Boko Haram: backward but brutal
Telegraph [UK], by Editorial

Boko Haram, the name of the Islamist group that has terrorised Nigeria, roughly translates as “Western education is forbidden”. The title nicely sums up its philosophy: aggressively anti-Western, backward-looking and fuelled by ignorance. Among its more quirky views are that the Earth is not spherical and that Darwinian evolution is a nonsense. But Boko Haram is far from a joke. Since 2002, it has claimed an estimated 10,000 lives through attacks on Christians and government targets. And last month, its members abducted an estimated 276 schoolgirls under cover of darkness. It is thought that they were kidnapped for the purpose

Islamic based organizations like Boko Haram can´t be fixed. Until Western countries are willing in go after them with overwhelming force using the tactics of Gengis Khan to wipe them out there will be no hope.

Here is the Obama administration´s green strategy reduced to one damning equation. 19 million jobs lost plus $4.335 trillion spent = a reduction in global mean temperature of 0.018 degrees C. [Snip] Millions of Americans will endure lower quality of life and be unable to heat or cool their homes properly, pay their rent or mortgage, or save for college and retirement. They will suffer from greater stress, worse sleep deprivation, higher incidences of depression and alcohol, drug, spousal and child abuse, and more heart attacks and strokes. Iranian troops have helped the Iraqi government retake the City of Tikrit from the Islamic fundamentalist force--‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIS). The government in Baghdad is said to control 85 percent of Tikrit thanks to assistance from Iran’s Quds force, the overseas branch of the Revolutionary Guard. [Snip] News of Iran’s involvement is likely to raise further concerns about the political situation in Iraq. Not least because it comes after Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered two attacks on Camp Ashraf, a refugee camp that is effectively a prison to Iranian dissidents. On one occasion the camp

People blame the new horrors in Iraq on the American-led invasion in 2003. But the exact reason why the country is in civil war today is because the Americans are not there. If US troops were still present, the fanatical ISIS, the “Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham”, would not have swept through the north of the country and now be threatening Baghdad. [Snip] Barack Obama had a legacy earlier than any other American president. He was the first black president before he was even inaugurated. Very shortly after that, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. From the start,

Britain and America are weighing up military options in Iraq ranging from air strikes to the deployment of the SAS as jihadist fighters allied to remnants of the Saddam Hussein regime threatened to engulf Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. At the White House, President Barack Obama said he would “review options” over the weekend to counter the threat from the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, an ultra-violent offshoot of al-Qaeda that has seized much of the north and west of Iraq--although he said there would be no “boots on the ground”. Meanwhile in London William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, said

A group of military deserters have painted a devastating picture of the ability of the Iraqi army to stand and fight, telling The Telegraph how entire divisions surrendered Mosul, Iraq´s second city, without firing a single shot. The United States once had Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi in custody at a detention facility in Iraq, but president Barack Obama let him go, it was revealed on Friday. Al Baghdadi was among the prisoners released in 2009 from the U.S.´s now-closed Camp Bucca near Umm Qasr in Iraq, The Telegraph reports. It is unclear why the U.S. let the merciless al Qaeda leader slip away, however, one theory is that al Baghadadi was granted amnesty along with thousands of other detainees because the U.S. was preparing to pull out of Iraq.

Every time a major tournament kicks off, a group of supporters take the gigantic St George´s flags, garish banners and tacky souvenirs out of the cupboard, dust them off, and attach them to the front of their homes. The aim of the patriotic makeover is to become the talk of the street--but some always take it that step too far. Climate McCarthyism has claimed another victim. Dr Caleb Rossiter--an adjunct professor at American University, Washington DC--has been fired by a progressive think tank after publicly expressing doubt about man-made global warming. Rossiter, a former Democratic congressional candidate, has impeccably liberal credentials. But none of this was enough to spare him the wrath of the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) when he wrote an OpEd in the Wall Street Journal describing man-made global warming as an "unproved science." Two days later, he was sacked by email. The IPS said: "We would like to inform you that we are terminating your position

The Islamic State of Iraq and greater Syria (ISIS) is shredding Iraq. After seizing the northern city of Mosul on Monday, on Tuesday ISIS stormed down Iraq’s route 1 highway to take Tikrit. BOSTON — Once fearing he would be viewed as "a loser for life" if he failed to win the presidency, Mitt Romney is trying to re-emerge as a force in Republican politics. Romney has quietly sought kingmaker status in the GOP´s fight for the Senate majority this fall and its quest to retake the White House in 2016. The effort at revival is fueling whispers about a third presidential run. But those closest to Romney suggest he´s more interested in shaping party politics by lending his name and record-breaking fundraising machine to what he considers the next generation of electable conservatives. After praising the school’s focus on career-centered education and encouraging graduates to give back to their communities, Mr. Obama addressed the rising cost of higher education, blasting Senate Republicans for stalling a Democrat-backed bill that would allow borrowers

Clinton, who joined NBC News as a “special correspondent” in November 2011, was up for renewal or non-renewal this year. Instead, the sources said, the network decided to keep her on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so that the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary, runs for president. Kamyl Bazbaz, a spokesperson for the 34-year-old Clinton, referred POLITICO to NBC News, which declined to discuss Clinton’s contract. “We don’t comment
