There are plenty of smidgens
in the IRS scandal

Washington Post, by Ed Rogers

Today, the House Rules Committee is considering a resolution recommending that former IRS official Lois Lerner be held in contempt for refusing to answer questions about her role in the IRS targeting of President Obama’s political opponents. It is likely that the resolution will pass, and then it will come to the floor for a full vote in the House. When it does, the vote to hold Lerner in contempt should be bipartisan – if not unanimous. Any Democrats who vote “no” should be labeled as enablers of obstruction of justice. It should be impossible for Democrats to defend a

IMHO Bush´s biggest mistake was to ignore the Clinton scandals after he was elected, thus hillary is the front runner for 2016. I will support the candidate who promises to investigate and prosecute Fast and Furious, IRS, Benghazi, NSA, VA, etc. "Running out the clock" should never again be an option.

ANN ARBOR — The University of Michigan has settled a lawsuit brought by a student libertarian club after the university spent thousands supporting leftist campus groups while denying funding to campus conservative and libertarian clubs. The university agreed to pay the U-M Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) a sum of $5,000 plus attorney fees for denying the student group funding toward an event hosted by anti-affirmative action activist Jennifer Gratz. Gratz spoke about the importance of intellectual diversity at the University last October.

Charles C. Johnson hadn´t covered the Mississippi Senate Republican primary until it was already over. Almost a week after incumbent U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran officially staved off a primary challenge from state Sen. Chris McDaniel — results that were certified this week — Johnson exploded onto the Mississippi scene in a major way. On June 30, Johnson published a story that was viewed in conservative circles as a bombshell — and in mainstream circles as a joke. Johnson, who calls himself an independent journalist and runs a site called GotNews, was told by an African-American, self-proclaimed reverend that he was

Why are racist attacks on black Republicans so underreported by the media? There has been much written about the racial rhetoric that has permeated political discourse since President Obama took office, and the media often highlights the racially inflammatory language used by some of his opponents. But racially charged language targeting black Republicans rarely receives much coverage, further fueling conservative suspicion of the mainstream media. Late last month, Gloreatha Scurry-Smith, a congressional candidate in Florida’s Fifth district, found that one of her campaign signs had been vandalized. Smith says she initially wasn’t surprised that one of her billboards had been defaced, but

An obscure human-trafficking law that passed Congress under the Bush administration with no objection is likely to be changed, much to the chagrin of refugee and immigration advocates. The Obama administration is seeking the ability to offer "voluntary removal" of undocumented children from Central America back to their home countries, which the trafficking law now prohibits. Republicans also are demanding the change as one of the conditions for approving $3.7 billion in emergency funding to deal with the surge of children on the border. This idea has raised alarm bells among immigration and refugee advocates, who say voluntary removal is often coerced

Until the current border crisis, talk about Gov. Rick Perry as a serious 2016 presidential contender has generally been met with a lot of eye-rolling. Now, however, the media and voters are seeing a Rick Perry largely absent in the 2012 race — shrewd, self-possessed, competent and calm. A number of circumstances work to his benefit in this situation, providing him with his first real opportunity to re-introduce himself to non-Texas voters: He has credibility on the issue, not only because he warned the federal government about the impending crisis but because he’s spent years dealing with enforcement issues. His compassionate stance

SAN DIEGO - The family that drew national attention when they were rescued at sea off their sailboat, Rebel Heart, in April is finally setting the record straight. Charlotte and Eric Kaufman and their two daughters were about 1,000 miles west of Cabo San Lucas in the Sea of Cortez when 1-year old Lyra became sick. That was when their adventure of a lifetime turned into a nightmare. It began with a fever, then a rash and then Lyra became lethargic. That was when the couple used their satellite cell phone to call a doctor. He advised them to begin treating Lyra

Of all the headaches of her current book tour — the declining sales, the constant travel, the interviews that generated unkind headlines about her family’s wealth — this one may sting Hillary Rodham Clinton the most: Her memoir, “Hard Choices,” has just been toppled from its spot on the best-seller list by a sensational Clinton account by her longtime antagonist Edward Klein. It is a powerful statement about today’s publishing realities that Mr. Klein’s book, a 320-page unauthorized and barely sourced account full of implausible passages, including one about a physical altercation between Mrs. Clinton and President Obama, has landed atop

If you´re a media outlet that caters to a New York or California-based audience who consider themselves to possess liberal leanings, there´s an easy way to score points: Just talk about how awful Texas is. This is such a reliable way to get cheers from your audience that last year, The Daily Show literally ran a segment called "F**k You, Texas." The idea of Texas, and its 27 million people, as an easily-stereotyped monolith is a popular one outside of our borders. That´s something that became clear, once again, when Cosmopolitan sent reporter Jill Filipovic down to learn about what´s happening

[Video] Obama complained Thursday that he’s “lonely” doing all the work in Washington by himself, without Congress. “You know it is lonely, me just doing stuff. I’d love it if the Republicans did stuff too,” he said during his speech in Austin, Texas. “Sometimes I feel like saying to these guys: ‘I’m the guy doing my job. You must be the other guy’,” Obama remarked, quoting Mark Wahlberg’s character in “a great movie called ‘The Departed.’ A little violent for kids.”

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. But three-dozen organizations representing newspapermen and other journalists, mostly liberals, beg to differ. In a testy letter to the president on Tuesday, the group decried the “slick non-answers” and cold shoulders they’re getting from Mr. Obama’s representatives, who have restricted access to any information they consider embarrassing to the administration. “The stifling of free expression,” the signers
