Half of Illinois residents would move to another state if they could — the highest percentage for any state, according to a poll released by Gallup this week. Nearly half of those polled in Connecticut and Maryland said they would move. Some 19 percent of Illinoisans surveyed said they plan to move in the next 12 months, a rate that trailed only Nevada. The New Jersey-based polling firm conducted interviews of 600 residents in each state, asking “Regardless of whether you will move, if you had the opportunity, would you like to move to another state, or would you rather remain in

Voting with your feet? The political establishment in Illinois should take notice here. There is nothing quite so clear as that hand in your pocketbook and the safety of your person as a reason to vacate the premises.

Note to Illinois: It´s worse than that. I´m from Illinois but left 20 some years ago. Have family there still. Had a major move this past year and when considering where to go thought about Illinois. Immediately crossed it off the list because of the taxes and corruption. To be closer to beloved family was not enough to make us move back.

I lived the first 50 years of my life in Kane County. It was a nice town with good people. Then Caterpillar arrived along with Armour Dial and everything went downhill after that. Corruption has been going on since the First Mayor Daley. Nothing has changed. I left there almost 20 years ago due to hubby´s job transfers. My three children and their families are there. I would love to be closer, but would never move back to IL! Weather stinks! I´m in FL now and it´s better weather and much better on the retirement pocketbook!

Not all of us in Illinois are parasites. I´m in the NW corner which is a conservative stronghold, though relatively sparsely populated. My local tea party organization (including myself) were a wee bit annoyed when, at redistricting time, our area was gerrymandered into the same district as that cr4phole, Rockford.

It looks like Pope Francis is rethinking the idea of celibacy for clergy, and it’s about time. In a recent interview with the founder of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Pope Francis was asked about the church’s sex scandals and the requirement that priests be celibate. (Snip) The Vatican then sounded a cautionary note, saying La Repubblica’s article — which also claimed the pontiff said about 2% of Catholic priests are pedophiles — might not quote Pope Francis’ exact words, but reflected the “sense and spirit” of his feelings. Still, translations of the article said the Pope recalled that celibacy was adopted 900 years

UK police have arrested 660 alleged pedophiles following a six-month investigation. The suspects include doctors, teachers, scout leaders, care workers and former police officers. The UK’s National Crime Agency said Wednesday that the operation occurred across the UK and involved 45 separate police forces. The agency estimated that over 400 children have been protected as a result. The operation, which was kept secret until the arrests were made, involved targeting those accessing pedophilic images online. A total of 39 of those arrested were registered sex offenders though the vast majority was unknown to the police. Those who have been charged

JERUSALEM — Plans for a truce devolved into threats of a wider war Tuesday as the first significant attempt to end more than a week’s worth of round-the-clock fire between Israel and Hamas ended before it had even begun. The unravelling of an Egyptian cease-fire proposal offered little immediate hope for a diplomatic solution to a conflict that has left more than 190 Palestinians in Gaza dead and that on Tuesday claimed its first Israeli fatality. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave the military authorization to use “full force” against militants in Gaza and vowed that Hamas and its allies

The primitive folk assessed by many archaeologists as being the original native Americans - that is, the Clovis people - killed and ate the lovable prehistoric elephants that once inhabited the continent alongside them, scientists have found. The proto-dumbo species in question is known as the gomphothere. Until recently, it had been thought that gomphotheres had disappeared from North America well before human beings showed up, but new fossil evidence appears to show that at least one cuddly tusker was brutally killed by Clovis people around 13,400 years ago. The luckless pachyderm was then scoffed by its peckish assailants. "This is the

The study, published in the Lancet Neurology Monday, is the first to quantify the combined impact of lifestyle factors influencing dementia. It identifies exercise as the most significant protection against the condition. Those who failed to do three 20-minute bursts
