86M Full-Time Private-Sector Workers
Sustain 148M Benefit Takers

Buried deep on the website of the U.S. Census Bureau is a number every American citizen, and especially those entrusted with public office, should know. It is 86,429,000. That is the number of Americans who in 2012 got up every morning and went to work — in the private sector — and did it week after week after week. These are the people who built America, and these are the people who can sustain it as a free country. The liberal media has not made them famous like the polar bear, but they are truly a threatened species. It is

Hold on here. If I am following the math correctly, he is lumping together people receiving Social Security, people who worked their entire lives and are used up and retired, along with the deadbeats who live on welfare and who have never worked a day in their lives. I object.

The 87 million full time workers aren´t "enduring" the seniors. EVERYBDY is "enduring" the welfare recipients. If you are retired, you carried the welfare recipients your entire working life. And if you pay income tax on your pension and social security payments, you are STILL carrying a welfare recipient around on your back. The social security recipients are NOT the problem.

I disagree with #2. I worked all my life and was forced to pay into SS. Now you think I´m not "entitled" to get at least some of my money back that I paid in? I could have made a lot more if I was allowed to invest that money myself, but FDR said no. So, screw all those who think we don´t deserve to get at least some of our money we were forced to give to the government.

On average, SS recipients get their money back and a little bit more. It is as if they put their money in the SS account and earned 2% over their lives. They would have earned much more if they had just put it in the bank.

And thus, #4, the cycle will continue until the entire house of cards collapses.

I am 57. I, too, have worked all my life. But I did not "pay-in" to Social Security. That money was stolen from me by the criminals in D. C. It was stolen and spent as quickly as they took it in. I no more expect to get it back from them than I would to get my wallet back after a mugging.

No, you will not get back what you "payed-in". That money was squandered long ago. You will get money that is stolen from your children and grandchildren and given to you to purchase your support for this immoral, corrupt, Ponzi scheme. We are conservatives only until it costs us; then we bow down to our federal overlords and take the government largesse just like everyone else.

When will we say enough?

Last sentence of the article:

"Eventually, there will be too few carrying too many, and America will break."

Eventually.

He missed saying that it takes at least four private-sector workers to pay the wages of every equally paid public-sector employee. Without even counting the capital expenditures.

Eventually we won´t be able to keep up with it and we will keep going deeper into debt.

Eventually.

I worked many years and my wages were ´confiscated´ to pay (FICA/SS). We were told it was a ´Social Contract´, and OUR money was put in an account to pay for OUR retirement. The only problem was our Elite Political, and Bureaucratic Classes, moved the goal posts in the middle of our games. Something they seem to be able to do with aplomb.
Now we are faced with the problem verbalized by Margaret Thatcher [paraphrased] "... Socialism is fine til they run out of other peoples money..."

People who WORKED and paid into various systems to receive benefits later on are NOT takers. They receive S.S. or Medicare or pensions based on past payments they made. The only TAKERS are those who have never paid in ANYTHING and who still do not, they only WITHDRAW, from other people´s taxes. If it is a temporary situation that is fine to be helped with, but if it a lifetime situation that CAN or COULD HAVE been avoided, that should be on their OWN shoulders.
here is a perfect example - drug addicts, of their own volition, are taken care of on health insurance policies, but people who require eyeglasses, hearing aids, etc are mostly not. This is an A** Backwards system.
My own earnings should go to pay for MY eyeglasses, not someone else´s drug problem that they incurred on their own due to their lack of responsibility or accountability.

While the depiction of SS and Medicaid recipients as "takers" is misguided it does not alter the fact that those who work for the private sector now must support 1.7 people who do not.

While I would consider SS/Medicaid as an obligation which must be honored to our ability (second in line only to our veterans in my book, but way ahead of the lazy and illegal)the fact is SS was NEVER set up as an individual account, it was always going to be paid for by your children and grandchildren. The sustainability of the program was dependent on an ever expanding workforce and economy and on a relatively stable retiree population.

Neither of those two assumptions was ever realistic, but even so SS could attain relative stability with minor tweaking which would not seriously deprive our retirees. SS was always modeled like insurance, todays payments dependent on todays premiums. In government, just like in the dreaded private sector where real world rules apply, if the insurer goes bankrupt, the insured´s claims stop getting paid. The bigger stinkbomb is the ever increasing size of the non working and non contributing population. They still get paid despite never paying a premium.

No amount of tweaking will ever offset the drain that puts on those who work and ultimately on the ability of our children and grandchildren to fund the SS obligations of us, the boomer generation.

Don´t forget, also, that for those who paid in all their working lives, their employer matched that amount. SS recipients certainly shouldn´t be lumped in with the welfare recipients.

L-dot rules do not permit directed responses, and there is not enough room here to allow for a rebuttal to some of the above posts, however, a few points need to be made----

Social Security is an annuity, and Medicare is a health insurance policy!
The difference between them and other policies is that a person working in the private sector is REQUIRED to "pay into"

Having paid into S.S. since I was a teenager, and Medicare since it´s inception, you´re Da*n right I feel entitled to use them!

As for people collecting being considered hypocrites, please show me anyone who is "entitled to" collect their largesse, or does not have other health insurance, yet will not use Medicare---I have a bridge for sale and would like to speak with them!

I think a common misconception is that the money working people have taken out of their paycheck as social security is being used for the folks who are retired and drawing social security. There are lots of disabled people drawing social security checks as well. Autism, bipolar disorder, bad backs and other conditions that prevent people from working also entitle folks to social security payments.

It’s one thing to take care of illegal immigrants who come to America and are under the age of 18 (before sending them back), and it’s another to burn through taxpayer money rolling out the red carpet. From the Gateway Pundit: The Obama administration has awarded a $50 million contract to a charitable group to buy a Texas resort hotel and transform it in to a 600 bed facility for juvenile illegal aliens. That resort hotel? The Palm Aire Hotel and Suites in Weslaco, Texas – a generously acommodated resort with such amenities as an outdoor swimming pool (pictured above).

In 2012, I alerted the federal government to the growing problem of unaccompanied minors making the treacherous journey across Mexico to reach the United States. At that point the minors could annually be numbered in the hundreds or thousands. In recent months, tens of thousands of children have come across the border and are now housed in federal facilities across the U.S., the result of failed federal policies and Washington´s indifference to securing the border. I visited one of these facilities in June and saw these children, frightened and alone, who left their homes and families, survived a harrowing trip, and
