Harry Reid plans minimum
wage vote this week

Washington Examiner (DC), by Susan Ferrechio

After months of delay, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will hold a critical test vote on legislation that would raise the minimum wage by nearly 40 percent, to $10.10 an hour. The bill anchors a Senate Democratic agenda that focuses on income inequality. Democrats say the current minimum hourly wage of $7.25 deprives workers of a decent standard of living. Like other legislation on the Democratic agenda, however, the minimum wage bill has no chance of passing the Republican-led House. In fact, the bill won’t even make it on to the Senate floor for debate because Republicans oppose it and

This is just more of the despicable Reid´s inherent dishonesty and posturing. The Democrats are trying to make up for lost ZeroDontCare hours by having people currently working 29 hours at $10.10 be paid about the same as working 40 hours at $7.25. So the low-foe lemmings will presume they´re getting something for nothing, either by slightly more pay for less work or more likely via two years of unemployment.

What part of our US Constitution allows Congress to tell private businesses what they will pay their workers?

This is not about minimum wages. This is all about payback to Reid´s precious Unions, whose hourly pay is based on minimum wage plus X%.

Recently, I heard 0bama on the radio, claiming that "we" are wrong about the minimum wage, it is not just for beginning unskilled workers...the "average minimum wage earner" is 35 years old!

I wondered how that could happen, in my limited experience, if you are working at the same job over 90 days, and haven´t yet gotten a raise to above minimum wage, you are doing something wrong...do you show up on time? do you work at least 55 minutes of each hour? do you accomplish your job correctly, or does someone else have to fix things behind you? are you a go-getter or do you need to be nagged to finish your tasks?

Then I thought about the statement...average...if you have two 20 year olds with no experience and one retired 65 year old working part time...that averages out to exactly 35.

Progressives say the blue-state model works. After all, states like California, Massachusetts and New York have some of the nation´s wealthiest and best-educated populations. But many are also basket cases, reeling from problems ranging from high costs of living and widening income inequality to chronic fiscal crises. And leading blue states often possess unique assets that protect them, at least for a time, from the full economic consequences of their public policies. What happens when the blue-state model is tried in a place without the advantages of a favorable climate, educational hubs and fortress industries? What happens when you go

When President Barack Obama arrives in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, Gov. Rick Perry won’t be there to greet the commander in chief. The Texas governor’s office said the White House had invited Mr. Perry to meet the president on the tarmac in Austin. But in a letter Mr. Perry sent Monday, he told the president: Thanks, but no thanks. Instead, Mr. Perry suggested the two meet privately to discuss the surge in children and other migrants from Central America illegally crossing the U.S. border. “I appreciate the offer to greet you at Austin-Bergstrom Airport, but a quick handshake on the

On May 29, President Barack Obama had lunch at the White House with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The likely 2016 presidential contender has been to hundreds of West Wing meetings, first as first lady, then as senator, and finally as the top American diplomat. But this face-to-face was unusual. Unlike dozens of presidential meetings every week — and a similar Obama-Clinton meeting in July 2013 — it was not announced in advance. Instead, reporters who cover Obama learned about the secret visit from a People magazine tweet, and ultimately managed to wring a terse sentence from an anonymous

I am one of the people who always disliked Hillary Clinton. It has seemed a conundrum these past two decades as so many other people appear to have felt the same. I´ve given it a good deal of thought and have come to the conclusion that it comes down to one specific item: Bill. Why I dislike Bill is still crystal clear. From my review of Carol Felsanthal´s masterful Clinton in Exile: " ... an odyssey of gold watches and billionaire friends; bimbos, bling and a private airplane bigger than a doublewide; and cash-raising speeches, end on end — three

Airlines in Ireland and China have looked into the concept, but none have yet put the idea into practice. Major carriers in the
