Living in the New York Times World
American Thinker, by J. Paul Masko

I began reading the entirety of the first section of the New York Times at nine years old, and continued that practice, more or less, for decades.(snip) ...the power of reverence, intrinsic to what I call the “cascade” of The Times: the near avalanche-like flow and distribution of information through electronic and print networks: through like-minded network newscasts, magazines, local newspaper s, blogs, daytime talk TV, late-night entertainment, statements at media award ceremonies, the celebrity Twitterverse, etc. The cascade rolls through Saturday Night Live, Jon Stewart, The New Yorker, the mouths of third-grade teachers, Elmo, Madonna and Susan Sarandon …through

FTA: "I’m here to reassure you and to call for a new patriotism of resistance." It is not just the NYT we must resist. We must resist the powers that be in the US Government that are trying to repress us and tax us, viz., Obamacare, into oblivion.

Tea Party stands for "Taxed Enough Already". Our forefathers (Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, et al.) are spinning in their graves.

Very well done, Mr. Masko, but pollyanna.

Calling for mass resistance against the onslaught of the "cascade" sounds good but I believe the reality is that most people, with a few notable exceptions, would rather keep quiet than have to deal with the IRS and EPA stormtroopers and other Leftist governmental harassment experts.

Read the article, then think about the tactics that the GOP establishment is using against conservatives.

Then think about how we can never bow to their tactics, and their name calling.

I have found that when people I meet get their information from the msm and pop culture exclusively all they seem to have is a fully-formed attitude rather than knowledge. They expect me to agree with them and when I don´t they are taken aback. When I give reasons they want to shut the conversation down. They are funniest when discussing Hillary or Sara Palin. When they say they admire Hillary and I ask why they say always say something along the lines of, "She´s a strong, competent, intelligent woman." When I ask for a list of accomplishments, not titles, they go blank. When I say I like Sara Palin their reaction is often apoplectic. I don´t know how many times I´ve heard "Sara Palin is an idiot." When I ask for evidence the old meme about seeing Russia from her porch is cited and I have to always tell them that she never said it. But nothing ever changes their minds.

FTA: "I’m here to reassure you and to call for a new patriotism of resistance.

We need politicians ready to resist the media-government onslaught, people who will look inside themselves and speak honestly from their consciences, no matter the recoil and denunciations from the cascade."

Long article but well worth the time. We all need to have the courage of our convictions and refuse to be silenced. Mr. Bundy´s resistance in the face of extreme government overreach may have been just what we needed to harden our resolve. Silence is no longer an option if we wish to live free.

I seldom call an article "important" but this one really IS important. One might think the influence of NYT had diminished over the past two generations and, to some degree, that is true. Young people today do not do what Masko did as a young man, read the entire first section word for word. In fact, most don´t read it at all. But the establishment press still does take its marching orders from the Times so, by evening when they get their news from Jon Stewart or Huff Po or MSNBC or CNN for that matter, it´s already been digested and handed to them by the Times early that same day.

Actually, there was a time when the NYT was a legitimate paper of record, despite its liberal leanings. But it has devolved over the years into a blatant and shameless propaganda organ for the Democrat Party. Their bias is so obvious now that it is laughable.

I can no longer even bear to read it or the comments by its remaining readers, whose smugness and arrogation of elitism perfectly reflects the mindset of the paper´s columnists. Krugman, Dowd, et al., write with that air of Obama-Mussolini chin-lift that reeks of undeserved superiority.

And my own observation is that the NYT´s "cascade" ends rather abruptly when you stop reading it or following any of its cascadees.

#´s 2 and 4 submit ? Surely you jest. We have not even begun to resist.

The socialist media makes winning a presidential race almost impossible. They are traitors to our country but we are making some progress in keeping our base educated and well informed. We must vote conservative no matter who the presidential nominee is.

We can win state elections, as it is harder for the left to steal and the msm to distort and lie. Vote and educate.

The war of ideas is another area conservatives would win hands down, if not for the msm. We should all help in this process to educate and inform. We have no excuses.

But anyway - - that´ll be the day when gutless Pubbie pols stand up to the NY Times editorial board. It´s kinda tough to be courageous when you´re cowering in the tall weeds.

Don´t expect any opposition at all from the Pubbies.

Masko has described in exciting detail, the "cascade" as he calls it of the NYTimes influence in past years over ALL NEWS!

