Unfinished Business Complicates
Clinton’s Diplomatic Legacy

New York Times, by Mark Landler & Amy Chozik

WASHINGTON — It was a simple question to someone accustomed to much tougher ones: What was her proudest achievement as secretary of state? But for a moment, Hillary Rodham Clinton, appearing recently before a friendly audience at a women’s forum in Manhattan, seemed flustered. Mrs. Clinton played an energetic role in virtually every foreign policy issue of President Obama’s first term, advocating generally hawkish views internally while using her celebrity to try to restore America’s global standing after the hit it took during the George W. Bush administration. But her halting answer suggests a problem that Mrs. Clinton could confront as she

Benghazi and treason are her legacy.
No amount of propaganda will wash the blood away for the Butcher of Benghazi.
The Ghosts of Benghazi will haunt her and Obama the rest of their lives on this earth and follow them into Hades.

Sorry, gang, I hadda quit after the snortworthy wet kiss in the second para: "Mrs. Clinton played an energetic role in virtually every foreign policy issue of President Obama’s first term, advocating generally hawkish views internally while using her celebrity to try to restore America’s global standing after the hit it took during the George W. Killary should have just blurted out "Benghazi!" at that interview. Then she could have gone on to tell us everything she did to avert that tragedy. [She could have spared us the part about her and Obama delivering political speeches while perched like vultures on the caskets as they arrived at McGuire.]

‘Immigrants bring disease’ is an old prejudice, but it turns out some of the thousands of children streaming across the border have brought H1N1 with them. Here’s something you don’t hear a journalist say very often: I blew it. I was wrong. I dismissed out of hand the suggestion by anti-immigration activists and right-wing pundits that among the worries associated with the “border kids”—the estimated 52,000 children and teenagers who have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in the last year or so—was that they carried communicable diseases. “How original” was probably my first thought. Immigrants and fears about disease go together like beans and

The defiant Mississippi loser

It’s been a week since Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) won the Mississippi Republican primary, but not if you ask Chris McDaniel. The failed Senate challenger hasn’t conceded to the six-term incumbent, and shows no signs of doing so anytime soon. Instead, the state senator is looking into legal routes to challenge the 6,693-vote margin he says was orchestrated through, at best, illegitimate voter targeting, and at worst through illegal vote-buying. Mississippi has no statute to force a recount, so McDaniel’s only recourse to challenge the outcome of an election that conservatives have widely panned is through legal means. He and his supporters

DENVER – “A disaster in the making.” That’s just one way Secretary of State Scott Gessler describes Colorado’s new $58 million computerized accounting system. The computer endeavor is called CORE (Colorado Operations and Resource Engine). State agencies have been told to start using it Tuesday, July 1. However, internal documents obtained by FOX31 Denver show the system isn’t even close to ready and won’t work as planned. If you receive any state benefits, pay fees or taxes, or are a vendor who does business with Colorado, this does affect you. It’d be tough to find an accountant for any state

Lois Lerner Targeted Chuck Grassley After

Ex-Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner tried to audit Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley after Grassley blocked President Obama’s nominee to head the Department of Justice (DOJ) tax division, an executive branch insider told The Daily Caller. Grassley made it more difficult for the IRS and DOJ to work together to target conservative groups by blocking Obama’s political appointee Mary L. Smith from taking over the DOJ Tax Division, which prosecutes criminal cases for the IRS. Grassley held up the nomination in early 2010, just as Lerner and fellow IRS officials were mapping out their targeting strategy. The White House later withdrew

Sad to say, the Obama administration seems clueless about what might be broken at the VA and how to fix it. Either that, or it is just cravenly saying and doing whatever it thinks is necessary to make the story go away. Evidence for the clueless hypothesis came on Friday, when White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rob Nabors weighed in with his diagnosis (pdf) of what ails the VA. The document is extraordinary in its contradictions, sloppy formulations, and non-evidence-based conclusions. It starts off well enough by reporting “a strong sentiment among many Veterans and stakeholders that in general VA provides

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is on a national tour to promote her new memoir, "Hard Choices." But her journey has been unusually bumpy. Her recent gaffes about being "dead broke" or supposedly unlike the "truly well off" have made people wonder if she´s really in touch with ordinary Americans. And then there´s a legal case from her past cited in her book that makes one question whether she violated the attorney´s sacred oath to never betray a client´s secrets. The attorney-client privilege and its corollary duty to zealously advance the interests of even guilty clients form the very

Once it became clear that the U.S. men´s national soccer team would be facing Belgium in the World Cup, waffle-loving Americans fell (or, perhaps, were unwittingly pushed) into a sharp divide between deliciousness and patriotism. Belgium, as we noted today, is cherished for many great things. Perhaps, the most well-known and celebrated — gluten be damned — is the Belgian waffle. But as the game approached, affinity for Belgian waffles transformed into the modern day analogue of "Freedom fry" patriotism, putting the breakfast regular under assault. Leading the way, was that great staple of the American South, Waffle House, which

The waves of rockets from Gaza and IDF retaliations have picked up since the teens were kidnapped and the Israeli crackdown began. Hamas has not claimed responsibility for launching the rockets but Israel holds them responsible for everything coming out of Gaza. The Israel Defense
