Why Germans Love Russia
New York Times, by Clemens Wergin

Original Article

BERLIN — Like most foreign-policy experts, I was shocked by Russia’s annexation of Crimea and its continuing “soft invasion” of eastern Ukraine. Can such a naked land grab really be happening now, in 21st-century Europe? But Russia’s actions were not the only surprise. If you have followed the German debate about the Ukraine crisis, you have witnessed another strange phenomenon: a parade of former politicians and public figures going on TV to make the case for Russia. According to these august figures — including former Chancellors Gerhard Schröder and Helmut Schmidt — NATO and the European Union were the real

Idiot columnist says he is a "foreign policy expert" but was surprised by Russia´s annexation of Crimea. Any student of Russian history would never be surprised by any of this. They sense weakness in the West and opportunity in Ukraine and the result is pretty much inevitable.

Interesting article. It is sometimes amusing to listen to someone so ardently proclaim their complete mystification as to what is going on around them and why.

"But that still means that nearly half of all Germans do not feel a deep connection with the West and its values — which is precisely what Mr. Putin wants."

Perhaps the West is no longer the West. When the American president, for the last half century the leader of the West, proclaims himself on the side of Islam, switches sides to arm alqaeda in Syria, sets about a plan to install the Muslim Brotherhood in power in Libya, Egypt, and Syria, and pursues welfare state domestic policies that have been proven to not work by the European countries that tried them, why indeed would Germany look to the "West"?

NYT is just plumping up the pillows so Obamidiot has a soft landing when his appeasement policies end in total disaster for the west.

Illegal immigrants are being secretly flown to Massachusetts and kept in local lockups in an under-the-radar operation that has alarmed lawmen who are raising health and security concerns amid recent spikes in detainees coming up from Texas during the latest border crisis. “We’re all becoming border sheriffs now with these people being carted all over the country,” said Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson. “The blame goes all the way up. It’s a travesty and people ought to be upset,” Hodgson said. “This is un-American and has raised the stakes to the public health and public safety threat.” Hodgson said buses from his

Riot police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse a group of rock-throwing vandals who disturbed a rally by Argentines celebrating their team´s gutsy performance in a 1-0 loss to Germany in the World Cup finals. Thousands of Argentines, saddened but proud, had gathered peacefully at the iconic Obelisk in downtown Buenos Aires to applaud their team´s best World Cup performance in 24 years. Police initially remained on the sidelines as fans poured into downtown Buenos Aires. But late Sunday night they began chasing down vandals. The youths, many of them with their faces covered and drinking heavily, responded by hurling

It’s not often that North Korean-flagged freighters turn up near America’s shores, but when they do, they deserve attention. North Korea has a prolific record of arms smuggling, narcotics dealing, counterfeiting, terrorist ties and missile and nuclear proliferation. So, let’s hope U.S. authorities are keeping a close eye on a North Korean cargo ship called the Mu Du Bong, which late last month called at Cuba, then vanished from the commercial shipping grid for more than a week. This past Thursday, July 10, the Mu Du Bong reappeared at Havana, then began steaming north of Cuba, and as of this