Thinking, writing, decreeing, monopolizing opinion, that was the Times! And in brilliantly reviewing past events and the Times name calling destruction of certain people like Clarence Thomas and Sarah Palin, Masko has described the phenomena of state controlled propaganda.

Masko has gotten to the core of Marxist propaganda techniques when he shows how the Time OMITS, censors out
news, as it chooses. Vladimir Lenin developed the first state
driven propaganda back in the early 1900´s, and all of his tools of persuading the child like peasants, are in full use today here in America. This elitism is the essence of the promising, not delivering, persuader (liar), Obama.

The only catch, we now have the internet to wash away all censorship of the state, the Drudges, Breitbarts, Luciannes, papers from the UK, anywhere, any time. No more
gatekeepers. Freedom is thriving and coming back to America at lightening speed.
Look at Fox News coverage of the BLM 200 armed attack on the cowboys and families on the Nevada cattle ranch!
None of the networks touched it. Neither did the Times.

When Rush went network, many years ago, he would tell his audience that all the news came from the NYTimes, nobody in radio then, said anything until they first read the Times. Worse, if people wanted you to know that they know everything, their standard was the Times. That´s gone now, the instrument of propaganda is dying fast.

Masko has done a superb job of reviewing it all, even though he soft pedals its closeness, its endless similarity to Communist state propaganda introduced by Vladimir Lenin.
The fanatic religiosity of communism is hauntingly similar to Islamic supremacism, both totalitarian, controlling ideologies.

Our government (both parties) trades legislation for votes and donations. Alot of people in government are getting very rich. Nevermind where the money comes from. Any wonder why the country is in trouble financially and culturally? Is this the way government is suppose to work? There are so many problems and scandals. Our government is so corrupt.

Much of the media covers for our corrupt government so the reader/viewer has to take that into account. At least some in the media sometimes report accurately on the government.

FTA: “If I had to choose an old-man partner for a tag-team fist fight, I might choose John McCain, but I think of him as almost incapable of standing up to certain types of press criticism.”

WHAT? McPain’s claim to fame is his military service, primarily, that as a POW. He became a hero by surviving five years of brutal torture by his captors. By that standard, there are three young women in Cleveland that are twice as qualified after their ordeal. His expertise on torture made forcing terrorist suspects to listen to heavy metal music or to sit in the cold into the equivalent of starvation, beatings, and mock executions. If you want to see worse torture than the terrorists receive at the hands of our government, try defying any of our government agencies. They can inflict mental anguish that has driven citizens to suicide. The press made McPain the darling during the primaries and the devil during the general election, but he still strived to please them, not us.

The bright spot is that the polls are showing that the respect for the press is declining rapidly. The thing that is opening eyes is personal encounters with reality. More debt ridden college grads are unable to find work in that cold, cruel, real world. Family budgets are demonstrating that there is troubling inflation in the necessities of life even if the price of flat screen TVs has gone down. They’re even starting to notice that they needed to bundle up during glowbull warming. Not to mention zerocare fallout.

My favorite quote, “Figures don’t lie, liars figure” is even becoming obsolete because the rat liars don’t even figure, they just blatantly lie. Life is tough teacher, first you get the test, and then you learn the lesson.

don´t read the popular media
don´t watch the popular media
don´t buy the popular media

instead, walk your dog and tend your garden and, additionally, say a few prayers

I bet we´d accomplish more than we know if we did those few things

When are the "dumb" Americans going to realize that Liberal is a euphemism for Communism and Progressive is a euphemism for Socialism?

They either do not know history or they just love being dumb and need Mommy Government to blow their noses and wipe their behinds.

Mr. Masko is saying the similar thing I´ve been saying for some time.

Stop whining and crying, get off your dead behind, read the Constitution on Militias, then the Declaration of Independence and stand up like American Patriots.

Stop staying home and not voting. Stand up like Patriotic Americans or don´t open your mouth whining about how bad things are. They are only bad because "We the People" don´t have the courage of our convictions and allow the Anti-American Liberal Marxist Democrat traitors to win.

Pretty good column BUT it errs in one way: once NYT decided to merge news and opinion, it became trash. This happened during the 1990s and was permanently ensconced by GWB´s presidency.

Of course the "free press" has a long history of bias, the balance comes from different voices, not every voice being balanced or neutral. But there was a time, roughly the end of WWII into the 1980s, when the press tried to be more objective rather than less.

