Judge strikes down Minnesota´s
anti-coal energy law

Star Tribune [Minneapolis, MN], by David Shaffer

A federal judge Friday struck down a landmark 2007 Minnesota law that bans new power generation from coal, saying it regulates business activities of out-of-state utilities in violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Commerce Clause. U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson enjoined the state from enforcing key sections of the law, which North Dakota coal and utility interests said hampered their ability to find buyers for power from existing coal-fired generating plants or to plan for new ones. “It is a complete victory for us,” North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said in an interview.

The second Monday in October will now be referred to as "Indigenous People´s Day," rather than Columbus Day, on all official city communications in Minneapolis following a unanimous City Council vote on Friday morning. The resolution brought hundreds of people to City Hall to commemorate the vote, which Native American activists have been seeking for many years. “It’s been a long time coming," said Clyde Bellecourt, a civil rights organizer. "For me, it’s been almost 50 years that we’ve been talking about this pirate." The language of the resolution notes that the federal government, state government and city government still

Maybe we’ve been conned. There’s a growing recognition that Barack Obama is an incompetent poser, working out of his depth, and his administration is the gang that can’t shoot straight. There’s a lot of evidence to support that belief. Everything he touches becomes a bloody mess, like crushed bones and bits of flesh caught in the tracks of a tank slicing through a rank of soldiers (or civilians). Iraq, Syria, Egypt — all gone, as prospects for countries with a prosperous and democratic future. The “reset” with Russia, meant to ensure that America and the replacement republic of the old

Hillary Clinton continued to justify her high-dollar speaking fees on Friday, telling ABC News’ Ann Compton that all of the money she’s made from colleges over the past year and a half has been donated to her family’s foundation. “All of the fees have been donated to the Clinton Foundation for it to continue its life-changing and life-saving work. So it goes from a foundation at a university to another foundation,” Clinton said when asked about the criticism she and her husband have faced recently for their wealth. Hillary Clinton reportedly makes roughly $200,000 for each speaking engagement. And recent reports show

A charter plane believed to be carrying immigrants arrived this evening at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field, apparently from Texas. Three Homeland Security buses arrived a few minutes later, trailed by numerous law enforcement vehicles. There is no information as to the buses´ destination. Earlier this week, federal officials said that 140 immigrants who had been detained crossing the border in Texas would arrive Friday. But since the blockade by protesters Tuesday at Murrieta, officials have declined to provide information about the movement of the immigrants.

Rep Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) believes the illegal alien children flooding across the border need candy not deportation. Breitbart.com reported: Thursday at a field hearing in Texas pertaining to the surge of unaccompanied minors at the U.S.-Mexico border, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) balked at the suggestion of Homeland Security Chairman Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) that the children filling the border facilities need to be detained and deported by holding up a bag of lollipops to demonstrate her view that compassion not deportation is in order. Referring to the illegal immigrant minors as “homeless children,” Jackson Lee said, “I took lollipops along with

The Vancouver (British Columbia) Board of Education has approved a sweeping new policy for accommodating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer, questioning and “all sexual and gender identities,” including the creation of three pronouns, replacing masculine and feminine with xe, xem and xyr (pronounced ze, zem and zur). Two spirit is an Aboriginal term which means having both feminine and masculine spirits. It´s not limited to gender expression or sexuality, but encompasses them both while incorporating a spiritual element. It´s a standalone identity, not an Aboriginal term for gay lesbian. The Vancouver Board of Education´s policy also includes making restroom and sports

President Obama has, except on fleeting occasions, routinely disdained the customary Oval Office language of compromise and coalition-building for the low arts of sophistry and belittlement. That was to be expected, given his background as a Chicago community organizer and product of that city´s corrupt Democrat political machine. But Obama has far exceeded dismal expectations. No previous American president employed the systematic distortion of fact and mendacious characterization of opponents that have typified Obama´s presidency. His "so sue me" speech last week is a classic illustration of the community organizer practicing Saul Alinsky´s 13th rule: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize

The 81-year-old Joan Rivers and her mouth are back at it again. A street reporter found Rivers Thursday, and, in light of her officiating a gay wedding Monday, asked if she predicted the United States would have its woman president or a gay president first. “Well, we already have it with Obama, so let’s just calm down.” “You know Michelle [Obama] is a tranny,” she added. When asked for clarification she was more politically correct: ”A transgender.” Watch the whole thing here:

Climate alarmism is "the biggest fraud in the field of science" and the 97% consensus claim is nonsensical, Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham tells MRCTV in a preview of his presentation at the upcoming Heartland Institute climate conference, July 7-9. "Since about 2000, I looked farther and farther into it," Col. Cunningham (USMC, Ret.) tells MRCTV in an exclusive interview. "I found that not one of the claims that the alarmists were making out there had any bearings, whatsoever. And, so, it was kind of a no-brainer to come to the conclusion." Cunningham rejects the notion of man-made climate, not

Sources inside MSNBC say former White House Spokesman Jay Carney, who recently resigned from his post at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, will likely be headed to MSNBC. Carney is in talks for a contributor position. If it happens, Carney would follow in the natural footsteps of a few other aides to President Obama who were welcomed into the MSNBC family upon leaving their jobs. The last White House Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, became an MSNBC contributor in May, 2013, while David Axelrod, a top aide to Obama, became one in February 2013. As the rest of America rings in Independence Day, the Obama family have yet another reason to celebrate: Malia Obama´s sweet 16th birthday. The First Daughter, who has recently been in California doing a TV production internship, was just ten years old when her father was first elected President of the United States. And over the past six years, the country has witnessed her grow up into a tall, stylish and mature teen, giving her parents plenty of reasons to be proud. The Obamas will be ringing in the holiday tonight with a Pitbull concert on the South Lawn of the White

The United States added a stunning 288,000 jobs last month, sending the unemployment rate down to 6.1 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average shooting over 17,000 for the first time. June’s job numbers marked the fifth straight month of job gains over 200,000, the best stretch since the 1990s tech boom. A Bloomberg survey of economists expected an increase of 215,000 jobs in June. The unemployment rate dropped .2 percent to 6.1, the lowest since September 2008. May’s job report was also revised upward, showing 224,000 jobs added. The numbers follow strong reports for the Bay State last month, with

The headline of today’s jobs report, that 288,000 jobs were created in the last month, is positive. At least, it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. However, as with most economic reports these days, there is a veneer of good news — but when you look closer, the White House is using the positive headlines to hide the growing deterioration of the American workforce. I’m sure by now people are tired of reading about the bad news, and I’ll admit I am weary of having to blow the whistle and expose the truth every
