washington Post, by Paul Kane

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 5/8/2014 2:22:23 PM

CANTON, Ga. — Nowhere in the United States did the tea party seem better poised for victory than in Georgia’s open Senate race. The Peach State, along with South Carolina, has anchored the movement for the past five years, providing Congress with four of the 25 most conservative voting records. Yet on a recent evening, Rep. Jack Kingston (R) strode across the stage at Cagle’s Family Farm with the surprising air of a front-runner. He is exactly the kind of candidate the tea party movement most reviled: a 22-year member of Congress with a history of doling out federal dollars.

Comments:
This race worries me. I hope we can hold on to it.

Kingston will likely hold on.

Laura Ingraham detailed the problem the other night. The myriad Tea Parties need to coalesce and endorse a single candidate.

She stopped short of saying it, but of course I will: they need to forget 501(c)(4) and coalesce - along with the Libertarians, Constitutionalists, and others - into a formal political party. Perhaps this year´s primary results will prove the point.

Kingston´s my Rep. and I think he´s done a pretty good job. But he´s falling behind, and I don´t know who is more likely to defeat Michelle Nunn. And it´s that person I want to vote for. Nunn has a lot of nostalgia and name recognition in her favor, and she´s going to get the women´s vote, unless she is up against Karen Handle. So many nuances in this voting business, other than just voting your conscience.

I think Nunn is trying to run as a "conservative Democrat", like her daddy used to be. I don´t doubt for a minute, though, that she would vote with the "progressives" if ordered to. JMHO.

Every primary race that the Tea Party is in is an uphill battle. The Tea Party candidate is battling the Republican Party machine fueled by Big Business and Big Lobbyist money.

I would not be surprised to learn in the future that the Republican Establishment funded through back door channels multiple candidates claiming to be Tea Party types.

And should one of them miraculously find themselves ahead in the primary, the self destruct button is always on hand.

Got Tea?

Nunn is running ads that give the impression that she is a conservative. She is not. Just another lib who will dance to the Progs´ music if she were to be elected.

I like Perdue and will vote for him in the primary. If Kingston wins I will certainly vote for him. Better him than a liberal Democrat any day. Half a loaf better than none. I don´t like the establishment either but, geez, I will always at least vote for the lesser evil.

If you sit home and don´t vote you are helping the destroy the US.

The TEA Party is suffering because the IRS is harassing them and their supporters and the GOP is standing on the sidelines, letting it happen.

If GOP had been targeted, guess who would be screaming loudest?

Yes, looks like we are stuck voting for establishment incumbent again. Just keep in mind - every time the Washington establishment hears us say "oh well, whatever, any R is better than voting for the Democrat" they grin from ear-to-ear inside. Always remember what John McCain´s mother let slip from her lips. The establishment is dumb when it comes to fighting Democrats but pretty smart the way they have trained conservatives. Trained too many to give up and pretend conservatives have a voice in the party.

#12, sorry I cannot provide Roberta McCain´s exact quote. I googled and there is no sign of her controversial comment now. Remember, after McCain was declared our party´s nominee, she was asked by MSM about conservative Republicans not liking her son. The elder Mrs. McCain´s response was a rather unkind remark of that´s too bad, they have no choice, do they..
It was something to that effect and received much press attention. Mom was out of sight after that, I think.

Please tell me how easy it would be to coalesce behind one conservative candidate. I am assuming each person running thinks he/she is best for the job, so why would they step back and let another one have it?

As for #2, I am sure Nunn will be a better choice than any of the Republicans. For myself, I believe all of the Dem women turn into Elizabeth Warren once they´re in office.

#11, David Perdue is establishment in that he is the first cousin of Sonny Perdue, who was governor for 8 years. He has said he has no problem with common core. I also don´t care for his ads - childish while accusing others of being childish - and with no substance, just cutesey.

No, Karen Handel would not beat Michelle Nunn. Doesn´t help that she sounds like a Yankee.

Broun is scary, and a fool.

Gingrey´s ads don´t help him, and Kingston´s are excellent.

I will probably vote for the relatively conservative Gingrey in the primary though it could be Kingston or Perdue has the best chance against Nunn.

There are something like 8 candidates in the race. Personally I´m torn between Kingston, Perdue and Handle. And frankly, haven´t really been able to determine what sets them apart other than the obvious. Some of them are just bat quana nuts. My local congressional primary is ever bit as bad.

I´m stuck trying to weed out the looney toons candidates, the candidates that make attacking them easy and settling for the candidates with the "cleaner and more electable" candidate.

My guess is that the runoff will have Purdue against either Gingrey or Kingston. I find it hard to think that Handel will gain a lot of support, even though some polls say she´s doing well. It probably only takes 25 to 30 percent of the vote to make it into the runoff, and many people have not made up their mind. Getting good polling data is probably quite challenging.

Federal employees, like all Americans, are entitled to hold passionate political beliefs. Most executive branch federal employees, however, may not engage in certain political activities, thanks to an anti-conflict of interest principle enshrined in a federal law called the Hatch Act. To wit, President Bush requested the resignation of his GSA administrator in 2008 after the US Office of Special Counsel determined she had violated federal law by participating in a video conference with Karl Rove and sending out partisan letters. Seventeen percent of people in the United States say immigration is the nation’s top problem, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday. That´s up from 5 percent in June, and is the highest number Gallup has registered for immigration since 2006, when 15 percent said it was the nation´s most pressing problem. Gallup’s new survey found immigration is virtually tied with “dissatisfaction with government” as the nation´s top problem. The economy and unemployment rank below immigration and “dissatisfaction with government" as top problems, the new poll found. Only 8 percent now rate healthcare as the top problem, down from 16 percent in January, when

How would you feel if someone promised to give you a car, and then reneged on that pledge? That’s how all Americans should feel when it comes to ObamaCare -- because Barack Obama’s failed and discredited campaign promise to lower health insurance premiums has cost the average American family an amount equal to the price of many new cars. During his 2008 campaign, one of then-Senator Obama’s most audacious promises was that his health plan would reduce premiums by $2,500 for the average family. His repeatedly made his pledge on videotape; you can view those promises here. But health insurance premiums
