US teachers nowhere as
diverse as their students

Associated Press, by Jesse J. Holland

Original Article

U.S. teachers are nowhere near as diverse as their students. Almost half the students attending public schools are minorities, yet fewer than 1 in 5 of their teachers is nonwhite. New studies from the Center for American Progress and the National Education Association are calling attention to this "diversity gap" at elementary and secondary schools in the United States. The groups want more to be done to help teachers more accurately mirror the students in their classrooms. Teachers are always pushing their students to excel, said Kevin Gilbert, coordinator of teacher leadership and special projects for the Clinton Public School

Comments:
And teachers even less diverse when it comes to diversity of thought. The diversity in this article is only skin-deep.

This is what passes as enlightened liberal thought today. Don´t hire teachers based on subject mastery or effectiveness in presenting material. No. Hire them based on skin color and/or ethnicity. Teachers are already, with exceptions, among the least gifted of all professional occupations; lets knock it down even further.

I think this article mostly proves that black folks aren´t stupid. Why, when much better paying jobs are clamoring for diversity hires, would Rastus settle for teacher´s pay?

Well if over 50% of students in schools are non-white they are no longer minorities in the schools. You would think that they would want the best teachers that their school districts could hire regardless of their skin color, but that is not the way it works with the race hustling industry.

The propaganda machines at the nea, center for american progress and the disgraceful arne duncan are all piling on with WH talking points that minority students receive disproportionate, harsh punishments from public schools. They blame this indignity on racist, white teachers who cannot relate to minority students. The propaganda has trickled down to leftist foot soldiers at the local school administrative level who faithfully follow the script. After 20 years, I´m getting out of public school teaching before the real trouble kicks in.

Years ago when I was a military advisor in Latin America, I discovered almost by accident that Latin soldiers and officers more highly regarded white American officers and soldiers than those of Puerto Rican or Mexican extraction. Why? The latter were thought to be just different versions of themselves, and they were all-too-aware of the corruption in their own ranks.

For the past two decades I´ve taught high school, the last ten years on an Indian rez. I´ve found that these people also think more highly of white teachers than teachers of their own people. Why? Their own people will pass a kid because he´s so-and-so´s aunt or grandma or other kin. The white teachers pass only the ones who really do pass. The old-timer Indians know this and proudly say that when THEY were in high school, all the teachers were white.

When my teacher-daughter was in college majoring in English, she had a black racist teacher who wore here detestation of whites on her sleeve. She apparently didn´t like my daughter and was out to "teach her a lesson." My daughter ast my advice and my first question was, "Does this woman know her subject? Are you learning useful things from her?" "Yes." "Then stay the course and show her you´re tough enough to take it." She did. She failed the first time but got an A the next time. She still detests that professor but says that because of that professor, she is far better prepared than had their paths not crossed.

From all this I conclude that maybe the best possible situation IS a teacher of a different ethnicity.

Calling for teachers to be more ´like´ their students is calling for conformity. Having teachers who are different from the students is promoting ´diversity´.

Or....do all words have secret, coding meanings now ???

Let´s fix this.

Apply AA for public school jobs retroactively. Fire at least 40% of present employees and hire minorities. Start the new hires with 15 years of seniority and benefits.

Only then will the most politically correct and conformist group on Earth, US educators, learn what they advocated for others meant.

It is true that most teachers are not minorities. But if you look at administrators you will find that there the ranks are filled with minorities. I wouldn´t say they are incompetent at a higher rate than the non-minority administrators, almost all of the administrators I worked with were incompetent.

If We took "race" off of all applications, We would be better off.

Strange stats considering the blacks that think their schools aren´t good enough get vouchers to private or religious schools where they are mostly segregated.

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security.
