Students who graduate from the University of California-Berkeley can expect to spend roughly $120,000 for a four-year degree. This year, they still must pay an extra $10 to attend their own graduation ceremony, where they will also listen to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Students who do not cough up the cash before Wednesday, April 30 for the campus-wide commencement ceremony have been told they will not be able to attend on May 17 at California Memorial Stadium. “[The money is] to absorb the cost of commencement,” Lila Blanco, director of external relations and the Office of Protocol at the

Right. You can bet, though, that they´re "reimbursing her for expenses".

If I were one of the students graduating, I would be (rudely urinated) for two reasons:

1. Because I had worked my butt off for four+ years and now I was being charged to attend my own graduation, and
2. Because once I actually get to my graduation, Botox Barbie is there to foul things up, sort of like a bean fart in an express elevator!!

Echoes of a Strongman in Baghdad Today

Baghdad - The ghost of Saddam Hussein still hangs over Iraq like a cloud stalking a sunny day; it doesn’t always cover the sun, but it never quite goes away. Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki’s slide into strongman territory in the years since American troops left has been well documented. His government and security forces have harassed Sunni Arabs with baseless arrests, or by keeping them in jail beyond their mandated terms. And for Sunni militants caught by the security forces, summary execution has become increasingly common. Even as his Shiite-dominated government has been condemned for abusing Sunnis, however,

A conservative group is welcoming New Jersey Gov. California is embarking on a first-of-its-kind attempt to improve the academic lives of foster youth by giving schools more money to meet their special learning and emotional needs and holding educators and administrators accountable. But first, officials have to figure out how many school-age foster children they have and where they are enrolled in a state that´s home to nearly one-fifth of the nation´s foster children. Until now, no state has attempted to identify every foster child in its public schools or to systematically track their progress, much less funnel funds toward those students or require school districts to show they are spending

Westminster, MD - As news spread this weekend that undocumented immigrant children might soon live in a former military facility in this town, graffiti appeared on the one-story brick building: “No illeagles here. No undocumented Democrats.” Aside from the misspelling — which prompted some snickering about sick birds of prey as a photo circulated on Facebook on Sunday — the scrawled message was a manifestation of the bitter national debate over how the government should treat these undocumented children. Tens of thousands of unaccompanied Central American children have arrived on the southwest border

How Palin’s Call for Impeachment

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin first made her case for the impeachment of President Barack Obama here. She next explained her argument at FoxNews.com. Last week I explained in a Think Tank post why I thought Ms. Palin’s idea is a very bad one. I want to return to Ms. Palin’s recommendation in order to make a broader point about conservatism. Ms. Palin is not only championing the impeachment of President Obama; she also was a cheerleader for the tactic that led to the government shutdown last October. That turned out to be a disaster for the GOP and conservatism, and it achieved nothing useful.

Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
