Microsoft RACES to fix Internet

Microsoft Corp is rushing to fix a bug in its widely used Internet Explorer web browser after a computer security firm disclosed the flaw over the weekend, saying hackers have already exploited it in attacks on some U.S. companies. Microsoft disclosed on Saturday its plans to fix the bug, which targets Internet Explorer versions 9 through 11. Those versions take up 26.25 percent of the browser market, according to FireEye, the cybersecurity software company that caught the bug. The bug, however, reportedly affects versions 6 through 11. Together, those versions dominate desktop browsing, accounting for 55 percent of the PC browser

I have not used IE in the past 5 years - it is always buggy and I have gotten "hi-jacked", infected by using IE than any other browser. Firefox with the proper addons and Chrome seem to do me just fine.

After the recent dustup at Firefox headquarters, I looked for a new browser. With a background in software development since the early 70´s, I recommend:

http://www.palemoon.org/ - a spinoff of the Firefox browser engine by a group independent developers, that is to say, not affiliated with Mozilla. This browser is optimized for Windows and I have found it to be a pleasure to use compared to the increasingly bloated Firefox. Most Firefox extensions are comparable with Palemoon.

http://tinyurl.com/mqaua2u - Comodo Ice Dragon

The security conscious Comodo company has recently released two browsers. Dragon is Google Chrome. Ice Dragon is based on Firefox. They tout improved security, speed, etc. Comodo´s business is internet security and you really should be using their firewall.

All of these products are free. They support the AdBlock Plugin. They will import your existing browsers bookmarks, etc. Unless you have specific reasons, a 32-bit browser is preferred even on your 64-bit processor.

FTA: "The software maker said in a statement to Reuters that it advises Windows XP users to upgrade to one of two most recently versions of its operating system, Windows 7 or 8."

Curiously coincidental that this bug happens to appear just after Microsoft halts support for XP.

Why wouldn´t a fix be made available to any user of Internet Explorer regardless of operating system? The bug affects the browser, not the OS. $$$

A third of Americans think Congress should impeach President Barack Obama, polls released today show. Left-leaning publication the Huffington Post along with polling partner YouGov and right-leaning polling company Rasmussen Reports came up with roughly the same percent of Americans who think Congress should bring formal charges against the president in separate polls that were released this morning. The poll-takers also found that 68 and 58 percent of Republicans, respectively, think the president should be impeached. Congressional leadership has no intention of drawing up articles of impeachment for Obama, but a lawsuit the House plans to bring against the president for

A father from Virginia has gone to extreme lengths for his daughter, flying to Africa and claiming a “kingdom” between Egypt and Sudan so that she can be an actual princess. Jeremiah Heaton began his unusual quest for the unclaimed piece of land sandwiched between the two countries after making a promise to seven-year-old daughter Emily that she would one day be royalty. A would-be carjacker got a taste of street justice when he tried to steal a vehicle with a woman and child inside, after a group of passers-by rushed to her aid, dragging him away and holding him down until the police arrived. Ismael Hernandez, 21, is accused of getting into the car in a San Diego shoppers car park and attempting to drive off with the owner and her child still inside before crashing into a pole. Bastille Day! A day to remind ourselves yet again of the age-old formula that Revolution equals Political Inexperience times Zeal times Stupid Theory times Testosterone. Or R = PIZST2, if you prefer. Americans who are assigned to advise Baghdad’s forces could be at risk because so many units are deeply infiltrated by either Sunni extremist informants or Shiite personnel backed by Iran, the report by United States detailed. If the US does decide to assist in moving back the the advances made by Sunni militants in northern and western Iraq over the past month, the assessment concludes that only about half of Iraq’s operational units are able to carry out the push.
