What Georgia’s expansive new pro-gun law does
The Washington Post, by Niraj Chokshi

Original Article

Posted By:EveningStar, 4/24/2014 6:09:36 PM

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R) signed into law Wednesday a pro-gun package that groups on both sides of the gun control debate describe as exceptional. The National Rifle Association calls it ”the most comprehensive pro-gun bill in state history.” Americans for Responsible Solutions, the gun control group founded by shooting victim and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.), calls it ”the most extreme gun bill in America.”

Animals with Human Right
Make Researchers Run Scared

Dogs and cats, historically, have been people´s property like a couch or a toaster. But as they´ve moved into our houses and our hearts, courts of law have begun to treat them as something more. They can inherit your estate, get an appointed lawyer if your relatives challenge that inheritance and are protected from cruel acts. Your toaster can´t do any of that. As these animals inch closer to citizen´s rights, the trend is being watched with worried eyes by biomedical researchers who fear judges could extend these rights to lab animals like monkeys and rats, thereby curbing experimentation.

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

Mourning Their Idiot: Liberals Are

One of the tender mercies of Stephen Colbert´s ascension to the "Late Show" set at CBS is his shedding of the faux-conservative "high-status idiot" character. To conservatives, this "Colbert" has never seemed authentic or sustained cleverness -- how many times can you say you don´t read or even like books? It mostly marks the deep ruts of liberal arrogance in their own mental superiority. Colbert has perpetually had trouble staying inside this character, always winking at and mocking it more than inhabiting it. To liberals, abandoning this thin charade is far too much sincerity for an ironic age. They love their

According to a an article by CNN Money on a 2012 survey conducted in consensus with studies by the Census Bureau and Experian (2012, 2013), gays make more money than their straight counterparts. They also have less debt, higher education, and more equity in their homes. Gays also have a slightly lower unemployment rate in comparison to the nation as a whole. According to liberal standards, with an average of $61,500 for gays against the straight average income of $50,054, a straight person makes $0.81 per every dollar a gay person makes.

These shocking photos show child immigrants crammed inside cages and tiny rooms at a U.S. Government border facility--further highlighting the humanitarian crisis along America´s border with Mexico. [Snip] Congressman Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat, took the photos on his camera phone to highlight the terrible conditions children are being kept in. In one snap, taken during a tour of the Customs and Border Protection facility in South Texas, a large group of immigrants are locked in a wire mesh cage. This comes as the MailOnline learns that overworked border patrol officers struggling to cope with the huge influx are separating

The Islamic State of Iraq and greater Syria (ISIS) is shredding Iraq. After seizing the northern city of Mosul on Monday, on Tuesday ISIS stormed down Iraq’s route 1 highway to take Tikrit. This victory has left them emboldened and only 110 miles from Baghdad. [Snip] What´s happening in Iraq and Syria today is the nightmare that drove George W Bush to gamble everything on his January 2007 surge. He knew that Iraq’s collapse might enable Al-Qaeda in Iraq to rip the Middle East apart. And today Al-Qaeda in Iraq’s successor--ISIS--have never been closer to their dream.

BOSTON — Once fearing he would be viewed as "a loser for life" if he failed to win the presidency, Mitt Romney is trying to re-emerge as a force in Republican politics. Romney has quietly sought kingmaker status in the GOP´s fight for the Senate majority this fall and its quest to retake the White House in 2016. The effort at revival is fueling whispers about a third presidential run. But those closest to Romney suggest he´s more interested in shaping party politics by lending his name and record-breaking fundraising machine to what he considers the next generation of electable conservatives. Washington, DC – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) issued the following statement regarding the Internal Revenue Service informing the Committee that they have lost Lois Lerner emails from a period of January 2009 – April 2011. Due to a supposed computer crash, the agency only has Lerner emails to and from other IRS employees during this time frame. The IRS claims it cannot produce emails written only to or from Lerner and outside agencies or groups, such as the White House, Treasury, Department of Justice, FEC, or Democrat offices.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said she felt Congress lacked the guts to impeach President Barack Obama for acting like a "tyrant" by refusing to enforce the country´s immigration laws and deliberately causing a humanitarian crisis at the border. (Snip) "Anyone associated with support for Obama’s deceptive ploys that would stoop to using and abusing innocent children must be voted out of office," she thunderously wrote. They’re barely old enough to vote, but graduating seniors at a Massachusetts high school were encouraged Wednesday by President Obama to boot Republicans from office and help the administration enact more of its agenda. Speaking at the commencement service at Worcester Technical High School in Worcester, Mass., the president slowly transitioned from delivering a pep talk to leading a political pep rally. After praising the school’s focus on career-centered education and encouraging graduates to give back to their communities, Mr. Obama addressed the rising cost of higher education, blasting Senate Republicans for stalling a Democrat-backed bill that would allow borrowers

Chelsea Clinton earned an annual salary of $600,000 at NBC News before switching to a month-to-month contract earlier this year, sources with knowledge of the agreement told POLITICO. Clinton, who joined NBC News as a “special correspondent” in November 2011, was up for renewal or non-renewal this year. Instead, the sources said, the network decided to keep her on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so that the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary, runs for president. Kamyl Bazbaz, a spokesperson for the 34-year-old Clinton, referred POLITICO to NBC News, which declined to discuss Clinton’s contract. “We don’t comment

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton dismissed Matt Drudge and Karl Rove as “gamers” trying to plant false information in people’s heads. In an interview on National Public Radio, host Terry Gross brought up Drudge’s question about whether Hillary was leaning on a walker on her People magazine cover. She also referred to Rove’s questions about her health. “They are trying constantly to, you know, raise false canards, you know, plant, you know, false information, and that´s what they do,” Clinton replied, accusing both Rove and Drudge for not wanting to debate the "real issues." “They want people to get

One day before Majority Leader Eric Cantor´s historic primary loss, the Wall Street Journal reported: “Immigration´s Primary Effect Muted.” One day after, the newspaper is reporting nothing like the shocking upset will happen again. “Those senators have been preparing for months and months for whatever might come their way and they won’t be caught off guard,” Brian Walsh, a paid consultant of the National Republican Senatorial Committee told the Journal for a piece headlined “GOP Establishment: No More Surprises Coming.” “I don’t believe the circumstances we saw in Virginia are going to be replicated in any other Senate races,” Walsh told the
