Thom Tillis wins GOP Senate

WASHINGTON — Thom Tillis won the GOP Senate nomination North Carolina on Tuesday, delivering a big win to establishment Republicans over Tea Party insurgents. Tillis, speaker of the North Carolina House, easily got over the 40% threshold needed to avoid a runoff in the closely watched Senate primary. Obstetrician Greg Brannon, who had the support of Tea Party favorite Rand Paul, was coming in second in the eight-person field as results were being reported by the Associated Press. The North Carolina Senate race was the first primary contest pitting the Tea Party and grass-roots conservatives vs. mainstream Republicans. The skirmishes will

Dear T(h)om.
I live in your state. I won´t vote for you. I won´t vote for that --- Kay either. You are a machine politician, an establishment republicrat. Just look at what the establishment has gotten me so far.
I simply have no time to waste voting for you while I should be preparing for what the establishment has in mind for me. I´ll get on with it now. Bye...

I don´t disagree with #2-- but isn´t that what put Obama back in the WH in 2012?

Will we lose the Senate to the Dems again or does it really make no difference at all?

So the media won´t refer to real terrorists as terrorists and instead will use the term insurgent.

They they refer to persons running for public office as insurgents and carry on with the silly military metaphors - skirmishes, etc.

Exactly right, #3. I believe it´s called "cutting off your nose to spite your face". Some things never change and it sounds as if some get their way, the Senate will stay with the democrats. Personally, I don´t understand that way of thinking, but then that´s just me.

#2, I worked with Thom Tillis some time back in the private sector and think highly of him though I know a lot can change over the years and I worked with him long ago. I understand your frustration because you´d like someone else but I hope you are just venting. As George Orwell famously said, pacifism was objectively pro-fascist; not voting for the Republican against Hagan is objectively pro-Hagan and indirectly, pro-Obama. I had to vote for John McCain in 2008. I didn´t want him but I voted for him because I didn´t want Barack Obama at all. #3 hits the nail on the head. I want whoever will defeat Kay Hagan. I don´t have any choice at all since I live in New York. Please exercise the choice you have wisely.

This will continue to happen until conservatives unite and put up one candidate against these establishment RINOs. Until then, the RINO will cruise to victory while the conservatives have a food fight.

#2, you may be bitterly disappointed because a more conservative candidate did not win the nomination. Or you may simply be a Democrat troll seeking to poison the discussion, discourage real conservatives from voting and undermine our chances of wresting the Senate from Democrat control. If the former, than I understand your disappointment, but urge you to man up and unite with others to break the Democrat stranglehold on our country. If the latter, then you should know that we are on to your kind. So just go away and stop trying to poison the well here.

I know Thom Tillis very well and supported him 100 percent--as I will in November.

I am very conservative and believe strongly in the principles put forth at the founding of the ´Tea Party´. It was Taxed Enough Already!

Tillis not only gets that, he has done something about it. As Speaker of the House he cut taxes, and he did a lot of other conservative things too--both economically and socially conservative.

I resent it that short-sighted losers like #2 want to claim they own conservativism. You don´t. You are an enabler for Obama, Reid, Schumer and Hagan.

Please don´t let people like #2 destroy our chances to turn this country around!

Chris Stirewalt was very excited tonight that a Thom Tillis win would probably give the Senate seat to the Republicans. Now what is wrong with that, pouters?

Most of us have figured out that sticking with our candidate through the primary is good - and then voting for the Republican against a Democrat in the general election is the overall winning strategy.

We have some lo-fos here, too. Just don´t grasp the concept. They gave us Obama while they sat home and sulked. They are what is really wrong with the Republican Party....

Greg was on Mark Levin´s show the other day. I was praying for him, but had a gut feeling that the Repstablishment Steam roller machinery would flatten him like an empty beer can and they did. I am beginning to hate Lame Stream Republicans more than Democrats. At least the non Tea Party establishment types. So Tillis will now join ranks with his new play pals, McCain Graham and Ayott and the rest of the RINO´s and speed up amnesty, tax increases, global warming and increasing the spending on shovel ready jobs.

The Senate has great power and that power lies with the party that has the majority. We have seen what a Dem dominated Senate can do. How can any thinking person plant their feet and say they will let a Democrat win a Senate seat, that "there is no difference"? There is a BIG difference.

I wouldn´t have the guts to publicly opine that it doesn´t make any difference to me if the Dems win the Senate again. More so, I would do everything I could to keep it from happening.

Muncsdad and I are original members of the Tea Party here--not RINOs, etc. Greg Brannan would not have won against Kay Hagan. It´s funny, he ran as a republican but proudly announced he did not vote for the republican (Mitt Romney) for president AND did what he could to discourage others from voting for him. He and all the self-righteous, smug, purists are the reason we have Barack Obama ruining America.

Tillis is a conservative. He will be able to defeat Hagan and help take back the Senate.

Seems some of his supporters are just like him.

To those who have attacked Tillis, you don´t know him. He is a strong conservative who can and will defeat a extreme leftist--Kay Hagan.

I´ve read a good deal about the 2012 elections. It wasn´t Tea Party types who stayed home, it was a combination of Perot voters, Reagan democrats, and blue collar conservatives. But the biggest reasons Romney lost have been reported in detail. He never wanted to run, hated the whole idea, had no state campaign operations to speak of vs the democrats--all this was known by the RNC who were fine with it. Also Romney refused to spend any of his famous millions on his campaign when it desperately needed it in the last few months. Instead of campaigning in key swing states he would stop campaigning and take time off to raise money. Romney, his sons, RNC staff and consultants still made $1 billion at the end.
If there´s a poison well anywhere it´s obviously those running the Republican Party.
