Economy VP: Socialist economic

"The economy and the social aspects are indivisible to us," commented on Tuesday the Minister of Petroleum and Mining Rafael Ramírez. "We are moving towards the creation of a different system," he added. Regarding the government´s so-called economic offensive, Ramírez stressed their new approach will focus on "production sectors so as to produce our own supplies and food." "Our economy has been under attack, and we will not wait until next year to take action; on the contrary, we have created a new exchange system, we have opened up new ways to allow the inflow of dollars," he stressed. Ramírez underlined that Venezuela´s

Comments:
In the sense that it controls everything and has smothered all other models, yes, but in terms of improvement, what a joke. Venezuela is a shambles, one step behind Cuba. How very typical of commies to insist they are successful.

Forget toxic waste dumps, the Environmental Protection Agency apparently has a more immediate cleanup problem in its own backyard: An employee defecating in the hallway. GovernmentExecutive.com, the government´s business news daily and key website for federal managers and executives, reported Wednesday that the EPA management for Region 8 in Denver sent an e-mail earlier this month to staff pleading to stop inappropriate bathroom behavior, including defecating in the hallway. In the e-mail, obtained by Government Executive, Deputy Regional Administrator Howard Cantor noted "several incidents" in the building, including clogging the toilets with paper towels and "an individual placing feces in the hallway"

CHAPPAQUA – New Castle police continued their investigation Monday into the defacing of a sign outside the Chappaqua Public Library promoting an upcoming book signing by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Lt. James Wilson said police had not made any arrests. The sign was posted outside the library on South Greeley Avenue to promote the weekend appearance of Clinton, a Chappaqua resident. But someone wrote across the sign in large red letters the word, "Benghazi," police said. It refers to the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya. Emigration: Central American leaders have taken to lecturing the U.S. on the care and feeding of the tens of thousands of their emigrants who have suddenly flooded our southern border. Have they no shame? Apparently they don´t, though the Spanish language has a very strong word — sinverguenza — for such gall. Start with Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez. After 37,049 of his countrymen were repatriated by the U.S. after fleeing in 2013, he told Fusion: "I´ve asked the United States government to treat this matter with the utmost care from a humanitarian perspective. BEIJING, June 21 — Animal lovers provoked an angry backlash from residents of a Chinese city after protesting a controversial festival today in which locals celebrate the summer solstice by eating dog meat, witnesses and media said. Activists have flocked for weeks to Yulin, in the southwestern region of Guangxi, to protest the local custom of eating dog—particularly on the summer solstice, which fell today, in an event dubbed the “dog meat festival”. But their efforts have backfired. “A lot of people have said, ‘I don’t eat dog meat, but just because of these idiots, I will go buy dog meat

VATICAN CITY -- Pope Francis came out strongly against the legalization of recreational drugs on Friday. The pontiff told members of a drug enforcement conference meeting in Rome that even limited attempts to legalize recreational drugs "are not only highly questionable from a legislative standpoint, but they fail to produce the desired effects." Francis has frequently railed against the "evil" of drug addiction and has met with addicts on several occasions. Just last month, Uruguay -- next door to Francis´ native Argentina -- approved selling marijuana cigarettes in pharmacies, and recreational marijuana is legal in the U.S. states of Colorado and

WASHINGTON – Approval of President Barack Obama’s handling of immigration has dropped to 31 percent, while 65 percent of people surveyed by Gallup disapprove of his immigration policies. That was the result of a study published Friday by Gallup, which also indicates that disapproval of Obama’s immigration policies has increased 10 percent since the last time the same survey was taken in August 2013. Since Gallup began taking the poll, never has it come up with such a high disapproval rating, and only in 2010 was approval lower than 31 percent.

The number of unaccompanied children from Central America into the U.S. has reached 47,000 since October, and may hit 90,000 by the end of this year. The official story is that they are fleeing drug-gang mayhem and political violence in their home countries, and so are refugees and asylum-seekers. But the Guatemalan ambassador has said they are seeking economic opportunity and the “American dream.” It’s hard, however, not to see a connection with Obama’s 2012 Deferred Action for Arrivals Program, which defers deportation for illegal aliens who are minors. Obama enacted by executive fiat––and just recently extended for 2 years––this

With a surprisingly wide margin of victory, Congressman James Lankford won the Oklahoma Republican U.S. Senate primary, defeating former Speaker of the State House of Representatives T.W. Thad Cochran’s political resurrection began with a campaign shakeup and ended with a Hail Mary television ad. Just three weeks ago, in the dead of night on June 3, the Mississippi senator’s staff sat shaken and dejected, crestfallen at the results of a primary that deprived the six-term incumbent of an electoral majority. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back. Even on that gloomy night of June 3, Cochran adviser Stuart Stevens was insisting to staffers: “We’re

Lois Lerner, the controversial director of the tax-exempt organizations division at the Internal Revenue Service, has a long sordid history of targeting conservatives. Under the direction of Lois Lerner, the Federal Election Commission sued the Christian Coalition in the 1990s. She harassed the Christian Coalition for three election cycles. Eventually, she lost her case. At one point Lerner even asked a targeted conservative if Pat Robertson prayed over him. (Sound familiar?) National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.

Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections. This sober realization came to Democrats on Wednesday, as Tuesday night’s primary results showed they cannot count on Tea Party candidates upsetting more-electable incumbents. And Democrats are increasingly realizing that President Obama’s approval rating will probably remain mired at 45 percent or lower until

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has had a rough time of it ever since she asserted that both she and her husband were “dead broke” and “struggled” after leaving the White House in 2001. “A few weeks before they left the White House, the Clintons were able to muster a cash down payment of $855,000 and secure a $1.995 million mortgage,” Politifact observed. “This hardly fits the common meaning of ‘dead broke.’” Clinton might have taken the public backlash over this minor gaffe in stride, but she didn’t.
