´The slime probing the slime´: House

prosecution to Eric Holder – whom it

Daily Mail [UK], by David Martosko

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday evening to find Lois Lerner in Contempt of Congress. The 231-187 vote fell largely along party lines, with six Democrats joining every Republican to give the former IRS official a formal thumbs-down. The result will place Lerner´s case in the hands of Attorney General Eric Holder, who was himself found in criminal contempt in 2012 because he resisted subpoenas for documents in the Operation Fast and Furious firearms scandal. [Snip] ´But if Holder ever opens the Lerner file more than once, I´ll strip naked on the National Mall and sing the president´s favorite Al

I ain´t so good at math but I can count to 2: Issa + Gowdy.

That leaves 231 GOP House members doing naff all on or off the record to push back. It´s great that a GOP staffer pointed out the hand-holding between DOJ and IRS but why aren´t Congressmen doing the same, loudly and repeatedly?

PS - I note that Thailand just removed its Prime Minister for abuse of power.

I hope there is not a ´Statute of Limitations´ on these contempt charges. I would love to see a new conservative constitutional loving Attorney General putting both of them into jail and ending their government retirement benefits.

White House accidentally blows the

The U.S. government accidentally named the top spy in Afghanistan on a memo given to reporters accompanying President Barack Obama on a surprise visit Sunday to Kabul. The memorandum included an individual named as ‘Chief of Station,’ the title given to the top CIA officer in a given country. It was immediately retracted, and a new memo was issued without the officer’s name. [Snip] U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan James B. Cunningham and 14 other were also named on the memo, including several military officials, according to the Post. They were all identified as having being included in a meeting with

We WILL get vote on EU:

The “political earthquake” wrought by Nigel Farage’s party has thrust the issue to the top of the political agenda. A referendum vote will now be guaranteed whoever wins the general election next year. David Cameron is to throw his weight behind a proposed law that states a ballot on Britain’s membership must be held by 2017. He wants to confront the Liberal Democrats and Labour with a dilemma. They will have to choose whether to cave in and agree to the referendum or enrage voters by blocking the move. Mr Cameron’s ploy is a boost for the Daily Express crusade for an in-out referendum on Europe.

Ukip storms European elections

The UK Independence Party has won a national election for the first time, taking the most votes and seats in the European Parliament elections according to sources in all of Britain´s main political parties. The Ukip victory, which came as anti-establishment parties advanced across the European Union, represents the biggest shock to the British political system in a generation. Even before the final results were announced, sources in Ukip and the three older political parties were all predicting a historic victory for Nigel Farage’s party, which was founded in 1993 and does not have a single MP or council leader.

Nigel Farage tonight claimed victory in the European elections, becoming the first 'insurgent party' to top a national vote. With results still being declared, Mr Farage broke cover to predict he will humiliate the Westminster parties, pushing Labour and the Tories into second and third. Support for Ukip has surged by more than 12 per cent, outstripping a more modest boost in votes for Labour, while the Lib Dems face wipeout, with some calling for Nick Clegg to resign. Mr Farage said: 'Ukip is going to win this election and yes that will be an earthquake because never before in the history of British politics has a party that will be seen to be an insurgent

France’s far-Right Front National was on course for an historic victory in European elections on Sunday night, coming top in a national election for the first time in its 42-year history in a score it said represented a “massive rejection” of the EU. Early exit polls placed the anti-European, anti-immigrant party first with 25 percent of the vote – a result that was even better than expected. The result put the FN well ahead of the opposition centre-Right UMP party, on 20.6 percent, which lost nine percentage points compared to 2009. The ruling Socialists clinched a paltry 14.1 percent,

While voting ended in Britain on Thursday at 10pm, it is only tonight after the polls close in the democratically significant city of Athens that results can start being announced across Europe. Ballot boxes have been locked away for days, and will be resurrected in just a few hours time in order to be counted, ready for the media circus to start. For Britain´s political establishment, today is D-Day. Nigel Farage´s eurosceptic, UK Independence Party (UKIP) has been promising an "earthquake" in British politics. If they deliver it, garnering around 30 percent of the vote and topping the polls, then

