Minnesota cult leader charged

A minister who dressed like Jesus and presided over virgins he called the "maidens" faces 59 counts of criminal sexual conduct involving underage girls he allegedly abused for years at a Minnesota religious camp. Fugitive Victor Arden Barnard, 52, is believed to be somewhere near Seattle or Tacoma, authorities said. A nationwide warrant has been issued for his arrest. The self-proclaimed "messiah" ran a compound in Minnesota´s northern Pine County, where ministered to a group of women and girls he referred to as "maidens." For several years, he routinely abused two girls sent to live with him at the ages of 12 and

I love that the first few words of the story mention that "he dressed like Jesus" in a ham handed attempt to paint this deviant as one of those nutty Christians! A quick look at the photos accompanying the article clearly show him dressed as anybody BUT Christ. Nice try, though

Who are we to question his lifestyle? If he can stay on the lam for a few years (and a few well chosen judges) this will probably be legal, too.

Gladys Lopez allowed her four year-old illegal immigrant daughter to travel to the US. Now she can’t find her. The Obama administration lost track of the little girl. Gladys Lopez spoke with her daughter briefly after she made it across the international border. What happened to the girl remains a mystery. The four-year-old girl is just one of thousands who have been taken into custody by border patrol agents.Gladys Lopez says she was able to speak with her daughter, Eliana, briefly over the phone after she was taken into custody. President Obama has quietly promised Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren complete support if she runs for president — a stinging rebuke to his nemesis Hillary Clinton, sources tell me. Publicly, Obama has remained noncommittal on the 2016 race, but privately he worries that Clinton would undo and undermine many of his policies. There’s also a personal animosity, especially with Bill Clinton, that dates from their tough race six years ago. A former Harvard law professor and administration aide, Warren would energize the left wing of the Democrat Party just as Obama did against Clinton in 2008. Thanks to her outspoken stand against big banks

You’ll have a hard time finding any mention of it in the left-wing mainstream media, but last Saturday former U.S. President James Earl Carter flew into the northern Russian city of Murmansk on a Gulfstream private jet for a little luxury fishing expedition (Russian-language link). It seems Mr. Carter would like to do all he can to legitimize Russian aggression in Ukraine, and if he can combine doing so with a gold-plated vacay, so much the better. At almost the same moment, Ukrainian government troops were triumphantly raising the national flag over City Hall in the Eastern Ukraine city of Slaviansk,

MURRIETA, Calif. — Suddenly, this city in the desert has become the place that turned away the immigrants. When the three busloads of immigrant mothers and children rolled into town for processing at a Border Patrol station this week, they were met by protesters carrying American flags and signs proclaiming “return to sender” as they screamed “go home” and chanted “U.S.A.” Fearing for the safety of the migrants and federal officers, immigration officials decided to reroute the buses to San Diego, an hour south. And a day after many here celebrated what they saw as a temporary victory, more than a thousand

The Declaration of Independence is the birth certificate of the American nation—the first public document ever to use the name "the United States of America"—and has been fundamental to American history longer than any other text. It enshrined what came to be seen as the most succinct and memorable statement of the ideals on which the U.S. was founded: the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; the consent of the governed; and resistance to tyranny. But the Declaration´s influence wasn´t limited to the American colonies of the late 18th century. No American document has had a greater impact

HOUSTON — Rocky Carroll was inside his cluttered boot shop here on Tuesday, watching television as the dusty ceiling fan jangled. Dolly Parton’s white boots were behind him. President George W. Bush’s cigar-color alligator boots were by the front door, next to President Ronald Reagan’s Italian calf. A fly swatter was within reach. Then Mr. Carroll heard the bad news: Gov. Rick Perry had recently announced that he had given up on cowboy boots. The governor, who had appeared on the cover of Newsweek in 2010 with boots emblazoned with the Texas battle cry “come and take it,” said he had

Waffles and pancakes: Everyone thanks Belgium for their delicious waffles, and by all means, we Americans commend them. But half of the wonder of waffles is the glorious mess you can put on top of it. It’s not just syrup anymore. You can thank Americans for the massive globs of heavy whipping cream, chocolate chips, bananas, walnuts, cheesecake filling and coconut shreds. We’re not fat. We’re happy.(Snip for photo) 2. Patience and reliability are the defining characteristics of successful leadership in the Senate. Good Senate majority leaders work through the rules of the Senate, which protect minority rights, to find a way to please a majority (or possibly a supermajority) of senators and move legislation and nominations to passage. They keep their commitments to open debate, even when their partisan colleagues would prefer to use simple majority power to crush the minority and avoid tough votes or compromises. The Senate once prided itself on being “the world’s greatest deliberative body.” That it no longer is. According to the Congressional Research Service,

When the German botanist Philipp von Siebold sent a variety of plant specimens to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew in August 1850, he had no idea what he was unleashing on the world. Among the various floral and tuberous growths he dispatched was a plant which, 164 years later, is leaving a trail of mayhem all across the planet. It goes by the name of Japanese knotweed, or Fallopia japonica. It presents a pleasing appearance to the eye: heart-shaped leaves, bamboo stems and pretty, little white-flower tassels. The vast majority of 50,000 unaccompanied youths and children who have illegally crossed the Texas border during the last few months have been successfully delivered by federal agencies to their relatives living in the United States, according to a New York Times article. Would you buy a bargain-priced airline ticket, but the catch was you had to stand for the entire flight? A new university study says the idea of standing-only sections on planes is no joke. An airline that removes seats can fit about 20% more passengers and, as a result, offer discounts of as much as 44% compared with airlines that offer big comfy seats, according to the study published in the International Journal of Engineering and Technology. Airlines in Ireland and China have looked into the concept, but none have yet put the idea into practice. Major carriers in the

Scientists believe the gene that causes red hair is an evolutionary response to cloudy skies and allows inhabitants to get as much Vitamin D as possible. But if predictions of rising temperatures and blazing sunshine across the British Isles turn out to be correct, flaming red heads could cease to exist within centuries. While only 1% to 2% of the world’s population are ginger, in the north of the UK, where the weather tends to
