37% of Voters Fear
the Federal Government

Rasmussen Reports, by Staff

Original Article

Thirty-seven percent (37%) of Likely U.S. Voters now fear the federal government, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Forty-seven percent (47%) do not, but another 17% are not sure. Perhaps in part that’s because 54% consider the federal government today a threat to individual liberty rather than a protector. Just 22% see the government as a protector of individual rights, and that’s down from 30% last November. Slightly more (24%) are now undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.) As recently as December 2012, voters were evenly divided on this question: 45% said the federal government

Another 40% are too afraid to admit they are afraid. The remainder are in lock step with the regime so aren´t afraid at all.

Las Vegas — I’m writing this column at the Freedomfest Conference, a gathering attended by 2,000 leading movers and shakers of the conservative/libertarian movement. The theme is limiting the power of Big Brother in Washington. The big topic of discussion: Is government so unwieldy and is Congress so broken that the only way to limit government is to change the Constitution? A big faction has concluded: This is our best and maybe only hope. The instigator of the idea is John Aglialoro, a successful businessman who has long been a major funder of free-market causes (he was the financier behind

Louisiana´s 2014 Senate race now has a contract. The question will be who signs on. Echoing a campaign tactic that worked famously for the Republicans in 1994, retired Col. Rob Maness will unveil his "Contract With Louisiana" later today in Houma. Maness acknowledged the Contract With America which helped clarify the Republican message in the 1994 mid-term elections in which the GOP took control of the House of Representatives for the first time in decades was on his mind when crafting his own. A student at Harvard´s Kennedy School of Government right after the Contract With America´s success, Maness said the concept

The South Dakota Republican Party state convention passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of President Barack Obama Saturday. The resolution says Obama has "violated his oath of office in numerous ways." It specifically cites the release of five Taliban combatants in a trade for captive U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl, Obama´s statement that people could keep insurance companies, and recent EPA regulations on power plants. "Therefore, be it resolved that the South Dakota Republican Party calls on our U.S. Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president of the United States," the resolution reads. As the case that resulted in the arrest of a Louisiana mother of two was transferred from one section to another at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, details of the actual suspect were replaced with information about the woman who ended up being wrongfully arrested twice, according to investigative notes from the Public Defender’s Office. Ashley Nicole Chiasson, 28, spent a total of five weeks in Clay County jail after she was arrested for grand theft in January and again four months later for writing bad checks. She was the wrong Ashley Chiasson on both occasions. Clay County Sheriff Rick

As fast as it can, Google is sealing up cracks in its systems that Edward J. Snowden revealed the N.S.A. had brilliantly exploited. Early exposure to air pollution causes harmful changes in the brain seen in autism and schizophrenia, research has shown. The findings in mice follow previous research linking traffic pollution and higher rates of autism in children. As in humans, it was mostly male mice that were affected. Besides suffering physical damage to their brains, they performed poorly in tests of short-term memory, learning ability and impulsivity. In a series of experiments, scientists exposed mice to levels of air pollution typically found in medium-sized cities during the first two weeks after birth. Mice examined 24 hours after their last exposure displayed

The data broker industry, which is lightly regulated, develops profiles of hundreds of millions of people using online and offline sources, such as magazine subscriptions, visits to Web sites, posting on social networking services and purchase histories, the Federal Trade Commission reported. The information sold to marketers can include race, income and homeownership.

It was two weeks before news was reported on the sole child death acknowledged by the Obama administration, Gilberto Ramos, a 15 year-old boy from Guatemala whose body was found in the Texas brush dead from the

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