President Barack Obama secretly slipped into Afghanistan under the cover of darkness Sunday for a weekend visit with U.S. troops serving in the closing months of America´s longest war. Air Force One landed at Bagram Air Field, the main U.S. base in Afghanistan, after an overnight flight from Washington. Obama was scheduled to spend just a few hours on the base and had no plans to travel to Kabul, the capital, to meet with Hamid Karzai, the mercurial president who has had a tumultuous relationship with the White House. Obama´s surprise trip comes as the U.S. and NATO withdraw most of their

Prince William may be taking to the skies once more--but this time as an air ambulance pilot. The future king, who is an accomplished pilot, stepped down from the RAF´s search-and-rescue team last year but it is believed he is not keen on taking up royal duties on a full-time basis. The East Anglian Air Ambulance service, located near his country home at Anmer Hall in Sandringham, is the likely destination for Prince William. According the Sunday Times, a royal aide said: "The duke is fully committed to his foundation and charities, but he feels he has not yet got

Politicians will go to increasingly desperate lengths to be regarded as "men of the people". From kissing babies and climbing on soapboxes to appearing in public in carefully chosen casual clothes, they are all supposedly antidotes to allegations that they are out of touch. [Snip] Whether they love him or loathe him, no one can accuse Ukip leader Nigel Farage of suffering from such problems. The 50-year-old former City trader enjoys a pint, puffs away quite openly on a cigarette and isn´t afraid to turn the air blue. When he opens his mouth you get the feeling that he´s genuinely

One unexpected consequence of the local elections is that London has disappeared up its own bottom. Ukip’s failure to do well there has been put down to the capital being, “like, sooo much more, like, progressive than the rest of the country? You know--more tolerant and thoughtful and stuff?” [Snip] But hang on a minute, when did London turn into the model of racial harmony and liberal idealism? The London I live in is not only a place where “you’ll either be mugged or not appreciated” (spot on, Alan Partridge) but also one seething with social tensions.

Everybody is talking about learning political lessons--and then going on to say exactly the same thing they were saying before the Great Earthquake of Election Day 2014. The Tories are promising that they will “learn the lesson” about disenfranchised Conservative voters who now feel that only Nigel Farage speaks for them. [Snip] That means that the precious centre ground of politics, on which all elections are said to be won, has moved. The Westminster establishment, from which the country is so famously alienated, is now seen as uniformly Left-liberal. All the major parties, along with most of their media friends,

The Labour party legitimately claims that it created the National Health Service. [Snip] We are living much longer than Mr Bevan could possibly have imagined back in 1947 and are making greater demands on the NHS. Also, because doctors refuse to be used as border guards, it is difficult to stop foreigners coming here and obtaining treatment from a National Health Service to which they have contributed nothing. Hard-working British taxpayers are rightly furious when their contributions are abused in this way and they demand that it be stopped. ASHINGTON — White House officials have been holding private meetings this week aimed at soothing lawmakers’ concerns over the U.S. posture in Syria, the future of the American military presence in Afghanistan and defense spending. The meetings come as a frustrated White House seeks to push back at criticism of President Barack Obama’s foreign policy. But the White House outreach appeared to be having little effect on some lawmakers’ concerns. Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, described Tuesday night’s White House meeting with chief of staff Denis McDonough and national security adviser Susan

What a society chooses to memorialize says a lot about what it values, which is worth contemplating this weekend as the nation recognizes the sacrifices of military men and women who died in service to their country. (Snip) Warrior culture pervades American society, from the military flyovers at major public events to the video games we play, to the movies and TV shows we watch. They had a dream. For almost a hundred years now, the famed academic-artistic-and-punditry industrial complex has dreamed of a government run by their kind of people (i.e., nature’s noblemen), whose intelligence, wit, and refined sensibilities would bring us a heaven on earth. Their keen intellects would cut through the clutter as mere mortals’ couldn’t. They would lift up the wretched, oppressed by cruel forces. Above all, they would counter the greed of the merchants, the limited views of the business community, and the ignorance of the conformist and dim middle class.

After breaking into an elderly widow’s house twice in a row, two teenagers were killed by an armed occupant, in self-defense. Steven Crider, 17, and Michael Sambrano, 14, were shot in the chest numerous times after breaking in to the widow’s home. Now, the dead thieves’ friends and family are publicly complaining that “it was wrong that they were shot” and that the thieves were just “tryin’ to eat.” Everyone needs to eat, but how many people actually need to steal in order to eat? The number must be extremely small.
