Thank God! Professor Smacked Down For
Trying To Ban Thanking God At Graduation
Daily Caller, by Eric Owens    Original Article

An analytic chemistry professor at public, taxpayer-funded East Carolina University (ECU) has failed miserably in his bizarre effort to prevent students from thanking God in personal statements, which will be read during a departmental graduation ceremony on Friday. The professor, Eli Hvastkovs, explicitly banned students from giving any credit to God in an email obtained by Campus Reform. He ordered students to “provide me something written in the third person” in a personal statement that discusses future plans or “thanks someone.” However, Hvastkovs wrote: You can’t thank God. I’m sorry about this — and I don’t want to have to outline the reasons why. “Keep

We recently learned that China is poised to replace the United States as the No. 1 economic power in the world sometime later this year. Our anemic quarterly growth rate of 0.1 percent certainly lends credibility to this speculation. We must seriously question those who say our nation is not in decline. They are adopting the ostrich strategy, sticking their heads in the sand. There is no question that America is the pinnacle nation of the world and is likely to remain in that position for years, given our military strength and the depth and stability of our financial infrastructure. However,

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will conduct focus groups to see whether Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) individuals face discrimination when looking for apartments. The department posted a 30-day notice in the Federal Register on Monday, explaining its intention to interview 60 LGBT potential renters and 15 heterosexual renters, and document their experiences in big cities. “The department is conducting this study as part of a larger effort to study housing discrimination,” the notice said. “As part of that research, the department would like to learn more about the process that people use to search for

This is a Ferrari Dino 246GT built in 1972 and purchased new by a man named Keith Richards. Keith Richards, if you are unaware, is a person who enjoys playing the guitar with his friends in a little band called the Rolling Stones. Now this Dino is coming up for auction, and is actually something you should pay attention to, because there´s no reserve. So, what you get is a Ferrari with some proper rock n´ roll royalty attached to it. Richards – one of the founding members of the Stones, and a man who really could do with an iron

Tokyo-China has drawn up detailed contingency plans for the collapse of the North Korean government, suggesting that Beijing has little faith in the longevity of Kim Jong-un’s regime. Documents drawn up by planners from China’s People’s Liberation Army that were leaked to Japanese media include proposals for detaining key North Korean leaders and the creation of refugee camps on the Chinese side of the frontier in the event of an outbreak of civil unrest in the secretive state. The report calls for stepping up monitoring of China’s 879-mile border with North Korea. Any senior North Korean military or political leaders

If you think this winter was unseasonably long and cold, you’re playing history’s tiniest violin. Instead, with a year without summer, famines on multiples continents, an explosion in the Chinese opium trade, the global scourge of cholera, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, a golden age of Arctic exploration, and modern meteorology on its résumé, that distinction belongs to Tambora and its eruption in 1815 on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. That story, and its portentous lessons on the consequences of global climate disturbances, is told with particular élan and a flair for the dramatic in Gillen D’Arcy Wood’s Tambora: The Eruption That Changed

Obama State Department: ‘We Need Another

Nothing like encouraging the enemy to start another mass terrorist uprising. 1,100 Israelis were killed in the Second Intifada from September 2000 to December 2005. Victims of the December 1, 2001 Zion Square terrorist bombing. The only people who benefitted from this barbarism were the relatives of the two bombers who received President Saddam Hussein grants. The Obama State Department says another intifada may be necessary to force Israel into peace negotiations. Members of Kerry’s State Department team blast Prime Minister Netanyahu and warns Israel of another intifada if a peace plan is not reached with the Fatah-Hamas alliance. The

The White House is far from done with the promised “fundamental transformation” of society. Secret courts issue general warrants enabling the government to listen to every telephone call and read every email. Drones take to the skies to monitor everyone below, and still the administration is not satisfied. President Obama’s transportation reauthorization bill, released last week, would demolish one of the greatest American accomplishments of the 20th century in a way that will create one more opportunity to spy. Since it was begun nearly 60 years ago, the interstate highway system has been a boon to commerce. Anyone with a car

Snooki beats Condi. At least at Rutgers. That’s the message sent by the successful drive by some students and professors to stop Condoleezza Rice from delivering this year’s commencement address. At one point, demonstrators occupied a building. Others carried signs accusing the former secretary of state of being a war criminal. Though Rutgers said it was not rescinding its invitation, Rice opted out. She put it this way in her statement: “As a Professor for 30 years at Stanford University and as former Provost and Chief academic officer, I understand and embrace the purpose of the commencement ceremony and I am simply unwilling

The head of the American Legion called Monday for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki and other top VA officials to resign over a series of scandals that have rocked the agency. Decrying what he described as "poor oversight and failed leadership," the group´s National Commander Dan Dellinger said the problems with the department need to be addressed at the "highest level," starting with new leadership. He said this is the first time the organization has called for such resignations in more than 30 years. Lewinsky, now 40, has penned a tell-all essay for Vanity Fair and snippets from the article shows how now- on the eve of another likely Clinton presidential campaign- was the right time to come forward. ´It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress,´ she said, poking fun at the infamous ´90s attire that she is so closely associated with. ´Sure, my boss took advantage

Emily Letts, a counselor at a New Jersey abortion clinic, decided to film her own abortion and post it on YouTube as a form of positive inspiration to women who are contemplating having the procedure but worry that they might feel guilty afterward. Letts has no such guilt. She recalls the procedure with fondness. She even describes it as “birth-like,” and said it made her feel good, just like giving birth would. Letts, whose job involves encouraging women to have abortions, sees her own abortion as an entirely positive experience, and hopes the video will prove to be both instructional and morally

The news for Democrats, already bad this year, just got worse. Consider this story in the USA Today: A nationwide USA TODAY/Pew Research Center Poll shows the strongest tilt to Republican candidates at this point in a midterm year in at least two decades, including before partisan “waves” in 1994 and 2010 that swept the GOP into power. Though Election Day is six months away — a lifetime in politics — at the moment, Democrats are saddled by angst over the economy, skepticism about the health care law and tepid approval of the president. The specific data point worth focusing on is

Hillary Clinton has mostly steered clear of contentious domestic political issues in recent years, but on Tuesday, she said gun laws need to be reined in. Speaking at a National Council for Behavioral Health conference outside of Washington, Clinton was asked about the role guns play in suicides. While Clinton said she supports Second Amendment rights, she added that there needs to be a proper trade-off between safety and freedom, and that things have swung too far toward the latter. "I think again we´re way out of balance. We´ve got to rein in what has become almost an article of faith that

Just over half the nation wants further investigation into the September 2012 terrorist killings of American diplomats in Benghazi, Libya, in part because an even larger percentage of the country does not believe that President Obama´s team has told the full story about the simmering scandal. Rasmussen Reports revealed in a new poll that 51 percent want the investigation to go forward. The House last week ordered up a special panel to investigate the killings of the U.S. ambassador and several others and how the administration handled the crisis. Nancy Pelosi issued a statement this morning on the soon-to-be-formed House Select Committee to investigate Benghazi. Byron York comments: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is complaining that the new select committee on Benghazi will have more Republican members than Democrats. “If this review is to be fair, it must be truly bipartisan,” Pelosi said in a just-released statement. “The panel should be equally divided between Democrats and Republicans, as is done on the House Ethics Committee.” Is that a reasonable request? Not if precedent is a guide: In 2007, the House created a Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global

He is also wants to see reception of his wife and family, who they said are not keen on him running. Bush has said he would try to make his mind up by the end of the year, but has now become more serious about testing his ideas in public.
