Obama Called on to Appoint Special
Investigator to Probe the VA

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) called on President Obama to appoint a special investigator to probe the treatment of wait-listed veterans at the VA. Reports surfaced last week that at least 40 veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, and many of those who lost their lives were put on a “secret” waiting list. The chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), said Friday he wants to wait for the results of an inspector general’s report before investigating the death, despite calls from fellow senators to hold hearings right away. “My strong

Comments:
They are finally getting around to even mentioning this in congress?? So far we haven´t heard a word from Obama or any of his incompetent talking heads. Does he really think Obama will appoint a special investigator? You´ve got to be kidding. It really bothers me that there is not more passion and outrage from Republicans on this. Cornyn acted like he was reading a menu rather than vociferously condemning such horrific and reprehensible behavior by the VA!

GOP Rep. Screams in Benghazi
Hearing: Video Blaming ‘Only

During hearings in the House Oversight Committee on Thursday into the military’s response to the attack on an American consulate in Benghazi in 2012, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) became animated while probing a witness over his immediate impressions of what was behind that attack. Based on the testimony of the witness, Chaffetz asserted that it was clear the White House was the source of the claim that a video was responsible for that attack. Chaffetz noted that previous investigations into the Benghazi attack revealed that military commanders became aware of what the assault was attributable to soon after it began. Retired

After his appearance on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning, Scientific American editor Michael Moyer tweeted that a producer had told him to avoid the subject of climate change, along with other complaints about the tone and substance of the show. On Thursday morning, the hosts of Fox & Friends pulled the old I’m-rubber-you’re-glue move, calling Moyer a “coward” to the tune of Cindy Lauper‘s “True Colors.” “It looks like he has a problem with Fox,” co-host Steve Doocy said. “But if he had a problem, why did he come on? Clearly it was just to promote himself and maybe his magazine

GM (GM, Fortune 500) has teamed up with a sustainable agriculture group to build what it calls "the first shipping container homestead" in Detroit, complete with a working farm. But it´s far from a "Little House on the Prairie." This home is made from a shipping container donated by the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative, GM´s partner in the project, while the bulk of the building supplies will be supplied by the automaker. In fact, 85% of the home´s materials will come from scraps collected at GM plants. For instance, it will be insulated with sound-proof car insulation, while plywood from large shipping

A Republican House member is drafting legislation that would authorize military and intelligence operatives to kill the terrorists involved in the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission and CIA base in Benghazi, Libya, The move comes after Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, Joint Chiefs chairman, told a closed House committee hearing that he does not have legal power to strike the perpetrators, who killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador, in 2012. Several lawmakers have expressed frustration that the terrorists continue to go free after President Obama vowed to bring them to justice.

On the fateful night that Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared, officials apparently didn´t notice for 17 minutes that it had gone off radar -- and didn´t activate an official rescue operation for four hours. Those are two of the details outlined in a preliminary report by Malaysia´s Transportation Ministry released to the public Thursday. The report had been sent to the International Civil Aviation Organization, the U.N. body for global aviation. What´s remarkWhen did the plane disappear? WASHINGTON -- U.S. military personnel knew early on that the Bengahzi attack was a "hostile action" and not a protest gone awry, according to a retired general who served at U.S. Africa Command´s headquarters in Germany during the attack. While the exact nature of the attack was not clear from the start, "what we did know early on was that this was a hostile action," Retired Air Force Brigadier General Robert Lovell said in his prepared statement this morning to members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. "This was no demonstration gone terribly awry." Lovell´s testimony is the first

The shaky cell phone video shows a group of black teenage boys punching, knocking down, and kicking a white teenage boy, leaving him dazed and confused on the school bus floor. The victim of the attack had been riding home from Parkway Academy School near Dover when the assault reportedly began. The video shows him sitting alone, facing front, when the attack begins from the rear – and continues from the side and the front of the school bus. "I

Two Democratic Congressman and Attorney General Eric Holder are spearheading equally disturbing efforts to monitor and control the behavior of Americans—even if the Constitution and the truth get trashed in the process. Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) have introduced a bill known as the The Hate Crime Reporting Act of 2014. It would require a relatively obscure government agency, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), to “update a report on the use of telecommunications, including the Internet in the commission of hate crimes.” “We have recently seen in Kansas the deadly destruction and loss of life

What should the NBA do about Donald Sterling? The answer is easy if you are a columnist, or Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan or LeBron James, or a fan disgusted by the Clippers owner´s racist rant. You can say you are "obviously disgusted" (Jordan), that you will never attend a Clippers game as long as Sterling owns the team (Johnson) or that there is "no room" for Sterling in the NBA (James). You can be proud, knowing you took a stand. But if you are commissioner Adam Silver, the question gets complicated. People demanding that Silver get rid of Sterling

One aspect of the scandal, anyway. The administration has released a series of emails in response to FOIA requests by Judicial Watch. You can read them here. Why hasn’t Shepard Smith come out yet? The affable Fox News anchor has a longtime boyfriend, ranks among Fox’s most senior talent, and lives in New York City. It could be, of course, that he’s just a very private person, or—as the Times argued in October—that public attitudes have changed and nobody cares if a famous figure is gay. Or it could be that, when Smith tried to come out last year, Fox silenced and punished him. In the summer of 2013, according to multiple sources with knowledge of their exchange, Shepard Smith approached Fox News president Roger Ailes about

Secretary of State John F. Kerry has stepped in it again — with a gaffe that this time not only makes him look foolish but makes a mess of U.S. foreign policy and destroys any chance he had of realizing his legacy pipe dream of brokering Middle East peace. In a private meeting with senior international officials Friday, Kerry said that if the Israelis and Palestinians can’t achieve a two-state solution, Israel risks becoming “an apartheid state with second-class citizens.” Israelis are aghast — especially with Kerry’s remarks being reported yesterday on Holocaust Remembrance Day — and have started issuing calls for

The White House says a botched execution of a death row inmate in Oklahoma fell short of the humane standards required when the death penalty is carried out. Officials halted Clayton Lockett´s execution Tuesday when he convulsed violently and tried to lift his head after a doctor declared him unconscious. He later died of an apparent heart attack after spending 40 minutes writhing in pain. White House spokesman Jay Carney said Wednesday that President Barack Obama believes evidence shows the death penalty doesn´t effectively deter crime. That said, Carney reiterated that Obama believes some crimes are so heinous that the death penalty is

Barack Obama’s Asia tour had the look and feel of a tired, uninterested president simply going through the motions. Other than just showing up, Obama did precious little to advance our interests or demonstrate his oft-promised “pivot” to Asia. The trip was instead overshadowed by Ukraine’s continuing crisis and the collapse of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. And the visit’s real legacy, the spreading impression of U.S. lassitude and weakness, is profoundly dangerous. In particular, Obama made no progress on Asia’s most pressing issue, Beijing’s assertive territorial claims in the East and South China Seas, thus missing a significant chance to deter future Chinese belligerence. MILWAUKEE — A federal judge in Milwaukee struck down Wisconsin’s voter identification law Tuesday, saying a requirement that voters show a state-issued photo ID at the polls imposes an unfair burden on poor and minority voters. U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman sided with opponents of the law, who argued that low-income and minority voters aren’t as likely to have photo IDs or the documents needed to get them. Adelman said the law violated the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection. Adelman’s decision invalidates Wisconsin’s law and could set a precedent for similar legal challenges in Texas, North Carolina and elsewhere.
