Experts warn civilian world not
ready for massive EMP-caused blackout

The catastrophic effects of an electromagnetic pulse-caused blackout could be preventable, but experts warn the civilian world is still not ready. Peter Vincent Pry, executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security and director of the U.S. Nuclear Strategy Forum, both congressional advisory boards, said the technology to avoid disaster from electromagnetic pulses exists, and upgrading the nation´s electrical grid is financially viable. "The problem is not the technology," Pry said. "We know how to protect against it. It's not the money, it doesn't cost that much. The problem is the politics.

I´ve heard this for at least twenty years, yet nothing has been done.
The first duty of a government is to protect the citizens.
Our government has not done so.

As long as various militaries can function and blow everyone to bits I will be content to die with the masses.

I sure hope our forces prove competitive in that greatest of Destruction Derbys.

And God, please let the President and the Congress and the Union Leaders survive it too.
Mommy and Daddy say they count the mostest.

Whoever suggests that the cost of protecting our nation from EMP would not a huge, huge problem is either ignorant or lying.

An EMP and it´s disastrous impact on the US has been a cause celebre of Newt Gingrich for some time.
Gingrich wrote the forward for a fictional book about EMPs exploding in the US -
One Second After by William R Forstchen.
I found the book to be very thought provoking , even if the plot became too coincidental and unrealistic at times.
Most Americans have no idea what an EMP is or what it´s impact would be on society.

It´s true. But, then, too... neither is the government. A single emp detonation (a nuke) at high altitude over the middle of the USA would be, well- an Armageddon event. Then the illegals from down south really could come in and conquer us with stones.

A Rand study on the aftermath of an EMP attack estimated that 90% of the population would die within the first year, I assume due to starvation. Pretty grim.

Maybe I´m getting way too cynical and conspiratorial but the descriptor ´civilian´ really jumps out at me. I have no doubts that our Governmental structures are protected, as well as our military.

If all of us rubes out here in fly-over country were to suddenly be deprived of so many of the things we take for granted that make our lives easier, not only would we not be able to communicate and organize ourselves readily, but most of our time would need to be spent trying to survive and help our friends and neighbors do the same. In other words, it would keep the majority of The People from being such a pain in the Government´s backside.

As long as I´m going the tin-foil route, I might as well go whole hog. We have commented here before on the re-organizing of our military; the dismissal of long standing traditions as well as people, replaced by more malleable substitutes.

Let me suggest a plot for a new political thriller. A would-be Statist government, having encountered far more resistance to their policies than they expected and with no qualms about killing 25 million or so citizens in order to advance their agenda, makes it clear to any and every one that its civilian society is not protected against an EMP, while quietly making sure that necessary government infrastructure is protected. They explain the details thoroughly, so no one will be surprised ´if´ it happens.

Then, when disaster ´unexpectedly´ occurs, there is barely a hiccup in Government operations; The ´new´ military does not question the necessity for martial law, the peons will be desperate and grateful for Government ´help´, selling their birthrights for bread and water, and those problematic domestic terrorist patriots will have enough difficulty organizing themselves in any numbers that, by the time they do, our new and improved Government will be well entrenched and if they have to drop a bomb or two now and then to clean out the nests of discontent in the less civilized areas of the nation, well, it´s a shame but what else can you do with reactionaries that would destroy what you are trying to rebuild?

A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.