WHY did it change? Hard to say. But as I mentioned, it´s just a return to tradition to have biased sources. It didn´t help that the Columbia School of Journalism decided to teach that there´s "no such thing" as objectivity, everyone has a perspective, but then they taught, "so don´t even try" to be objective. Maroons. The easiest interpretation of why they said that, is that they wanted to push one particular perspective (completely hypocritically), and you can only guess what perspective that is.

#20, thank you for pointing that fact out. A conservative piece that is presented in the NY Times or the Washington Post is more valuable than the same one printed in any conservative publication. Andrew Breitbart had to courage to venture into the opponent’s camp and challenge their policies which earned him hero status here. Jesus went to the sinners because the Saints didn’t require his sermons.

Some of us that post on this site are too willing to use the label RINO if someone strays off their personal reservation. In my above post, I spewed about McPain, but I voted for him in 2008. Although he was not my top choice, he was by far the best for our country in the final election, and I would vote for him again if he were to be the Republican candidate in 2016.

I was enticed to visit this site by an interview you had with Tony Snow and for years I couldn’t sign up to post. I have never been disappointed here, and I continue to be enlightened. Thank you.

This is brilliant and true, all of it. There is one thing to add: the influence of the Soviet Communist KGB and the American Communist Party and its fronts over the years. We have been under attack for decades, and nobody knows how to undermine a society like the communists. See Trevor Loudoun, researcher extraordinaire, on this. http://www.bookwormroom.com/2013/05/27/trevor-loudons-new-book-on-communists-in-american-politics/ -- though many others have covered the issue over the years.

The NYT´s has simply become the Pravda of the Dimocrat party. Nothing more or less. And it´s, in part, because so many of their editors and "journalists" have had as their college professors those who came of age during the 60´s and simply teach how bad the US and how good communism/socialism are. As such they really don´t know anything else and refuse to look realty in the face. They are driven by emotion and not reason. One thing the founders warned against. Re-read the Federalist Papers, especially those written by James Madison.

I can lead the same story with “Democrats find unity at meeting” or “Democrats struggle with divisive issues”: neither is correct or incorrect but they’ll attract and affect readers differently, ....and,“Republicans take tough but necessary stand on entitlements” versus “Republicans once again choose to deprive the needy of food”.~~

Hope everyone reads this entire article!

It’s so sad to read otherwise strong conservatives suggest that we lay down and give up. If I didn’t recognize the screen names, I would suspect trolls. We cannot let fear of retaliation by an overbearing and arguably criminal federal government cause this to be the prevailing attitude.

The Executive is out of control. Congress is too fractured to address the issue, and the Court now simply rubber-stamps the power structure. It’s up to the states to remind Washington, D.C., from where it derives its power.

I don’t mean to get preachy here, but the Framers of the Constitution foresaw this day, and they gave us a method of redress – an Article V Convention of States to propose amendments to the constitution, proposals to reign-in the Leviathan, limited and limiting proposals that would become the law of the land once ratified by 3/4s of the states.

We can do this… or we can lay down and submit. Article V of the Constitution gives the same amendatory authority to the states as it does to Congress, no more, no less. We’ve been given the right tool - at this point, the ONLY tool - for the job, and only a fool would refuse to even try to use it.

There is a Solution as big as the Problem - An Article V Convention of States!

This is a very insular piece. I am mystified why so many here think it´s great. The fact is that the NYT is not a news source and has not been for more than 40 years. It is the fashionable lefty snob arm of the Democrat Party. Very few people outside of the northeast read it and it has long been out of touch with mainstream America. I remember when I was in college and Ronald Reagan became president. The NYT was angry, hysterical, dishonest and downright unhinged as they smeared and tried to destroy him for 8 long years. They failed miserably. Ignore those losers. Carlos Slim will own them soon enough.

Note, no one or group of individuals need fight this battle of resistance.

Nor fear the retaliation of the IRS or EPA. The United States is a limited Republic who has enumerated specific powers to the Federal Government.

To fix the Republic we must demand that our States lead the charge. The States are the only entity with the power to fix and to ignore the IRS, EPA and the rest of the alphabet soup agencies of the Government.

The States must repair the damage done to our Constitution, Bill of Right, and the Federalist papers which enumerate the powers of Government.

