U.S. Conducts Spy Flight Over Russia
Washington Free Beacon [DC], by Bill Gertz

After a t*t-for-tat series of delays, the United States conducted an Open Skies Treaty intelligence flight over Russian territory on Monday, a State Department official said. The spy flight originally was scheduled for April 14 but was canceled by Russia after a U.S. team for the flight failed to arrive near Moscow on time and Moscow refused temporarily to reschedule it. A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman also expressed anger on Monday over U.S. delays in certifying a new high-tech Russian aircraft to be used for spying missions over the United States under the Open Skies Treaty that permits limited legal

Mike Rogers is leaving Congress has been very vocal about Snowden. Wonder if he is worried about the Intel he knew about Benghazi being released? Sure made a hasty career change for some reason or another.

Acting VA secretary: 18 vets on

PHOENIX — Investigators have determined that more than 100,000 veterans nationwide were kept off waiting lists for medical appointments, and Acting Veterans Affairs Secretary Sloan Gibson said the nation will learn Monday how many patients were relegated to "secret lists." During a news conference Thursday at the Carl T. Hayden Medical Center in Phoenix, where the VA medical scandal erupted, Gibson also disclosed that at least 18 Arizona veterans died while awaiting doctor appointments, though it remains unclear whether the delayed care is to blame for those fatalities. Gibson said he had details on 14 of the deaths and it

WASHINGTON — A classified military report detailing the Army’s investigation into the disappearance of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in June 2009 says that he had wandered away from assigned areas before — both at a training range in California and at his remote outpost in Afghanistan — and then returned, according to people briefed on it. The roughly 35-page report, completed two months after Sergeant Bergdahl left his unit, concludes that he most likely walked away of his own free will from his outpost in the dark of night, and it criticized lax security practices and poor discipline in his unit.

Six of the men Bowe Bergdahl served with sat down with Megyn Kelly on Thursday, and Kelly asked them how they feel about the White House saying the attacks on Bergdahl are just “swift boating” and are motivated by partisanship. All six of them insisted their criticisms are not based in partisan politics, but in fact. All of them agreed that “the truth needs to come out, he’s not a hero,” and that it was “hard to watch” him get such a glowing welcoming in the Rose Garden, given they believe Bergdahl abandoned them to seek out the Taliban and

FORT WORTH – George P. Bush, the GOP nominee for Texas land commissioner and icon of a new political generation in the party, extolled a cheering crowd at the Republican state convention on Thursday to resist Washington´s attempts to limit personal freedoms and continue reaching for new Lone Star successes. "Texas works. Washington, D.C. does not," he said, continuing a theme of federal-government bashing that repeatedly brought the nearly 11,000 delegates to their feet with applause in the opening session of the biennial gathering. "As great as Texas is today, we can do even better." Billed in opening credits as

Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer said he’d be a better president than Hillary Rodham Clinton, taking shots at the former Secretary of State’s ties to Wall Street and votes on the Iraq War. “Well, I think so, of course,” he told Time, on whether he would be a better president. “I think I have a background and a resume that isn’t just in government. But the time I was in government, I was a chief executive.” Mr. Schweitzer’s comments come as a number of prominent Democrats, including elected officials, have thrown their support behind a would-be Clinton bid even though

Seventy years ago today, he landed on these beaches amid the hell of battle. The cacophony of shells and gunfire. The cries of the wounded and dying. Yesterday, in the serenity of a sunny June morning, D-Day veteran Gordon Smith stood in silence on the same stretch of Normandy coast, alone with his memories. Staring out to sea from the sands where he lost so many comrades, the 90-year-old former Royal Engineer couldn’t hold back the tears. He was one of just 650 surviving British veterans making what might be their last pilgrimage to the landing grounds. For each, it

Throughout the eight years of the George W. Bush presidency, Democrats mocked George W. Bush’s purported lack of intelligence. Indeed, many still attack Bush with vile epithets implying his stupidity to this day. However, as with most Obama narratives, reality has caught up. (Video) In a roundtable discussion on Morning Joe on Wednesday, co-host Mika Brzezinski appears to be confounded about the Administration’s actions surrounding the Bergdahl prisoner exchange. She asks journalist John Heilemann to address it, with three “tough” questions about the situation – about Bergdahl’s health, why Susan Rice repeatedly said Sgt. Bergdahl served honorably, and why the White House said they consulted Congress when, by all accounts, they didn’t. She then offers the same reaction the whole country has expressed over the matter: What’s going on here? What is going on here? Seriously, I don’t understand it.

The seeds of what blossomed grotesquely in the Rose Garden last weekend — a celebration of the release of five senior Taliban military leaders in exchange for a U.S. sergeant purported to be a deserter — were sown a long time ago: on the second and third days of President Obama’s first term, to be precise. On his second day in office, the president signed an executive order directing that the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed. You can watch the cringe-inducing video of the signing ceremony on YouTube, as the president stumbles through a reading of the order to

One of the most striking elements of the Bowe Bergdahl affair is word that top Army officers were so anxious to keep the matter a secret that they directed Bergdahl´s fellow soldiers to sign a pledge of silence about his 2009 decision to walk away from duty in Afghanistan. "Many of Bergdahl´s fellow troops…signed nondisclosure agreements agreeing to never share any information about Bergdahl´s disappearance and the efforts to recapture him," wrote CNN´s Jake Tapper, who first reported the agreements last Sunday. Now, with Bergdahl back in U.S. hands, many of those former soldiers are ignoring the agreement they signed. They

Among the most tantalizing mysteries surrounding Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s departure from his U.S. military base in 2009 is this: Was he trying to find the Taliban? Or did he simply wander away and get captured? Politicians and members of the military have criticized the Obama administration’s decision to swap five jailed Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, saying the soldier may have deserted. Until now, few details have emerged about the circumstances of Bergdahl’s disappearance from his base. But The Washington Post has reached Afghan villagers who spotted Bergdahl shortly after he slipped away from his base. To them, it’s clear something was

Five years ago, I publicly raised questions about Bowe Bergdahl’s desertion from Blackfoot Company, 1-501 Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division. A few weeks after his so-called “capture” in late June 2009, three conflicting accounts had surfaced: U.S. officials told the Associated Press Bergdahl had “walked off” the base with three Afghans; the Taliban claimed on its website that “a drunken American soldier had come out of his garrison” and into their arms; and Bergdahl claimed in his Taliban “hostage video” that he had “lagged behind a patrol” before being captured. I asked on my blog: Were the

Bill Clinton´s critics in Arkansas used to say that he would rather climb a tree and tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth. In other words, Clinton would lie when the truth would do -- and when telling the truth would be easier. The saying might apply to the Obama administration´s public statements about Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier released from captivity in Afghanistan in a trade for five Taliban commanders held at Guantanamo Bay. There is substantial evidence to suggest that Bergdahl abandoned his post in 2009 -- he went AWOL, he deserted, whatever

The President reiterated his call for Britain to remain in the European Union. The commemoration of D-Day shows Europe depends on Britain for its prosperity, and the UK will lose out if it excluded, the President said.
