Israel to suspend talks
over Palestinian unity deal

Israel has suspended its peace talks with the Palestinians in response to a unity deal between Hamas and Fatah. The decision came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chaired a six-hour meeting of Israel´s security cabinet. The Palestinian factions announced the reconciliation deal on Wednesday, saying they would attempt to form a unity government in the coming weeks. Mr Netanyahu told the BBC the Palestinian leader must abandon the deal if he wanted peace with Israel. Mahmoud Abbas has "taken a giant leap backwards", the Israeli leader told BBC Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen. The direct negotiations were already close

0bama sending Kerry in to make some secret deal with Hamas and Fatah killed the deal that never would be anyway. Fortunately, Israel has Netanyahu at the helm at this very dangerous time in Israel´s short history.

Lyft and Uber Get Banned from Virginia

For once, Uber and Lyft are going to need to work together for a common goal. Both car services were banned in Virginia by the Department of Motor Vehicles this week. The cease and desist ordered the California-based transportation startups to stop "operating in Virginia until it obtains proper authority." The DMV also threatened to fine the drivers if operations continue. Uber, Lyft and other similar app-based car services face major push back from traditional yellow cabs and black livery vehicles. These groups are well established and often have powerful lobbyists, pushing their desires through to the local government.

The inauguration of Petro Poroshenko as Ukraine´s new president was Europe´s biggest story today. The billionaire confectioner promised to bring Ukraine closer to Europe and the West. He also had some tough words about Crimea, which he delivered in the presence of Mikhail Zurabov, the recently restored Russian ambassador to Ukraine. "Russia occupied Crimea, which was, is and will be Ukrainian soil. Yesterday in the course of the meeting in Normandy, I told this to President Putin: Crimea is Ukraine soil. Period. There can be no compromise on the issues of Crimea, European choice and state structure.”

It wasn’t the biggest story following Tuesday’s elections in various states, but it was the biggest and most-ignored non-story. Mississippi’s new voter ID law got its first run in the June 3 primary, and the sky did not fall. Despite the tiresome and disproven claims by opponents that such laws cause wholesale voter disenfranchisement and are intended to suppress votes, Mississippi “sailed through” its first test of the new ID requirements, according to The Clarion Ledger, the newspaper of Jackson, Miss. Aside from being able to use any form of government-issued photo ID, like every other state with ID requirements,

Washington - A group of Roman Catholic bishops and Orthodox Christians wants the Vatican to lift a ban on married priests for a small segment of the American church. The committee wants the Vatican to allow ordination for married men in Eastern-rite Catholic churches in North America. Eastern-rite Catholics accept the authority of the pope but have many of their own rituals and liturgy. There are more than a dozen Eastern Catholic church groups in North America, but their total numbers are small. Eastern Catholic churches in the Middle East and Europe already ordain married men. But the Vatican banned the practice in America in the

Both Democrats and Republicans have rejected an excuse offered by the White House for why they were unable to inform Congress of the Bergdahl prisoner swap. The White House has offered several excuses for why it failed to notify Congress 30 days in advance as required by law. In a briefing for Senators Wednesday, the White House claimed Bergdahl´s life was in danger if word of the swap leaked to the media. The AP was first to publish word of the threat to Bergdahl´s life on Thursday. Their initial story was only a few paragraphs and attributed the claim to three unnamed "congressional officials."

There he goes again. At a press conference in Brussels Thursday, President Obama was asked if he was surprised by the controversy over his decision to trade Bowe Bergdahl for five high-ranking Taliban leaders. His response was vintage Obama: “I’m never surprised by controversies that are whipped up in Washington.” Thus establishing from the start that he considers the controversy to be a kind of partisan farce, he proceeded to rebut criticisms virtually no one has made. This is Obama’s favorite rhetorical trick; he builds and then tears apart a straw man while insisting that the American people are on

The Obama White House genuinely believed the release of the American soldier who disappeared in 2009 in Afghanistan would provide a triumphant moment for the president and a moment for national unity. Otherwise, there would have been no Rose Garden celebration featuring the president and Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s parents. Some in the White House surely saw the Rose Garden bit as a chance to play rope-a-dope with their political adversaries after weeks of getting beaten up over the Veterans Administration scandal. They might have calculated that a knee-jerk Republican offensive against the deal — Bergdahl in trade for five

This debate has raged on blogs and social media ever since Barack Obama put his arm around Robert Bergdahl, so having it erupt of Morning Joe today is less of a surprise and more of a cathartic. Chuck Todd, traveling with Obama on his tour of Europe, reacted to criticism from Joe Scarborough of the elder Bergdahl for his Taliban-friendly behavior prior to the release. Todd rebuked Scarborough for criticizing the father of a captive, a situation that’s impossible to imagine without experiencing it himself, but Scarborough angrily retorts that the father’s actions are open to criticism — especially those prior to his son’s desertion:

Taliban forces in Afghanistan turned him over to U.S. Special Forces on Saturday after nearly five years of captivity following his voluntary walk-off from his base

Hi, everybody. This is commencement season, a time for graduates and their families to celebrate one of the greatest achievements of a young person’s life. But for many graduates, it also means feeling trapped by a whole lot of student loan debt. And we’ve got to do more to lift that burden. See, in a 21st century economy, the surest pathway into the middle class is some form of higher education. The unemployment rate for workers with a bachelor’s degree is just 3.3 percent — about half what it is for high school graduates. The typical graduate of a four-year college earns $15,000 more per year than someone with just a high school degree.

One evening in March, during a visit to Italy, President Obama asked the U.S. ambassador to round up a bunch of—and I quote—“interesting Italians” for a dinner at the ambassadorial residence. The history of the property, the Villa Taverna, goes as far back as the tenth century. Its art collection includes Roman sarcophagi and centuries-old imperial busts. The menu that evening included a variety of pastas, and wines from Tuscany and the regions around Venice. Dinner lasted four hours. In this sumptuous and Baroque setting, amid these beautiful artifacts of long-gone civilizations, enjoying the finest foods and most delicate wines, President
