Federal Land as a Percentage
of Total State Land Area

Townhall, by Nick Sorrentino

Original Article

Posted By:Judy W., 4/19/2014 7:53:22 AM

The government has no business owning (or administering) all of this land. I am willing to concede federal courthouses and even the national parks to the feds, (even though some of the parks were created as a result of brutal land grabs. Shenandoah National Park which I look out at as I write this is an example.) but why is practically all of the far West run by the Federal Government? Here’s another thing I’ll concede. The feds get a few hundred God forsaken square miles in the northern Nevada desert to do nuclear testing and to dump nuclear fuel. Beyond that? People should own this land.

Comments:
Here´s an amazing map. The federal government really does own most of the west.

I recently saw an interview where the explanation was that, now that dollar is no longer backed by federally-owned gold, the feds feel the need to back the dollar with federally-owned land. The more dollars they print, the more they need the land to prevent the collapse of the dollar.

Overall, the feds own about a quarter of the total US land mass. From a practical standpoint, this limits the productive use of this land by private owners. In addition, it takes it off the tax rolls of local governments--income that those governmental entities traditionally use to fund local schools, local police--in fact, all local services. to address this, the feds make an "allocation" to offset the loss of tax revenue to the local entities, and as such, federal taxpayers are then "redistributing" tax dollars to fund county and municipal government services for places like North Sweatsock County.

Why the West? It´s closer to China, easier to cede to them. For a nominal fee to the politicians, of course.

Yes, but the land has been hypothecated to the Chinese as security for the debt.

And some of it was given to UN control !!!
Time to take it back....although, we need to get on the States to manage it better !!!

There will have to be a lot of coordination between the States on things like "Wildland Fire Control", and leases of the land that need to be equal across States.

Land isn´t all the Federal Government owns. They also own Billions of dollars of under-utilized, or non-used buildings ,as well as Ocean coastal areas. Note there is a crony arrangement underway for a relative of a person in Congress to handle the sale of excess Federal buildings. Is that a sweet deal or what? is that the way you would handle the disposal, or would you accept bids under contract for an unrelated private party to handle the sales in order to maximize the profit, or minimize the loss.
There are 100´s of companies in the U.S. that could handle the sale in a far superior manner. ( I am NOT stating the person who was chosen will NOT do his best, just that everywhere one looks in this Administration, crony capitalism peeks out ). my opinion.

If staff will permit me, and readers are interested, I have a series of articles about The War on the West, the Sagebrush Rebellion, and the history of the federal takeover of Western land at www.zianet.com/web/gardners.htm
You can learn a lot about the history of all this and Harry Reid´s corruption at Electric Nevada, www.newsnet1.com/electricnevada.com

The Middle East, always complex, is descending into a form of chaos that seems baffling. Bringing order to the complexity is Daniel P. Goldman, aka Spengler, writing in Tablet Magazine. A former Wall Street numbers guy, Goldman brings together a lot of demographic data expressed in useful charts, to lay out his case that time is on Israel’s side, and that the Muslims of the Middle East are engaged in a long-term battle, which he likens to the 30 Years War that devastated Europe in the 17th century: The region has seen nothing like it since the Mongol invasion of

Yesterday morning, I reached out to the Brat team to see if they would be making any statement on the situation in Israel today. I forwarded along a link — then hosted at the top of the Drudge Report – to yesterday’s statements by Philip Gordon, the White House’s coordinator for the Middle East, in which Gordon criticized the Israeli government for not currently negotiating with Mahmoud Abbas. President of the Heritage Foundation Jim DeMint stated that the White House is taking a dishonest, indirect approach toward immigration reform. “Greta, I found this statement extraordinarily dishonest,” DeMint said in an interview on Fox News following President Barack Obama’s remarks on immigration in Texas. “So there are so many things I want to respond to, but as we were saying right before he came on, illegal crossings had gone down until 2012. The year before, 6,500 unaccompanied minors had been apprehended. But in 2012, the president did something extraordinary with this DACA executive order, which basically said if you are

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

Ever since President George W. Bush said “Islam is peace” on Sept. 17, 2001, it has been politically shielded from any debate about its effects on its adherents or on the rest of the world. Muslim nations and pressure groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations have used political correctness as a weapon to punish anyone who dared to begin any debate on Islam by calling them “Islamophobes,” an accusation of racism. That era was ended by the lead editorial in the July 5 edition of The Economist, the prominent liberal British news magazine. Titled “The Tragedy of the Arabs,”

In an interview the other day, I was asked what the president might’ve been thinking when he instigated the chaos on our borders with his talk of pen-and-phone amnesty. Half a dozen things went through my mind. Maybe he’s trying some sort of Cloward-Piven maneuver: an attempt to overwhelm our welfare state to the point where we replace it with “a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty.” Or maybe he’s just trying to flood the population with Democrat voters. Or maybe he feels America stole its southland from Hispanic people anyway and it’s up to him to

The Democracy Alliance is not a famous organization, but it deserves to be. The Alliance consists of approximately 100 rich liberals who have taken upon themselves the task of coordinating America’s many left-wing organizations to promote a single radical agenda. The Alliance does not publicize the names of its members, but it held a conference for its “partners” and membership prospects in April, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel (naturally) in Chicago. Someone who attended the conference unfortunately (heh) left his or her copy of the documents passed out by the Democracy Alliance behind, and they eventually fell into the wrong

Back in the heyday of the British Empire, a man from one of the colonies addressed a London audience. "Please do not do any more good in my country," he said. "We have suffered too much already from all the good that you have done." That is essentially the message of an outstanding new book by Jason Riley about blacks in America. Its title is "Please Stop Helping Us." Its theme is that many policies designed to help blacks are in fact harmful, sometimes devastatingly so. These counterproductive policies range from minimum wage laws to "affirmative action" quotas. This book untangles the controversies,

University of North Carolina School of Law’s Professor Gene Nichol is a real opponent of income inequality. That’s why he gets paid $205,400 to teach one class, plus more to run the Poverty Center at the school. Nichol’s noble opposition to income inequality puts him in a class with other great academic class warriors like Elizabeth Warren, who was paid $350,000 by Harvard Law to teach a single course and Clinton’s former Labor Secretary turned inequality campaigner Robert Reich who pulls in $235,791 a year from a public university at UC-Berkeley to teach a course on “Wealth and Poverty” making

With pleasure. The woman on the left is a peaceful American citizen with a husband in the military. She has never killed anybody, and nor does she have any desire to.
