A fatal wait: Veterans languish and
die on a VA hospital´s secret list

CNN, by Scott Bronstein & Drew Griffin

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 4/23/2014 9:23:29 PM

At least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list. The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources. For six months, CNN has been reporting on extended delays in health care appointments suffered by veterans across the country and who died while waiting for appointments and care.

Comments:
In the VA´s defense, this was reported over two weeks ago. That dRATS won´t let up shows a willfull attack at something that the VA Hospitals have no real control. Obviously, that is money that the Congress should be sending to them to shore up a "troubled" system. At this point, it´s all 0bama´s fault. Money as we know is wasted on the ecoterrorist & social engineering of Military & country. But, 0bmama seems to have that secret stash of billions to give our enemies.

Allowing patients to die like that seems to be a form of euthanasia.

Given the total lack of respect towards life that Obama has, why would this scandal surprise anyone?
This unfortunately is just small taste of what the Country is facing with Obamacare unless that disaster is repealed.
The lack of respect towards our military is just appalling.

Sadly this is just a sample of what is coming in the new world of Obamacare. Insufficient resources and too many care seekers to be handled. Is this not the model coming to Medicare/Medicaid and then to all of medicine?

This is what single payer looks like. Compare it to England or Canada. You don´t have to improve if you can game the metrics.

My favorites are the woman who died in England after a drunken fall in her bathroom. She landed on a toilet brush. They removed plastic handle but missed the metal part embedded in her butt. After of year of complaints about the pain they discovered metal embedded in her leg. The bone had fused to the metal and she died of complications after surgery to remove it. Number 2 favorite was in Australia when they discovered after months of headaches that the patient still had 5 or 6 inches of knike still in his skull. He survive the operation.

It is wise to have relatives/friends accompany the veteran to the VA and make a record of all contacts with VA employees. Also, veterans should enroll with a Service Organization (VFW, PVA, and the like) so these Service Officers can function as ombudsmen for the veterans. These Service Officers if properly chosen will know the ropes at the local VA Medical Centers, and how to negotiate the various peculiarities that can arise in dealing with "the bureaucracy". Also make use of your Congressional representatives. VA bureaucrats do not like having to answer questions from "Congressionals" It is necessary to be polite, organized, and assertive. Veterans have been trained in the military to be obedient, and that can make them reluctant to be assertive. The VA was established for those who served. Don´t forget it.

This is what will happen when or if Obamacare takes full effect. The VA has long been the Progressive testing ground for socialied medicine. It´s not about "healthcare" or "insurance". It´s about control, population control to be soecific. The socialist elites get to decide who lives and who dies. Of course those doing the dying will be anyone not of the Progressive persuasion. Eventualy it will be taught in schools that it´s a citizen´s duty to die when their usefulness has been used up. We can already see the HHS plans to ration care and medicine to old people being formed.

I don´t understand why the family didn´t raise a stink with their Congressperson. I have learned through experience that the squeaky wheel does get the grease, so to speak. If there is a major concern you speak up about it and you don´t stop until you get action. We are fortunate, in today´s society, to have multiple avenues in which to use our megaphones when there is a problem. We cannot be timid when there is an important problem that needs addressing.

The blankety blank government run VA took the time to keep two sets of books, but not to give patients even the most basic care. Soulless government bureaucrats who will receive lifetime pensions and healthcare.

#12, John McCain is too busy cozying up to Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid, and trying to destroy the Tea Party. He can´t be bothered to help out veterans in the city he actually lives in.

My heart aches to hear this because there are good VA centers that do good work for veterans. My father was a recipient of their excellent care. I know for a fact that is not the case for all because my uncle who was cared for in another facility was not treated well at all. Under the atmosphere of where we´re headed with the Obamacare model, I expect that there will be fewer and fewer good choices. These men and women deserve better and I fault our politicians. Isn´t that what they are are charged to do; meet the needs of their constituents and not just use them for photo ops to prove they care about them. This is a disgrace. Best thing to happen would to force Congress to use the VA system for their care. Things would be put right very quickly.

