Facebook offers to

Facebook is unveiling a new service to let users know when a friend is close by. The company said it had consulted with privacy advocates in government ahead of Thursday´s launch, but the service nonetheless invites criticism from privacy advocates who have worried about the amount of information the social network captures about its users. People will have to opt in to the new Nearby Friends feature, and Facebook is forcing users to affirmatively choose if they want to share details about their movements. Nothing will change for users who don’t assertively turn it on, Facebook said. Jules Polonetsky, executive director of the

Comments:
What could possibly go wrong?? I realize that Facebook has been invaluable in allowing people to get in touch with family and friends. However, there are too many nefarious aspects of it for me. My sister loves it. I have nothing to do with it.

First lady Michelle Obama took her campaign to help veterans find jobs to Fort Campbell, Ky.., Wednesday where she said that most Americans don´t know much about the military. Following comments from Jill Biden, the vice president´s wife and Obama´s teammate in helping veterans, she noted that unlike Biden, she had little familiarity with the military prior to campaigning for the White House in 2008. “Unlike Jill, I wasn´t a military mom. I wasn´t a Blue Star family member. I didn´t know much about the military, and I was probably more like the average American,” said Obama.

Safety concerns about

Two recent deaths and increased emergency room visits in Colorado have highlighted concerns about the safety of legal marijuana edibles. Dr. George Sam Wang of Children´s Hospital Colorado says part of the problem is that the effects of edible marijuana begin more slowly than smokeable pot, though they tend to last longer. "One of the dangers that we´ve been seeing with adult recreational retail use is they´ll take the recommended dose, wait, feel no effects and then continue to stack doses. Then before they know it they have a pretty large amount in their system and then they get potentially pretty severe

ECSU Prof Apologizes for

Professor Brent Terry has apologized for slamming the GOP during a creative writing class lecture at Eastern Connecticut State University earlier this week. During the four-minute rant, captured by one student on audio tape, the professor claimed Republicans do not want Latinos, blacks, young people, or old people to vote. He also warned colleges would start closing if the GOP takes control of both the House and Senate in November. State GOP Rep. Leader Larry Cafero (R-Norwalk) demanded Terry apologize for his offensive harangue “as a point of personal privilege.” Only an hour after Cafero made the request on the House

As midterm elections quickly approach, many are starting to think about voting and potential fraud at the polls. And once again, we find that there is cause to be worried about voter fraud here in the U.S. It appears in a new report that 44,000 people are registered to vote in both Virginia and Maryland. A vote-integrity group crosschecked the voter rolls in the two states and found far too many people registered in both states. The group, known as The Virginia Voters Alliance, is going to expand their research into surrounding states like Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, New York,

Antibiotic-resistant superbug MRSA

Avoiding hospitals, gyms and communal showers isn’t a failsafe against getting infected with MRSA — that’s methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus — a new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests. Instead, researchers tracing a specific strain of the contagious staph infection found that the bacteria has also been breeding in private households, meaning that homes play a “critical role as reservoirs for transmission.” Nature has the scoop: Researchers examined the prevalence of the USA300 strain in northern Manhattan and the Bronx, where it has caused an epidemic of skin and soft-tissue infections in recent years. How bad is President Obama’s foreign policy? So bad he sent Vice President Joseph R. Biden to Kiev to handle the Russia-Ukraine mess. That’s right, Barack “Red Line” Obama called in the bumbling Mr. Biden, the foreign policy “expert” who once called for Iraq to be partitioned by ethnicity into three countries and opposed President Ronald Reagan’s military build-up that ended the Cold War. Uncle Joe didn’t disappoint, saying in Kiev: “Thank you for making me feel relevant again.” He, of course, left empty-handed, and perhaps, again, feels irrelevant. This comes on the heels of Jeb Bush’s recent interview: Earlier in April, former Florida governor Jeb Bush suggested that illegal immigrants are not committing a felony, but are breaking the law out of love and commitment to family. “It’s an act of love. It’s an act of commitment to your family,” Bush said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.” Although the article simply refers to them as “faith leaders,” they are all part of the same group that has been working

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of net neutrality’s death have been greatly exaggerated in the past. But this time, it may actually be true. The New York Times is reporting that the Federal Communications Commission is proposing new rules that would allow internet service providers to charge large content providers to faster access to users, effectively killing the existing system that ensured equality for all. The move is a reversal for the FCC, which previously aimed to keep net neutrality in place even after a federal appeals court ruled in January that internet providers were allowed to make preferential service deals

Young adults who smoke marijuana may be at risk for serious or even fatal heart problems, according to a study by French researchers on Wednesday. The findings in the Journal of the American Heart Association raises new concerns about the safety of marijuana, just as many parts of the world are relaxing laws on its use and medicinal marijuana is gaining popularity for treating certain health conditions. The risk of heart complications appeared small in the study, which included nearly 2,000 people who sought medical attention for complications related to marijuana from 2006 to 2010. Of those, two percent, or 35 people, had

Public Trust: Sixty-one percent polled say President Obama lies "some of the time" or "most of the time" on matters of national importance. Americans have to ask: Why do we let him get away with it? It´s no surprise that a Fox News poll of 1,012 registered voters last week found immense distrust of a president whose main domestic initiative was based on a lie. The shock is that the same poll found his disapproval level down to its lowest since last fall. Asked, "How often do you think Barack Obama lies to the country on important matters?" 37% replied "most of

Former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) said a number of junior GOP senators considering a presidential run in 2016 do not yet have the experience — specifically naming Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas). The former 1996 GOP presidential candidate sounded particularly skeptical of Cruz in an interview this week with The Wichita Eagle. Jeb Bush said Wednesday he´s "thinking about running for president," in his most direct statement yet about a possible 2016 run. The former Florida governor spoke at a Catholic school benefit in New York Wednesday morning. He previously has said he´ll make a decision on whether to run for president before the end of this year, making clear that he was considering the possibility. But his comments on Wednesday appeared to be more direct. Asked what his "immediate plans" were, he said, according to an attendee: "I´m thinking about running for president." Sotomayor’s 58-page dissent, joined by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, has one theme: Race matters. But he found an adversary in Bob Beckel, who challenged the status quo by presenting actual data on the rise of CO2 levels from NASA, of all places. But before Beckel got to his chart, Bolling took some time to “praise” President Barack Obama for what

Nearly a dozen states have quietly signed onto a plan to effectively ditch the Electoral College and instead, award the White House to the candidate that wins the popular vote. The National Popular Vote agreement would take effect if states that represent 270 electoral votes all commit. Without the Electoral College, FoxNews.com digital politics editor Chris Stirewalt said we would have had a whole different trajectory of presidents. If presidents are selected through the
