President Obama, disregarding his
own red line, dithers on Ukraine

Washington Post, by Editorial

After an agreement to “de-escalate tensions and restore security” in Ukraine was announced Thursday, Secretary of State John F. Kerry was very explicit about U.S. expectations. “We fully expect the Russians?.?.?. to demonstrate their seriousness by insisting that the pro-Russian separatists who they’ve been supporting lay down their arms [and] leave the buildings” in eastern Ukraine, he said. “I made clear to Foreign Minister [Sergei] Lavrov today that if we are not able to see progress?.?.?. this weekend, then we will have no choice but to impose further costs on Russia.” The weekend has come and gone, and far from

Our Ditherer in Chief once again doing what he does best. Problem is every Foreign Leader has his number. If he were a real Commander in Chief he would know that a Commander´s job is to Lead.....that´s something Obama doesn´t know how to do.

He can´t figure out how to spin the issue so it inflames the Democrat base against Republicans. So, Ukraine crumbles and Putin marches onward with little to worry about.

´Suspicious´: Experts, GOP lawmakers
question Lerner´s lost email explanation
Fox News, by Judson Berger    Original Article

Computer experts and Republican lawmakers are poking holes in IRS claims that the agency did all it could to retrieve embattled ex-official Lois Lerner´s allegedly "lost" emails, which the agency blames on a 2011 hard-drive crash. The email revelation already has prompted three congressional hearings -- with more likely to come -- as lawmakers grow more skeptical of the explanation and look for inconsistencies in the story. Among them, they point to a flurry of emails from mid-2011 between Lerner and the agency´s information technology team about the alleged computer failure which was attached to the agency´s mea culpa delivered to

Irritating phrases and words are not confined to political circles, or solely to Washington, although here in the nation’s capital they burrow in and proliferate like obsolete, but entrenched, government programs. This is a call to arms to fight them—but only metaphorically. 15: “WAR ON [FILL IN THE BLANK]” Syria’s civil war has produced 2.5 million refugees and a death toll of 160,000, a tragedy that has galvanized neither major political party into action. So next time a Democrat brays about the so-called Republican “war on women” or a Republican trumpets the Obama administration’s “war on coal,” tell them

I´m old enough to remember when American liberals cherished the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment. They celebrated especially the freedom accorded those with unpopular beliefs and protested attempts to squelch the expression of differing opinions. Today things are different. American liberals are not challenging the Supreme Court rulings extending First Amendment protection to nude dancers, flag burners and students wearing antiwar armbands. They are content to leave these as forms of protected free speech. But political speech is a whole other thing. Currently 43 Democratic senators are so-sponsoring the constitutional amendment introduced by New Mexico´s Sen. Tom Udall to amend

I spent a lot of 2008 feeling crushed. It was exhilarating covering Hillary Clinton’s historic run for the presidency, but there was so much about the race that was backward and retro, more 1958 than 2008. It wasn’t just the media’s goggle-eyed questions about whether the country was “ready” for a female president or the inane things that spilled out of people’s mouths on cable television—though let’s remember that Christopher Hitchens called Clinton “soppy and bitchy,” Mike Barnicle compared her to “everyone’s first wife standing outside a probate court,” and Keith Olbermann suggested that the Democratic Party needed “somebody who

It´s time to pass the hat for Hillary Clinton. The former secretary of state has tried to distance herself from her weeks-ago assertion that after husband Bill left the White House, the couple were "dead broke." She told PBS that the line was "inartful," but only after she told a British paper that she does not count herself among the "truly well-off." Nobody knows the troubles she´s seen. In the United Kingdom pushing her latest book -- for which she received a reported eight-figure advance -- Clinton told The Guardian that the Clintons should not be seen as out-of-touch swells: "We

The odds are that you think President Obama’s foreign policy is a failure. That’s the scathing consensus forming, with just 36 percent of Americans approving of Obama’s foreign policy in a New York Times/CBS News poll released this week. Foreign policy used to be a source of strength for the president, and now it’s dragging him down — and probably other Democrats with him. Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader, warns that Obama “has weakened the national security posture of the United States.” Trent Franks, a Republican member of the House from Arizona, cites foreign policy to suggest that Obama is “the

You can sum up today’s report on first-quarter gross domestic product in one short word: oof. The last estimate had GDP shrinking slightly from the prior quarter. The current estimate has it shrinking a lot: 2.9 percent on an annualized basis. If this keeps up for another quarter, the economy will officially be in recession. How did this happen? The White House line is that this was driven mostly by health care and net exports. But treat those figures carefully -- which is what I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter not doing. Health-care spending is a major factor in the downward

