Pupils found with handguns in school
Telegraph [UK], by David Barrett

Original Article

Posted By:Ribicon, 4/22/2014 8:06:17 PM

Nearly 40 children have been found with guns on school premises over the last three years, a shocking new national survey has disclosed. Figures obtained from police forces across Britain showed guns and air weapons had been confiscated on 37 occasions by officers - including two hand guns. The other guns included 27 ball bearing guns and seven other air weapons. The figures showed almost 1,000 pupils in total were caught by police with weapons in schools including a Taser stun gun, a meat cleaver, three axes and a cut-throat razor. The total is likely to be only the tip

Comments:
Bear in mind, handguns are banned completely in the UK, going back to 1997 or thereabouts, as I remember it.

This is really a story about finding all kinds of weapons, mostly knives, in schools. The guns found were mostly air guns, and it is not clear that any firearms were found.

The bigger question is why do kids feel it is necessary to arm themselves to go to school?

´Ball bearing gun´ otherwise known as a ´BB gun´ (gasp!) (faint!)
Other ´air weapons´ - that would include nerf, paint ball, airsoft, etc. Real dangerous stuff there, Britain. Buncha wusses.

Notice they didn´t mention the total number of students ?

Maybe they were bullied.
Maybe it´s self defense.

Washington and Lee University expressed regret Tuesday for the school’s past ownership of slaves and promised to remove Confederate flags from the main chamber of its Lee Chapel after a group of black students protested that the historic Virginia school was unwelcoming to minorities. President Kenneth P. Ruscio’s announcement was a surprising move for the small, private liberal arts college in Lexington, which has long celebrated its Southern heritage. Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee served as the university’s president after the Civil War, his crypt is beneath the chapel, and the school has gingerly addressed its ties to the Confederacy

Hackensack — As a prosecutor detailed the events that led him to this moment, parking meter coin thief Thomas Rica sat before Superior Court Judge Patrick Roma at his sentencing Wednesday completely expressionless. The intensely-tanned Hawthorne man stared down at the grain of the wood table before him — hands folded in his lap — as Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Daniel Keitel detailed his methodic removal of $460,000 in parking meter quarters from a storage room inside Ridgewood’s Village Hall. Keitel pored over the facts: Rica, Ridgewood’s public works inspector for ten years, was arrested last year after admitting to

Budget cuts and tight resources plague Newark public schools, but even in these tough economic times, the Newark Public Schools District has approved tens of thousands of dollars a month in spending on take-out food and catering. An I-Team review of district spending over a 15-month period ending in May found that Newark administrators spent more than $330,000, or an average of about $22,000 a month on food from places like Sandwiches Unlimited, SuzyQue´s BBQ, and King’s Family Restaurant and Catering. This, as the district faces a $42 million budget gap. In the spring, hundreds of Newark high school

A Cibolo man is charged with murder in a bizarre case of random violence at a San Antonio train depot. Michael Fobbs Jr., 21, is accused of beating a stranger to death with his bare hands. Police say it happened just after eleven Thursday night at the Amtrak station east of downtown. Witnesses claim they saw Fobbs pacing back and forth in the waiting area before suddenly attacking a 56-year-old man sitting on a bench. "There are no indications here that there was any sort of interaction, anything on the part of the victim that would have provoked this attack,"

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim. President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. But three-dozen organizations representing newspapermen and other journalists, mostly liberals, beg to differ. Screenwriter James Vanderbilt will make his directorial debut with the film, which will also star Cate Blanchett. Robert Redford has signed on to play Dan Rather in Truth, a film based on the 2005 memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power. The book, written by Rather´s producer Mary Mapes, centers on the firestorm that erupted in September of 2004 after Rather reported that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, a report that was based on documents that turned out to be forgeries.