A crowd of 300 angry protestors forced three buses carrying 140 undocumented migrant children and their parents to turn around in Murrieta, California, on Tuesday after they blocked the road. The dramatic confrontation between the flag waving protestors and the Homeland Security buses came one day after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to resist the federal government´s plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border. Holding up banners that said ´Return to Sender´ and suggesting the children should be sent to the White House instead, the irate protestors succeeded when the buses

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama had a bit of a weird moment at the White House tonight during an LGBT reception when the president praised the exquisite work of the White House Executive Pastry Chef and joked if he puts crack in them. A crack joke at the White House. Bet you never saw that coming. The Obamas said they were sad to see Bill Yosses leave the White House. The president said, “His pies––I don’t know what he does, whether he puts crack in them––but…” The first lady quickly jumped in to clarify that no, “there is no crack in our

NEW YORK — Target is asking its customers to not bring firearms into its stores, even where it is allowed by law. In a statement posted Wednesday on the retailer´s corporate blog, interim CEO John Mulligan said that Target wants a "safe and inviting" atmosphere for its shoppers and employees. "Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create," he said. (Snip) A group called Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America gathered nearly 400,000 signatures for a petition asking Target to prohibit shoppers from carrying guns

WASHINGTON – Republicans see the November midterm elections as an opportunity to take the nation on a different path and call for a new conservative message focusing on the problems of regular Americans. During the latest convention of conservative activist Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C., Republicans confidently proclaimed that the GOP has an opportunity to turn back the past six years of President Obama’s administration in the midterm elections. “There’s only one thing to be done in 2014…and that is to take back America by taking back the Senate,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said

Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, has a unique item of herself in her office: a photo of herself with three figurines bowing down in worship in front of it. The photo drew attention after Jarrett´s "Meet the Press" interview Sunday — and Jarrett posted a tweet Tuesday afternoon assuring her supporters the display was simply a novelty item. "Don´t worry friends, it was a gag gift," Jarrett wrote, pivoting to some White House messaging about the economy. "Us strong women don´t need worship," she continued, "just an economy for the 21st century. #WomenSucceed." Business Insider directly

Two Texans may be vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016: Sen. Ted Cruz and Governor Rick Perry. Cruz overwhelmingly won the Texas GOP 2016 convention straw poll, confirming his position as the conservative grassroots candidate. He fires up crowds unlike any other politician today, and the power of motivating voters and volunteers should not be underestimated. But will he run in 2016? The signs point to yes. One of his staffers left his office to start a committee to draft him into running. He has visited the early states and spent many weekends during his first 18 months in office raising

St. Claire Shores, MI -The feminists hadn’t shown up yet, but they could, at any moment, with their protest signs and screaming. The threat of them was an infuriating and exhilarating specter throughout the weekend, a symbol of the oppression facing the men’s rights activists who had gathered to meet for their inaugural conference. Early Friday before the opening session, a wispy trail of men — mostly white, college-through-retirement-age — waited for the doors to open outside of this Veterans of Foreign Wars outpost in suburban Detroit. One man talked about his ex-wife. A lot of guys talked about their ex-wives.

The Obama administration is not too concerned about possible Republican responses to its unilateral administrative actions on immigration. “What that they might sue?” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said laughing when asked Tuesday about possible Republican retaliation for the executive action. “They announced they were doing that last week,” he continued. “So, the prospect that Republicans might do even more to try to obstruct the president’s agenda I think is a little far-fetched. It seems to me they have tried every single thing they can think of already to block progress for this country so the fact that they

Higher education is no longer just for kids in the top quarter or the top half of the class. College is for everyone," First lady Michelle Obama told a gathering of school counselors in Florida on Tuesday. "Every student in this country needs some higher education, whether that´s two-year degree, a four-year degree, or professional training of some sort." Mrs. Obama went to the annual meeting of the American School Counselor Association in Florida to thank counselors for taking on a demanding job without the resources necessary to meet the challenges. They, in turn, made her an honorary school counselor.

Reverend Steve Fielder, a pastor at the First Union Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi, has accused Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran’s campaign of engaging in an illegal and criminal campaign scheme to purchase the votes of black community members. The suspect votes were cast during Cochran’s successful effort to defeat Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi Republican primary run-off held last week. If true, such an action would be clearly illegal under both federal law and Mississippi statutes, specifically MS Code 97-13-1; MS Code 97-13-3 (2013) (Federal Code 18 U.S.C. 597, U.S.C. 1973i(c)), each punishable by a prison
