Labour has an Orwellian mission
to control what the working
classes put in their stomachs.
So much for socialism

Telegraph [UK], by Brendan O´Neill

Original Article

For all its infighting, for all its clashing cults of personality, for all the claims that it is split asunder between diametrically opposed Blairite and Brownite camps, for all the piffle about there being Red, Blue, Green and Purple wings of the party, Labour has had one constant feature over the past 10 years: a belief in the “politics of behaviour”. [Snip] The “new politics is about moderating behaviour and re-establishing the social virtues of self-discipline”, he decreed. Post-class, post-big politics, post-ideology, the job of political leaders is to “reinforce what is good and acceptable behaviour”, he said.

A lovely diatribe addressing what we´re going through via Michelle Obama and various others on the left who think they know what´s good for us and are determined to impose "pinch-faced miserabilism" upon us all. Now there´s a useful turn of phrase ripe for the picking.

Government´s only legitimate job is to protect citizens from Aggression. Internal aggression (crime) and external aggression (war).

ALL governments actually practice aggression against citizens, in varying degrees. Lately, government aggression seems to be on the rise. Seems to be what the majority of people want.

Prosecutors in Germany have searched the home of a defence ministry employee suspected of spying, in the second such case in a week. Residential and office areas were searched in Berlin on Wednesday morning, the federal prosecutor in Karlsruhe said. An intelligence agency employee was arrested this month for passing secret documents to US intelligence. The US promised on Monday to work to resolve the problem. There were no reports of a new arrest on Wednesday. The US has not denied allegations that the intelligence agency employee arrested earlier this month was passing secret documents to the US National Security

This is the shocking moment ISIS militants took sledgehammers to Iraqi tombs - smashing them to pieces. The rebels, who are members of the Islamic State terror group, were filmed attacking centuries-old graves in the north-west city of Mosul in Ninevah province. Donning balaclavas and black coats, they swung sledgehammers into the tombs, causing pieces of dust and stone to fly through the air. One of the devastated tombstones belonged to the Prophet Jonah (Younis in Arabic) and was revered by Muslims and Christians alike, according to Iraqi authorities. The Prophet, whom the Hebrew Bible´s Book of Jonah is written on, is best

The BBC has investigated, and found inaccurate, numerous graphic images which are being shared on social media to show how people in Gaza have been affected by the renewed tensions with Israel. [Snip] Over the past week the hashtag #GazaUnderAttack has been used hundreds of thousands of times to distribute pictures claiming to show the effects of the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza’s population. Some of the images are of the current situation in Gaza, but a #BBCtrending analysis has found that many images date as far back as 2009 and others are from conflicts in Syria and Iraq.

The Israeli army has launched its biggest offensive in nearly two years on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, killing more than 20 Palestinians in airstrikes on 160 sites. Army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner says warplanes early Wednesday attacked sites including Hamas command centers and rocket launchers. The offensive has set off the heaviest fighting between Israel and the Islamic militant group Hamas since an eight-day battle in November 2012. Militants unleashed rocket salvos deep into Israeli territory, and Israel mobilized thousands of forces along the Gaza border for a possible ground invasion into the Palestinian territory. The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Enough is enough of the years of abuse from this president. His unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, “no mas.” Without borders, there is no nation. Obama knows this. Opening our borders to a flood of illegal immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America. It’s the only promise he has kept. Discrediting the price paid for America’s exceptionalism over our history, he’s given false hope and taxpayer’s change to millions of foreign nationals who want to sneak into our country illegally. WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said. “Your health care decisions are not your boss’s

President Obama evidently has decided not to put a human face on the crisis unfolding at the U.S. southern border—not even his own. The White House said over and over again Monday that Obama will not travel to the border with Mexico despite flying to Texas this week to raise money for Democratic candidates there. It´s certainly in part a political decision, one meant to avoid taking ownership of a difficult issue on which the White House would prefer to share blame.