After more than a year of scrutiny, three congressional committees continue to flail away at the Internal Revenue Service´s alleged targeting of conservative nonprofit groups without producing any definitive answers to the questions they´ve raised. This page worried at the outset that the investigations would become too politicized to get to the bottom of the scandal. The result, however, has been even worse: Not only have two House probes disintegrated into partisan sniping, but the IRS further damaged its own credibility by belatedly disclosing the disappearance of two years´ worth of emails belonging to a key agency figure who has

The downside, and the upside, and the other downside of Hillary Clinton´s overwhelming popularity among Democrats, and the related likelihood that she will avoid a divisive primary campaign, is that she´s absorbing a tremendous amount of partisan opposition far ahead of her expected official candidacy. Her status forces Republicans to expend ammunition earlier than they´d ideally like, but it also carries the potential to weaken her favorables—to puncture her aura of inevitability—and a risk that she´ll make an irreparable error on the public stage.

What’s up with Clinton saying at that CNN town hall that kids crossing the border should be sent home? Believe me, Latino voters noticed. If the bond between Hillary Clinton and Latinos could be boiled down to a relationship status update on Facebook, it would read: “It’s complicated.” Boy, is it ever. And the relationship between the all-but-certain 2016 presidential candidate and America’s largest minority—and arguably its most important group of swing voters—was made even more complicated recently when Clinton stampeded into the delicate immigration debate. In an exchange that likely made many of her Latino supporters wince, Clinton wound up showing more

Warsaw, Poland — A Polish magazine said Sunday it has obtained recordings of a conversation in which Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski says the country´s strong alliance with the U.S. "isn´t worth anything" and is "even harmful because it creates a false sense of security." In a short transcript of the conversation, a person identified as Sikorski by the magazine Wprost tells former finance minister, Jacek Rostowski, that Poles naively believe the U.S. bolsters their security. Using vulgar language, the person argues that such beliefs are nonsense, and that the Polish-U.S. alliance alienates the Russians and Germans.

At the end of the Civil War, but before the pernicious reach of Jim Crow undermined the Union Army’s battlefield victory, former slaves and free blacks found themselves in possession of a most precious right -- the right to vote. It didn’t matter if a man had been a war hero in the famed, all-black 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment or a house servant in a Southern plantation. All that mattered was that he was a man. To say that this development didn’t sit well with the progressive-minded women of this country is an understatement. President Obama is now reaching terminal velocity, like a skydiver plunging toward earth. Except he doesn’t have a parachute. There’s a mighty splat coming soon. With his approval rating at 40 percent, down 6 points from early June, and just 29 percent of Americans convinced the country is on the “right track,” the president is doubling down on his strategy of blaming Republicans for his failures. Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. Under the direction of Lois Lerner, the Federal Election Commission sued the Christian Coalition in the 1990s. She harassed the Christian Coalition for three election cycles. Eventually, she lost her case. At one point Lerner even asked a targeted conservative if Pat Robertson prayed over him. (Sound familiar?) In 1996, while at the FEC, Lois Lerner harassed Republican Senate candidate Al Salvi and made him this outrageous offer, “Promise me you will never run for office again, and

But for his two-day excursion to Minnesota this week, the president boasted that he’s got little in the way of a formal agenda, has few firm plans, and warned Secret Service that he’s feeling “super loose” and could end up doing any number of things. “I don’t know. I’m just going to make it up as I go along,” Mr. Obama said during a town-hall meeting at Minneapolis’ Minnehaha Park, one of the few planned activities during his two-day stay in the Twin Cities. “I’m like a caged bear,

Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

What was humorous in that remarks is known only to Clinton. “I shouldn’t have said the, I think, five or so words that I said,” the former secretary of state said. “My inartful use of those five words doesn’t change who I am.” Later in the interview, Ifill asked if Clinton had become the Democratic adaptation of

A shocking new report from the Center for Immigration Studies claims to prove that every single new job created in America for the last fourteen years has gone to immigrants, legal and illegal. This would fly in the face of those who claim that immigration is an economic boon to native born Americans: The CIS report found that over the last 14 years, people who were born in the United States held 114.8 million jobs in 2000, and held 114.7 million jobs in 2014, a drop of 127,000.
