New Obamacare Fix Is
Bad News for Democrats

Fiscal Times, by Brianna Ehley

A little-known proposed change to the president’s health care law could result in a new political nightmare for Democrats who are vulnerable in the 2014 midterm elections.Vox.com says the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposal in March that would prohibit insurers from selling fixed-benefit insurance plans as stand-alone policies. Fixed-benefit plans are so bare bones they don’t even qualify as actual health insurance under the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate – so people who are covered by these plans only are still subject to the penalty unless they qualify for an exemption.

Yes, they are. All the actual insurance plans have been declared illegal. We can´t have risk based liability coverage, no we have to have prepaid health care so that the healthy can pay for the sick.

Next will be prepaid auto coverage so that good drivers pay for the accidents of poor ones.

Sigh!

I agree with Charles, every time a mother has to drive by medical facilities she had previously used but are now outside her plan, she will be reminded why she now votes for Republicans.

Geithner Fretted Over Social Security
Deficits --Before the Dog Whistle

In an election year, political-speak is done with dog whistles. That’s the backdrop readers may want to use in understanding former Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s confession in his latest book about the talking-points memo he got for his Sunday morning TV appearances from Obama Administration official Dan Pfeiffer on not equating Social Security reform with deficit reduction. Pfeiffer suggested Geithner avoid talking about Social Security reform as helping to cut the deficit in order to send a calming “dog whistle” of a signal to the Democratic base that Social Security will not be touched, in order to keep voters in the

The Postal Service says it lost $1.9 billion over the first three months of this year and is pleading again for Congress to pass reforms to its financial system. The agency said Friday that the loss for the quarter ended March 31 matched the $1.9 billion in red ink in the same period last year. And it came despite a 2.3 percent rise in its operating revenue and continued cost-cutting efforts.

"Angry" Obamacare opponents are "more mobilized" for the 2014 midterm elections than the health care law´s beneficiaries, according to a longtime adviser to President Obama. David Axelrod, an Obama veteran who is now advising Britain´s Labour Party, told the New York Times that Obamacare suffers from a public perception problem. Obamacare is viewed "more as a social welfare program than a social insurance program," Axelrod said, "but that's not right because it is social insurance." Axelrod's distinction is questionable given the massive Medicaid expansion within Obamacare,

A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.

A crowd of 300 angry protestors forced three buses carrying 140 undocumented migrant children and their parents to turn around in Murrieta, California, on Tuesday after they blocked the road. The dramatic confrontation between the flag waving protestors and the Homeland Security buses came one day after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to resist the federal government´s plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border. Holding up banners that said ´Return to Sender´ and suggesting the children should be sent to the White House instead, the irate protestors succeeded when the buses

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama had a bit of a weird moment at the White House tonight during an LGBT reception when the president praised the exquisite work of the White House Executive Pastry Chef and joked if he puts crack in them. A crack joke at the White House. Bet you never saw that coming. The Obamas said they were sad to see Bill Yosses leave the White House. The president said, “His pies––I don’t know what he does, whether he puts crack in them––but…” The first lady quickly jumped in to clarify that no, “there is no crack in our

NEW YORK — Target is asking its customers to not bring firearms into its stores, even where it is allowed by law. In a statement posted Wednesday on the retailer´s corporate blog, interim CEO John Mulligan said that Target wants a "safe and inviting" atmosphere for its shoppers and employees. "Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create," he said. (Snip) A group called Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America gathered nearly 400,000 signatures for a petition asking Target to prohibit shoppers from carrying guns

WASHINGTON – Republicans see the November midterm elections as an opportunity to take the nation on a different path and call for a new conservative message focusing on the problems of regular Americans. During the latest convention of conservative activist Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C., Republicans confidently proclaimed that the GOP has an opportunity to turn back the past six years of President Obama’s administration in the midterm elections. “There’s only one thing to be done in 2014…and that is to take back America by taking back the Senate,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said

Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, has a unique item of herself in her office: a photo of herself with three figurines bowing down in worship in front of it. The photo drew attention after Jarrett´s "Meet the Press" interview Sunday — and Jarrett posted a tweet Tuesday afternoon assuring her supporters the display was simply a novelty item. "Don´t worry friends, it was a gag gift," Jarrett wrote, pivoting to some White House messaging about the economy. "Us strong women don´t need worship," she continued, "just an economy for the 21st century. #WomenSucceed." Business Insider directly

Two Texans may be vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016: Sen. Ted Cruz and Governor Rick Perry. Cruz overwhelmingly won the Texas GOP 2016 convention straw poll, confirming his position as the conservative grassroots candidate. He fires up crowds unlike any other politician today, and the power of motivating voters and volunteers should not be underestimated. But will he run in 2016? The signs point to yes. One of his staffers left his office to start a committee to draft him into running. He has visited the early states and spent many weekends during his first 18 months in office raising

St. Claire Shores, MI -The feminists hadn’t shown up yet, but they could, at any moment, with their protest signs and screaming. The threat of them was an infuriating and exhilarating specter throughout the weekend, a symbol of the oppression facing the men’s rights activists who had gathered to meet for their inaugural conference. Early Friday before the opening session, a wispy trail of men — mostly white, college-through-retirement-age — waited for the doors to open outside of this Veterans of Foreign Wars outpost in suburban Detroit. One man talked about his ex-wife. A lot of guys talked about their ex-wives.

The Obama administration is not too concerned about possible Republican responses to its unilateral administrative actions on immigration. “What that they might sue?” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said laughing when asked Tuesday about possible Republican retaliation for the executive action. “They announced they were doing that last week,” he continued. “So, the prospect that Republicans might do even more to try to obstruct the president’s agenda I think is a little far-fetched. It seems to me they have tried every single thing they can think of already to block progress for this country so the fact that they

Higher education is no longer just for kids in the top quarter or the top half of the class. College is for everyone," First lady Michelle Obama told a gathering of school counselors in Florida on Tuesday. "Every student in this country needs some higher education, whether that´s two-year degree, a four-year degree, or professional training of some sort." Mrs. Obama went to the annual meeting of the American School Counselor Association in Florida to thank counselors for taking on a demanding job without the resources necessary to meet the challenges. They, in turn, made her an honorary school counselor.

Reverend Steve Fielder, a pastor at the First Union Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi, has accused Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran’s campaign of engaging in an illegal and criminal campaign scheme to purchase the votes of black community members. The suspect votes were cast during Cochran’s successful effort to defeat Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi Republican primary run-off held last week. If true, such an action would be clearly illegal under both federal law and Mississippi statutes, specifically MS Code 97-13-1; MS Code 97-13-3 (2013) (Federal Code 18 U.S.C. 597, U.S.C. 1973i(c)), each punishable by a prison
