Obama Vigorously Defends
Foreign Policy Record

Boston.com, by Julie Pace

President Barack Obama vigorously defended his foreign policy record Monday, arguing that his cautious approach to global problems has avoided the type of missteps that contributed to a ‘‘disastrous’’ decade of war for the United States. Obama’s expansive comments came at the end of a week long Asia trip that exposed growing White House frustration with critics who cast the president as weak and ineffectual on the world stage. The president and his advisers get particularly irked by those who seize on Obama’s decision to pull back from a military strike in Syria and link it with virtually every other

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." (Hunter S. Thompson)

REM dreams are the deepest, the most powerful, and probably the most significant, although the most recent before wakeup are remembered most vividly. In one such dream the wise aboriginal chief stood aside, smiling, as the Obama of that day promised the chief´s subliterate subjects the sun, the moon, and the stars, if necessary, by bureaucratic decree or EOD. The Magic Pen triumphant! After each ringing asininity from the lectern, the natives prostrated themselves and thundered, "Hose-anga!"

The punch line of the joke is, like Goldwater´s uncompromising message to Nixon in mid-1974, delivered as the one who must finally get it through even the granite cranium of the Blightbringer, that the devil´s work is finally done, that he can now cease his endeavors, that he can continue to seek his earthly reward in public entertaining and transportation costs for his retinue and himself. ValJar´s dream is completed, other than Ayers´s forty-year-old vision of minus two point five times ten to the seventh power.

And that when crossing the fields he should take care not to step into the hose-anga, which is the approximate value of a Nobel Peace Prize these days. In 2009 Obama became a fellow recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. At one time this was an honor bestowed upon (mostly) universally respected figures. This venerable award that was honored by Albert Schweitzer, micturated upon by Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter, voided upon by Albert Gore and sent to Dr. No´s U-235 inferno by Obama, was the second of recent Nobels for not being Bush--after two weeks on the job. I´m duly impressed. When the hailstorm occurs the hose-angas, and perhaps the hose-angueur, will cease their intolerable prattling.

Time after time, President Obama has reportedly learned of a number of big administration scandals in the media, from the IRS to Fast & Furious and now the VA scandal over wait times and veterans dying before receiving proper treatment (Jay Carney said today the president learned about this scandal through media reports). All this apparent unawareness before the fact led Charles Krauthammer to argue on Special Report today that Obama acts like he “stumbled upon the presidency” only to be shocked by how much wrong there really is. He lightly mocked the idea that Obama is “madder than hell”

As an uncommonly brisk night fell over Houston last week a tiny Russian spacecraft, bathed in blinding sunlight, re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere and plunged toward a dusty steppe in Kazakhstan. Of the three astronauts inside one was American, Rick Mastracchio, returning from a 188-day stay aboard the International Space Station. His arrival was closely watched in Houston, where Johnson Space Center has responsibility for U.S. human operations in space. Documents obtained by the Washington Times revealed that the Bush Administration warned the Obama Administration about problems within the Veterans Administration as early as 2008, yet both the ABC and NBC evening news broadcasts ignored the story on Monday, May 19. Of the big three networks, only the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley covered the new revelations in the VA scandal. CBS News host Scott Pelley noted that “The Bush White House was so concerned about this back in 2008 that it warned the incoming Obama Administration.”

After the full House of Representatives cited former Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official Lois G. Lerner for contempt of Congress on Wednesday, the Washington Times fittingly made it the lead story. Over at the Washington Post, however, print readers had to go 19 pages deep to “The Fed Page,” a union-style newsletter for federal employees. If the Post had buried the story any deeper, it would have been wedged into the classifieds or crumpled up in a backyard mulch barrel. Here’s how the New York Times handled the story: “The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to hold Lois Lerner, a

According to the Miami Herald, Bush made those comments Wednesday night in San Antonio, Florida at Saint Leo University, while speaking about education, immigration, and energy policy. Bush did not address Johnson´s Great Society and War on Poverty programs, about which Ronald Reagan once famously quipped, "We had a war on poverty, and poverty won." The House has held Lois Lerner in contempt, but it won’t use its power to place the former IRS official under arrest, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said on Sunday. Under a precedent affirmed by the Supreme Court, each chamber of Congress can authorize its sergeant-at-arms to detain individuals it holds in contempt. But Boehner said on "Fox News Sunday" that he has no interest in doing that with Lerner, whom the House last week voted to hold in contempt over her refusal to testify about her role in the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups. “I’m not sure we want to go down that path,” Boehner said. “It’s never been used,” he said of the

WASHINGTON - As the United States attempts to punish Russia for its actions in Ukraine, the Treasury Department is deploying an economic weapon that could prove more costly than sanctions: the Internal Revenue Service. This summer, the U.S. plans to start using a new law that will make it more expensive for Russian banks to do business in America. "It´s a huge deal," says Mark E.
