U.S. businesses are being destroyed
faster than they’re being created

Washington Post, by Christopher Ingraham

The American economy is less entrepreneurial now than at any point in the last three decades. That´s the conclusion of a new study out from the Brookings Institution, which looks at the rates of new business creation and destruction since 1978. Not only that, but during the most recent three years of the study -- 2009, 2010 and 2011 -- businesses were collapsing faster than they were being formed, a first. Overall, new businesses creation (measured as the share of all businesses less than one year old) declined by about half from 1978 to 2011. The authors don't mince words about the stakes here: If the decline persists,

So? You haven´t heard? Businesses are run by greedy profiteers. To be fair, government should supply the people with their needs.... K-12, people. Our kids are being taught by folks who believe this.

This article is a classic case of garbage in for garbage out.

It uses contrive statistics to lobby for massive immigration, unsupported by immigration-related analysis and absent any reference to immigration in the statistics themselves.

The author willingly swallows the use of undefined terms and statistics (dynamism and job reallocation) as the foundation for the article and the paper supporting it.

Angry Muslims in Malaysia demand a Jihad, or holy war, be declared on confectionery company Cadbury and their parent company after traces of pig DNA were found. In response Cadbury Malaysia is pulling Cadbury Dairy Milk hazelnut and Cadbury Dairy Milk roast almond from shelves in the Islamic country, Reuters reports. A group of more than 20 Muslim organizations condemned the UK-based company, owned by Mondelez International, saying “it has crossed the line.” “They have betrayed us Muslims by

Americans should be more worried about policies that discriminate against minorities than racist rants that grab media attention, Attorney General Eric Holder said Saturday. In a commencement speech at Baltimore’s Morgan State University, he warned of subtler forms of racism — including harsher prison sentences for minorities and voter-ID laws that threaten to keep them from the polls. Holder didn’t mention

May 13, 2014 marks one year since Philadelphia abortion Dr. Kermit Gosnell was convicted of first-degree murder “in the deaths of three babies who were delivered alive and then killed with scissors at his grimy, ‘house of horrors’ clinic,” according to AP. Gosnell instantly became the face of abortion in in the prolife community. But there’s another, more recognizable face pushing abortion in the U.S. – liberal billionaire Warren Buffett. The so-called “Oracle of Omaha” has donated more than $1.2 billion to abortion organizations from 2001 to 2012

With Iraq in danger of falling apart, new troubles on the Mexican border and other problems mounting up in Washington, President Obama on Thursday will try to the shift the narrative by reconnecting with average Americans. The president will travel to Minneapolis on Thursday and spend a day “in the shoes” of a mystery woman identified only as Rebekah. The woman, whose last name has yet to be revealed, recently wrote a letter to Mr. Obama, inspiring the president to visit her and learn more about her daily struggles. The White House is painting Thursday’s event as the first in

Ordinarily, President Obama’s days are planned out to the smallest detail. But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. I’m just going to make it up as I go along,” Mr. Obama said during a town-hall meeting at Minneapolis’ Minnehaha Park, one of the few planned activities during his two-day stay in the Twin Cities. “I’m like a caged bear,

Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

In the absence of a special prosecutor, the best opportunity for piercing the veil of secrecy and evasion that surrounds the IRS handling of groups perceived as enemies of the Obama administration lies in civil litigation. (snip)The absence of any official judicial inquiry into the inner workings of the IRS processes is why it is so important to note that yesterday saw the beginning of the discovery phase in the lawsuit by Z-Street a pro-Israel organization that was told its application for tax exempt status was being delayed because: …these cases are being sent to a special unit in the DC

ALAN COLMES: You know it’s funny to me that conservatives talk about how much they love the constitution but when somebody exercises their constitutional rights they’re declared guilty when they’re not supposed to be. Simply because of the Fifth Amendment. Does invoking the Fifth Amendment indicate guilt? I mean, I love how conservatives always tell me how much they love and admire and basically want to have sex with the constitution – except they’d probably get paper cuts with that old parchment paper – but when somebody actually exercises their constitutional rights, it’s a big problem.

President Obama, tired of waiting for Congress to act on immigration reform, is currently exploring ways to address issues with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. During an interview with MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest explained that the Obama administration was getting impatient with Congress. “[W]e’re not just going to sit around and wait interminably for Congress,” he explained. “We’ve been waiting a year already. The president has tasked his Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson with reviewing what options are available to the president, what is at his disposal using his executive authority to

Comparisons between Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney have been greatly exaggerated, Hillary Clinton says. Clinton practically rolled with laughter when PBS’ Gwen Ifill noted humorlessly that her own husband has been “forced” to defend her recent comments about being “dead broke” after leaving the White House. What was humorous in that remarks is known only to Clinton. “I shouldn’t have said the, I think, five or so words that I said,” the former secretary of state said. “My inartful use of those five words doesn’t change who I am.” Later in the interview, Ifill asked if Clinton had become the Democratic adaptation of

A shocking new report from the Center for Immigration Studies claims to prove that every single new job created in America for the last fourteen years has gone to immigrants, legal and illegal. This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000. But it’s an entirely different picture for immigrants — 5.7 million more

It was the elephant on the back of the elephant in the middle of the room. In a recent interview with Rusty Humphries, Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio made news by saying that the Obama administration was “incompetent” and that its current dumping of illegals in Arizona is intentional. Yet perhaps even more shocking was a 45-second segment of the interview that has received scant attention: A claim by Arpaio that he’s close to discovering who forged Barack Obama’s birth certificate. His comments were made between 9:59 and 10:44 in the interview and began as an explanation of why he

Were Lois Lerner’s allegedly lost emails actually destroyed? An Ohio-based trade association, the International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers (IAITAM), isn’t so sure, and they don’t find IRS commissioner Koskinen’s explanation of their loss very plausible. IAITAM administers internationally accepted certifications for information technology professionals. According to the group’s standards, if Lerner’s supposedly malfunctioning hardware was properly destroyed, there would be records of it. Dr. Barbara Rembiesa, president of IAITAM, questions whether there is documentation of the destruction of the files. Who performed the work, says Rembiesa, is important because not all IT professionals are IAITAM certified. “The notion

Actress Amy Adams traded her first class seat on a Detroit to Los Angeles flight with a soldier who had been booked in coach. Adams reportedly noticed the American serviceman at the gate and quietly asked to switch seats with him. The five-time Academy Award nominee has often spoke glowingly of her father´s time in the military and of growing up on bases in both Italy and U.S. She then had a brief chat with the soldier near the cockpit and scurried to her seat in coach before many people noticed what had happened, according to ESPN host Jemele Hill, who witnessed the switch. How far did the establishment GOP forces backing Senator Thad Cochran go in Mississippi this week? Too far, and their tactics are likely to leave permanent scars in a civil war with Tea Party forces that are out of all proportion to the importance the establishment placed on saving one 76-year-old senator’s ability to please Washington’s K Street lobbying interests. “This is a win for the establishment, but it’s a win with an asterisk, because it’s so tainted that it might be one of those things where they’re going to be sorry they ever won the runoff in Mississippi,” Craig
