Ted Cruz and Rand Paul:
Opposite directions

Washington Post, by Jennifer Rubin

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 4/20/2014 4:33:33 PM

In 2013, freshmen senators Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) seemed like two peas in a pod. Both railed at the NSA, backed the government shutdown, opposed intervention in Syria and championed the tea party faithful. But 2014 has been a different story. Cruz has become a serious, vocal proponent of a tough foreign policy and harsh critic of President Obama’s approach to Iran and Russia. He gave serious speeches on the importance of standing up to Vladimir Putin and on the folly of expecting Iran to give away its nuclear weapons program without stringent sanctions and/or the threat of force.

Comments:
If you don´t know this, you don´t know Ted. Getting a bill passed and having 0bama sign it (only to say he won´t enforce keeping Iranian terrorist off our shores), shows that Ted Cruz is listening to the pulse of what America wants & needs.

This is more garbage from Jennifer Rubin and the Washington Post. The Clintons are desperate to divide the Republicans, so that Hillary can have a shot at winning.

Just remember, Grandma Hillary is NOT a strong campaigner. She is boring to the base, and chose to run in New York rather than Arkansas for the US Senate.

Obama had the "cool" factor with the millenials. Ted Cruz has a little, Rand Paul has a bit more. Hillary is not cool, and won´t have any "cool" issues to run on (Obama already destroyed the country being cool with healthcare, civil rights, taxes, college loans, etc).

Younger people want jobs, privacy from government and opportunity. Target those issues, and Hillary will be left with nothing but Obama´s leftovers to serve.

Paul and Cruz are worlds apart on foreign policy; I don´t trust Paul in that regard. But, here´s my take seeing both of them up close and personal. Paul gives a great stump speech, but as a retail politician he is awful. In a personal setting, he is stilted and comes across as disinterested. Cruz has more work to do to get his barn burner speeches down; he´s a little forced in front of a crowd. But, in a small setting he is brilliant. I still like Scott Walker best, but Cruz is moving up in my rankings.

The federal government has found a place in New Mexico to help house the tide of humanity pouring in from Mexico: The Border Patrol Academy, the very facility where agents are supposed to be trained to keep illegal immigrants out of the U.S. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, a sprawling campus in the arid dirt plains of western New Mexico known for oil and dairy farms, could soon house hundreds of children and families that have crossed the southwest border. Meet Leslie Caldwell. President Obama has installed Ms. Caldwell, known as a “terror of a prosecutor,” as head of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice. It has been over a decade since Ms. Caldwell destroyed Arthur Anderson, and with it, 85,000 jobs—only to be reversed by the Supreme Court nine to nothing (well after she went into private practice). Now the president has brought her back—with a big promotion—and the vengeance of DOJ already aimed at Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas and others. Ms. Caldwell and her then right hand man, Andrew Weissmann, viewed businessmen and bankers as “wise guys on Wall Street,”

In the face of rising temperatures, emperor penguins in Antarctica may be forced to find new breeding grounds instead of returning to the same spot to mate year after year, new research finds. Scientists are tracking this climate-driven march by studying the penguins´ poop stains; in satellite images, the birds´ dark droppings against a gleaming white backdrop of ice reveal their every move. Emperor penguins are a philopatric species, meaning they return to the same spot each year to breed. When confronted with rising temperatures and receding ice sheets, however, the penguins may forgo their philopatric nature.

For the first time, a federal appeals court has struck down a state´s ban on same-sex marriage. A three-judge panel of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver voted 2-1 that Utah´s ban is unconstitutional. "We hold that the Fourteenth Amendment protects the fundamental right to marry, establish a family, raise children, and enjoy the full protection of a state´s marital laws. A state may not deny the issuance of a marriage license to two persons, or refuse to recognize their marriage, based solely upon the sex of the persons in the marriage union," the court said.

Military aircraft that conducted air strikes against ISIS military targets in western Iraq are believed to have been from Syria’s air force, a U.S. official told ABC News. Such air strikes would be a regional escalation of the conflict inside Iraq where the Islamic militants have taken over cities in northern and western Iraq and threatened the stability of the Iraqi government. It would also make Syria the second country that has been hostile to the U.S. apparently helping Iraq. There have been reports of Iranian troops intervening on behalf of the beleaguered Iraqi government. ISIS fighters operate on both sides of the Syrian and Iraqi border.

Thad Cochran’s political resurrection began with a campaign shakeup and ended with a Hail Mary television ad. Just three weeks ago, in the dead of night on June 3, the Mississippi senator’s staff sat shaken and dejected, crestfallen at the results of a primary that deprived the six-term incumbent of an electoral majority. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back. Even on that gloomy night of June 3, Cochran adviser Stuart Stevens was insisting to staffers: “We’re

National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.
