Union leader representing news industry
joins group that shuns news coverage

Washington Examiner, by Sean Higgins

Original Article

Larry Cohen, president of the Communications Workers of America, is a member of the Democracy Alliance, a Democratic donor network that has raised more than $30 million. CWA senior director George Kohl joined the network last year. The group is highly secretive and goes to great efforts to prevent any reporters from covering its activities. At a recent gathering in Chicago, alliance members called security on Politico reporter Kenneth P. Vogel for trying to interview a member. That is pretty ironic because one of the groups that CWA represents is … reporters. Its website boasts that its members include workers

Comments:
Everywhere you look there is corruption!! That vile worm Cohen was a leader in the effort last year to get Harry Reid to amend Senate rules to limit the use of the filibuster. These people are evil! It is stunning to see their tentacles of destruction that are everywhere in this government.

Mainstreet Advocacy’s website brags about it’s goal of Team Spirit and Republican Unity: Our mission is to bring together those who care about this country after decades of hyper-partisanship and dysfunction in Washington. Our goal is unity instead of division, supported by a commitment to governing with core principles. Except that it’s a nearly universally acknowledged fact that the goal of former Republican Congressman Steve LaTourette’s PAC is to elect moderates and take out those pesky Tea Party types who won’t fall in line with the status quo in Washington. Oops. Also, Communists lie. Thomas Piketty’s book, ‘Capital in the Twenty-First Century’, has been the publishing sensation of the year. Its thesis of rising inequality tapped into the zeitgeist and electrified the post-financial crisis public policy debate. High quality global journalism requires investment. What am I missing here? There must be some inside joke or allusion I’m not getting that explains why you’d introduce this slogan during the one week more than any other of his presidency that illustrates what a terrible, disengaged manager he is. It’d be like the RNC rolling out a “Prosperity” bumper sticker the week of the financial crash in 2008. So, obviously, it refers to something else. But … what? How America Treats

A government that fails to secure its borders is guilty of dereliction of duty. A government that fails to care for our men and women on the frontlines is guilty of malpractice. A government that puts the needs of illegal aliens above U.S. veterans for political gain should be prosecuted for criminal neglect bordering on treason. Compare, contrast and weep: In Sacramento, Calif., lawmakers are moving forward with a budget-busting plan to extend government-funded health insurance to at least 1.5 million illegal aliens. In Los Angeles, federal bureaucrats callously canceled an estimated 40,000 diagnostic tests and treatments for American veterans

WASHINGTON — White House officials have been holding private meetings this week aimed at soothing lawmakers´ concerns over the U.S. posture in Syria, the future of the American military presence in Afghanistan and defense spending. The meetings come as a frustrated White House seeks to push back at criticism of President Barack Obama´s foreign policy. But the White House outreach appeared to be having little effect on some lawmakers´ concerns. Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, described Tuesday night´s White House meeting with chief of staff Denis McDonough and national security adviser Susan Rice as

On Thursday, a former adviser to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and the president of a think tank that supports the Senate´s amnesty bill said America needed sweeping amnesty legislation and more immigrants because native-born Americans are not making enough babies. "Like all important policy issues, it comes down to sex," Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who advised McCain during the 2008 campaign, said Thursday at a National Journal event on immigration. "The blunt fact is the native-born population does not have a fertility rate high enough to keep the population growing." His comments on a panel with five others echoed former Florida governor and potential

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has been frustrated by the Tea Party movement that gave him his Speakership after the historic 2010 midterm elections, but he said on Thursday that there was not much of a difference between establishment Republicans and those in the Tea Party. "I´m not going to get into this distinction between the Tea Party and Republicans," Boehner said, according to Talking Points Memo. "It´s a distinction you´re going to have a hard time finding." President Obama´s response to the swirling scandal at the Department of Veterans Affairs has followed a predictable pattern. Halfway into his second term, the president seems to have developed his own crisis-management playbook. Step 1: Avoid getting any skin in the game for as long as possible. Allow Cabinet members to take the heat in headlines and congressional hearings. Step 2: Have White House press secretary Jay Carney repeatedly express confidence in the Cabinet secretary caught up in the controversy. Rinse and repeat for days, weeks or months. Step 3: When public attention reaches a tipping point, have White House officials speak out on

Taxpayers paid more than $5 million to create climate change games, including voicemails from the future warning that “neo-luddites” will kill global warming enthusiasts by 2035. Columbia University’s Climate Center has received $5.7 million from the National Science Foundation for the university’s “PoLAR Climate Change Education Partnership,” to “engage adult learners and inform public understanding and response to climate change.” Based on the theory that games “motivate exploration and learning of complex material,” the school created “Future Coast,” a website that features hundreds of made up voicemails painting a dire picture of the future as a result of climate change. “There’s a lot

HARLEM — For decades, they’ve battled for supremacy atop Harlem’s political order: Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel, the polished committee chairman and power broker, and the Rev. Al Sharpton, the tracksuit-clad bomb-throwing civil rights leader. Now Sharpton, looking svelte and dapper on his daily MSNBC show, may have his chance to finally take out Rangel — at age 83 and in the toughest, almost certainly final, reelection fight of his 43-year congressional career. It’s a sweet turn for Sharpton, who could never quite win acceptance among the established political class here that Rangel led. When Sharpton, 59, ran for mayor and

Since when did it become “extremist” to be pro-life, pro-family, and pro-marriage? On May 10th I wrote an article entitled “Anti-Christian Activists Will Defeat Themselves.” Within days, my thesis was being confirmed. Last week, Martha MacCallum, sitting in for Megyn Kelly on Fox, hosted a heated exchange between Dana Loesch and Democrat strategist Jessica Erlich “about the Benham Brothers being discriminated against for their Christian beliefs by SunTrust Bank, which had announced that they were cutting business ties with the twin brothers.” (Suntrust reversed its decision 24 hours after dropping the Benhams, with apologies.) President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the “disadvantage” of having each state represented equally in the Senate. At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population. “Obviously, the nature of the Senate means that California has the same number of Senate seats as Wyoming.

North Carolina restaurant The Pit was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday. Normally, local crime stories like this wouldn´t merit a Townhall post, but this one is different: The Pit has a "no weapons" sign displayed prominently on its door declaring the restaurant a gun-free zone, and bans patrons from carrying concealed weapons. Authorities said just before 9 p.m. Sunday, three men wearing hoodies entered the restaurant through the back doors with pistols, and forced several staff members to lie on the floor. The bandits assaulted two employees during the crime, but they were not seriously injured. What groups like Everytown for Gun