They are redistributing money from disabled veterans medical care on subsidies for Zeroherocare low incomers. THey are cutting back standard tests and routine screenings as a result of budget cuts. Now dying for your country for the common good is the model for the economy and something veterans do not deserve. Standing up for veterans should be issue number one in this upcoming election.

Obama has no military experience and isn´t a US citizen so why should he care. He has coverage and all those sock puppets in Congress have great medical coverage so why should any of them care.

The way Obama treated Vets by closing the war memorials was disgusting so why would anyone think he cares about wounded. veterans.

#21, my understand is that the VA budget has increased. Congress needs to look inside the agency and see what they are doing with the funds that are allocated. This could come down to incompetence from the top down.

Now, if you think that our current speaker gives a damn, think again.

It´s stories like this one that has me NEVER using the VA medical services even though I am a veteran and veteran of the Vietnam War. For most of my life I have heard stories about how the care and treatment offered by the VA is seriously below standard. As such, I have all my life since I left the Air Force (I served two terms for 8yrs) I have always bought my own insurance out of my own pocket. And in 2008, I had triple by-pass heart surgery performed in a hospital even tho there is a VA hospital literally only a few blocks of where I live. I refuse to use them. Period. And articles like this one makes my blood boil. These idiots in DC have never served in the military and have no idea of what combat is and what is required of young men (and women). Sorry about the rant. I´m going to have to take a few in order to settle down.

Many years back, I went to the Phoenix VA, because I had an accident that threw me down on my hip !! I just wanted an MRI to see how bad it was.

I got my account setup at the VA, and was told that it would be 3 months to see "The Nurse", who would then set me up to see "The Doctor"!!!

Months of Agony later, I got to see the nurse. I could barely walk, as she tried to tell me nothing as wrong with me, and I didn´t have to see the Doctor !

While I was there waiting, I got to see the staff in action. Doctor would see one patient, for about 10 minutes. Then come out, go get a cup of coffee, chat with the staff, go pee, chat with the staff, then see another patient for 10 minutes. Maybe saw 2-3 patients in an hour !!!

I finally couldn´t take the pain anymore, and had to go to an MRI place and work out a payment schedule to get the MRI. (MRI actually showed 4 damaged disks). Then my insurance would pay to see my personal Doctor !!

NEVER WENT BACK TO THE VA !!!!

Everyone nice and angry at the VA? That´s what this article is intened to do...make even the most ardent VA supporters want to bash the VA. Well, there is a reason this is going on. It´s called ØbamaCare! That´s right. If you look into the VA really, you´ll find out it has changed over the Bush years for much the better and is now one of the premier medical care organizations in the world! The Administration is recognizing the VA is going to be a real trouble sopt in coming years as the majority of Americans fall and die under ØbamaCare and by comparison, there is going to be a political nightmare as Veterans get great healthcare while the rest (except Congress and gvmnt, of course) get crap health care.

Hate the VA! Write letters to your congress critter. Demand it be attacked and damaged...it must be put on a parr with Ø-Care!

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel quietly notified Congress last week that the military is set to transfer six Guantanamo Bay prisoners to Uruguay as soon as next month, The New York Times revealed Wednesday. The deal has been waiting for Mr. Hagel’s approval since March, but stalled after the Obama administration received a wave of backlash for releasing five Taliban detainees to Qatar in exchange for the release Army Sgt. A federal judge in Southern California ruled Wednesday that California’s death penalty was unconstitutional. The “dysfunctional administration of California’s death penalty system,” wrote Judge Cormac J. The delays, the judge wrote, means that sentences are carried out against only “a trivial few of those sentenced to death.” In essence, he wrote, sentences by juries have been transformed to “life in prison, with the remote possibility of death.” In making his ruling, Judge Carney vacated the death sentence of

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. The

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

The headline in the Washington Post on June 4 was clear: Rove-backed American Crossroads won’t get involved in Cochran runoff Said the Post story the day after Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel had defeated six-term Mississippi GOP Senator Thad Cochran in the first round of the state’s GOP primary: American Crossroads, a GOP establishment organization, has decided to shift its political focus almost entirely to the general election and will not be spending money in the likely runoff election to decide the Mississippi Senate nomination that was virtually deadlocked after Tuesday night. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
