NFL Draft: It Has to Be Johnny Football
Wall Street Journal, by Jason Gay

Original Article

With my nonexistent pick in the 2014 NFL draft, I am taking Johnny Manziel, quarterback, Texas A&M. I know it´s not the cautious move, but caution is for escalators and cutting bagels at 6 a.m. I´ve heard the hesitations and qualifiers and skepticism and all the reasons why Johnny Manziel is not a prototypical NFL guy. I´m not dissuaded. I´m not feeling prototypical. I´m taking Johnny Football. Here is Manziel late Wednesday morning, standing in a sunny athletic field in downtown Manhattan, surrounded by cameras and digital recorders, ears of the world waiting, asked if teams that pass on him will

Houston is the most cursed football city in the country.

Anyone remember the Oilers loosing to the biggest playoff comeback in history not that long ago?

If they take Johnny Football, he will be a huge bust. If they don´t take him, he will be a huge success somewhere else. It´s the Houston curse.

I truly hope I´m wrong, being a proud son of Texas. But Houston football has broken my heart a few dozen times too many for me to take them very seriously or expect them to do the smart thing (whatever that is) this time.

If Manziel doesn´t learn to play "drop back pocket passing" he won´t last two years. He needs to talk to Doug Flutie....

He´ll get one of two people fired. Whoever picks him or whoever doesn´t. QB is at best a Crap Shoot in the draft. I went to all A&M games last year save LSU. It was amazing to watch this kid play. Yes, it´s College but it was always a great afternoon.

If you want to get a sense of the heart of this kid watch:

First he breaks a block and then makes two tackles.

I will watch him on NFL Sunday Ticket with
a lot of others.

What made him exciting in college is what makes him risky in the NFL. He is wreckless and the NFL speed may negate his exciting playmaking. Good luck to him, regardless. Draft Clowney and a QB will be available in the 2nd round.

I hope he´s the #1 draft pick.

#3, great play and great heart, no doubt.
Tim Tebow had everything going for himself, too. But where is he now?

As stated before, if Manziel can´t learn - quickly - to become an NFL QB (´drop back´) then he´ll be gone by 2017. Just ask Tebow.

First, #1, don´t talk to me about heartbreak, I´m a life-long Browns fan.

Three slogans

Rebuilidng since 1965
Somebody stole my team, and then won the Super Bowl. Twice!!
And, dammit, if the Saints can do it, the Browns can do it.

Secondly, I predict Johnny so-called Fooball will wash out or flame out in the pros. He´s a prima-donna, and not nearly as tough as he thinks he is.

Sarah Palin on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of Republicans calling for the impeachment of President Obama, writing in a Breitbart op-ed that the influx of young illegal immigrants over the southern border "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´no mas.´ " Mixed/careless metaphors aside, this is nothing but bad news for Republicans — especially four months until the 2014 election. Palin is hardly the first GOP politician to raise the issue of impeachment over the past couple years. Others include Sens. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Reps. WASHINGTON -- Tackling what he has called a humanitarian crisis, President Barack Obama on Tuesday asked Congress for $3.7 billion to cope with a tide of minors from Central America who are illegally crossing the U.S. southern border, straining immigration resources and causing a political firestorm in Washington. The White House says the money would help increase the detention, care and transportation of unaccompanied children, help speed the removal of adults with children by increasing the capacity of immigration courts, and would increase prosecution of smuggling networks. The money would also increase surveillance at the U.S. border and help Central American

Democrat Bruce Braley, who was caught on tape in January making a remark that seemed to besmirch Iowa farmers, has been caught on tape seemingly claiming to be one. "We´re farmers," a parade attendee appears to tells Braley, a U.S. Senate candidate, during the Fourth of July parade in Iowa Falls last weekend. The quest to save the ISEE-3—a long-lost NASA probe launched in the disco era and abandoned in the dot-com boom—might just succeed. Late last week, the amateur scientists and engineers working to salvage the probe hit a major milestone: They coaxed the craft into firing its rotational thrusters. The achievement is important for many reasons. While the amateur team trying to reboot the ISEE-3 has been in radio contact with the probe for more than a month, this is the first time it has successfully commanded moving parts onboard. It’s important for technical reasons. The ISEE-3 is “spin-stabilized,” meaning it

It´s still a little unclear exactly how much money President Obama will request to deal with the crisis of thousands of families and unaccompanied children crossing the border into the United States illegally. But there are indications the vast majority of the funding will go to caring for the illegal immigrants who are already here -- feeding, housing, and transporting them to new American homes -- while a far smaller amount will go to sending some of those immigrants back to their home countries and preventing future immigrants from crossing into the U.S. illegally. And like most bubbles, it has more to do with wish fulfillment than reality. As Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff observed in their classic This Time Is Different, “there are usually remarkable similarities of past experience” linking manias that, in retrospect, seem so obviously unhinged. It’s something like Vietnam, all over again. As the rebels of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria — usually shortened to ISIS — close in on the Iraqi capital, the parallels to the fall of Saigon are hard to miss. Forty-one years ago, the last U.S. combat troops had withdrawn from South Vietnam, and within a month, the North Vietnamese Army, complete with heavy armor, began its final offensive. The last chapter of the war that took 58,000 American lives was the humiliating scene of U.S. Marine helicopters plucking American diplomats from the roof of the U.S. Embassy on April

The bad news first. The People´s Republic of China now believes it can successfully prevent the United States from intervening in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan or some other military assault by Beijing. Now the good news. China is wrong — and for one major reason. It apparently disregards the decisive power of America´s nuclear-powered submarines. Moreover, for economic and demographic reasons Beijing has a narrow historical window in which to use its military to alter the world´s power structure. If China doesn´t make a major military move in the next couple decades, it probably never will. The U.S. Navy´s

Green groups, alone with Washington state tribes, have sued the Environmental Protection Agency to push for increased fish consumption rates -- currently set at six-and-a-half grams a day. Gone unchecked, Obama says, that line of thinking could become a self-fulfilling prophecy with dire long-term ramifications. If compromise-minded Americans get so frustrated they just tune out, lawmakers will feel even less pressure to work together for the good of the country. With a mix of alarm and dismay, Obama has started musing about the dangers of cynicism in nearly every major public appearance. The cautionary note

President Obama evidently has decided not to put a human face on the crisis unfolding at the U.S. southern border—not even his own. The White House said over and over again Monday that Obama will not travel to the border with Mexico despite flying to Texas this week to raise money for Democratic candidates there.