Until the States stand up for the people they represent, our goose is cooked so to speak.

don´t spend one penny, minute or second learning what the popular media advocates, and, with luck they will disappear before we do (because that is their intent; they want us to believe that we do not exist).

#34, I will acknowledge that it is more than scary to take a stand, even if you’re not alone. The latest polls show that 67% of Americans want the Congress to continue investigating the IRS - Catherine Englebrecht is not alone. PIAPS is being called to task at her events now by supporters of the Bengazi families – they are not alone. The Bundy ranch is now populated by supporters – they are not alone. George Zimmerman would have been lynched if true justice was not demanded – he was not alone.

The press has tried to keep all these scandals under the radar, but patriots are coming forth to make them more public. As I stated in an earlier post, the Americans have lost faith in the network coverage, so somehow the news is seeping out. I, personally, will not stay silent if some liberal makes snide comments or uses made up facts or figures, and typically they prefer to end the conversation in short order.

I read every post on any thread I post on and I have learned much from this community by means of their thoughts and recommended sources. There are many of my thoughts that I do not openly share because of my fear of falling under suspicion or some form of retribution, and I know that I am not alone in that paranoia. But in the spirit of the founding fathers that put their lives and fortunes at risk to give us this nation, we can hang together or we can hang separately – or if you prefer – united we stand, divided we fall.

Our goal is a noble one, we don’t want power, we just want our freedoms back.

I humbly apologize for this third post.

Masko´s Times "cascade" also known as state driven propaganda is both grotesque lies told and reality not told. The NYTimes is like Hollywood that is controlled its Rule of Silence. Hollywood has not only aided the full propaganda cascades of the Times, Hollywood allows NO films that even mention the word communism or any part of Stalinist Soviet Russia mass murdr and Gulag enslavement. Hollywood front office executives and talent are carefully screened and controlled to silence. In the back lots, here are plenty of free market conservatives in the craft unions, but they are silent, in their work!!
The BLM 200 sharp shooter attack of the Nevada cowboys will not be made into a Hollywood movie. Texas, New Orleans, maybe, some other out of state film hub, but never in Hollywood.
The good news, all this truth is coming out via the internet!

Many of those who advocated for amnesty following the 2012 election are now complaining that people indeed came expecting that amnesty. But there is also an unbelievably bad policy at the root of the problem. The William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 is the awful piece of legislation that is allowing tens of thousands of illegal aliens to be released and remain in America while awaiting “deportation hearings” that we all

At a recent town hall meeting in Edmond, Oklahoma, local citizens gathered to discuss the possible connection between fracking and increased seismic activity in their area. According to one published report, members of the audience left “disappointed” that no consensus had been reached linking fracking and seismic activity. (snip)Clearly, the left is engaged in an all-out effort to smear the oil and gas industry by spreading misinformation and fostering confusion – such as ignoring the difference between fracking itself and wastewater injection. The intent of this effort is to cripple the U.S. economy by depriving it of an efficient and

Is stupidity or malevolence behind the policy of distributing Central American illegal alien children around the country among the general population? After months of collaboration with dozens of family activists, my blogging squad (English Manif) was able to publish a catalog of 300 real-life examples of totalitarian conduct by the gay marriage and gay parenting movement. For the convenience of readers, and to allow for discussion with common reference points, we have numbered the examples. The incidents range from small and episodic things (snip) to the grave and severe, such as #157 (the imprisonment of a young French man for opposing same-sex marriage) or #162 (the hiring of trained provocateurs to infiltrate the French Manif pour Tous).

Anthony Cumia gets attacked all the time: Most often for telling the truth about black crime and violence that is stratospherically out of proportion. And how reporters condone it. On Thursday night, July 3, his bosses at Sirius XM radio fired him for it. “The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, July 3, after careful consideration of his racially charged and hate-filled remarks on social media,” said the suits at Sirius. “Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents.” Cumia was typically defiant: “Sirius decided to cave and fire me,” he

It was headlining AOL on Friday: a story about a woman stabbing a schoolteacher to death in front of a class of five and six-year-olds. On July 2, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that it would not reopen the investigation into the destruction of TWA 800. This was the Boeing 747 that was blown out of the sky ten miles south of the Long Island coast on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 people on board. The TWA 800 Project, a team of former aviation investigators and scientists, had petitioned the NTSB to examine evidence that pointed toward a missile strike on the airline. Not surprisingly, the NTSB, which had invested four years of resources to prove some other theory, any other theory, chose

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
