Progressive Insurance
National Review Online, by Victor Davis Hanson

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 4/15/2014 10:08:10 PM

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.

Comments:
This is one of his best. It really is quite disturbing when you see all of these endless examples of the utter hypocrisy of the left and they suffer nothing because of it. Progressive insurance indeed. That was a clever headline.

This essay is one of VDH´s most trenchant.

Some forty years ago on SNL we had a good laugh at Garrett Morris´s murderous jailbird character who sang, "I´m gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whiteys I see...." That clip is still funny today--I used to sing it myself for a laugh--but if any white comedian tried to turn that skit around, he´d be an instant pariah.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGBw8jS3sMw (SNL)

Think of Camus character Meursault in the novel L´Étranger, who killed an Arab in Algiers, and awaits the crowd´s "howls of execration" as his execution is about to take place. In this world a lot of senseless evil is overlooked, but not all.

The problem with this double standard of behavior is that we´ll be left with more Mumia Abu-Jamals and OJs, guilty as hell with no fear of the Green Room at San Quentin because of the P.C. coat of armor that protects black racists. If the legal system or the moral system of social punishment of bigotry is corrupted, inevitably people will resort to other measures. And that won´t be pretty.

Victor Davis Hanson brilliantly expounds on today´s progressives.

This whole essay can be boiled down to one phrase: It´s not what´s done, it´s who does it.

This column by Victor Davis Hanson is a powerful one, chockfull of specific, documented examples of media lopsidedness when it comes to liberalism over conservatism. Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, Socialists, Communists et al are issued ‘Get Out Of Jail Free’ cards just for showing up. Conservative Republicans? Not so much! Correction! Make that Never! When a leftist enters a competition, the outcome is rigged. Count on it!

The very overbearing government the U.S. was designed to prevent has parasitized America, and we Americans seem to be unable to free ourselves from the parasites.
A Second American Revolution, or at least secession, seems the only way out of this terminal tyranny.

Great article...it would be infuriating if we all weren´t so aware. Instead, as I read it I just felt that familiar cynical contempt I have for all that garbage, day in and day out. I would add another insurance, just as important: dirt on the opponents. How better to insure their cooperation when they need a little "reminder push" in the left direction? And how else to explain John Roberts?

What this is really saying is what many of us have known for so long - "racism" "sexism" "polluting the planet" etc are all just clever ruses and mean absolutely nothing, in the end, to the Left. All that matters is the socialism. Vote for that, and your sins are forgiven. This is why trying to Gotcha! them with hypocrisy is pointless - they know full well how dishonest they are, but it´s the price they pay in order to reach their goal. It´s all about silencing the opposition to Our Glorious Socialist Future, nothing else.

It´s not about any ism except Fascism which Jonah wrote so brilliantly about. The Left will use any ism and thought meme to exert control over the masses; it´s all about power - global warming, racism, sexism, healthcare, higher taxes, food stamps, etc., are just means to an end, i.e., total control over our lives.

Our Founding Fathers understood this and it is why they gave us the First and Second Amendments.

How is it that senator Harry Reid can stand before his colleagues and announce to the world that presidential candidate Romney did not pay taxes for 10 years? Facts be damned..

In Reid´s case, it´s not necessarily "just politics." It might well be a serious character flaw.

Ted Cruz doesn´t have any progressive insurance. He´d better be careful saying things like, ´´If you say ´Joe Biden,´ you don´t have to have a punchline.´´ He claims that if you walk into a party all you have to say is ´´Joe Biden,´´ and everyone will laugh.

Mark Twain said, ´´Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand.´´ Cruz, Twain, and Hanson use that weapon well.

In studying American History years ago, I recall that there were times during the expansion of the US, especially the wild west, that vigilante committees were formed in order to provide "justice" to the hard working citizens. In todays world, where are the vigilantes when we desperately need them? I don´t want to go on a rampage, just remove those who are causing so much damage to our country. Or we could call the vigilantes revolutionists instead.

Along with others here, i marvel at VDH´s skillful exposure of the Left´s hypocrisy.

I´d like to add something to #15´s excellent post:

My guess is that most of us here were taught precepts and morals and a strong sense of the difference between Right and Wrong, and that choices are between good and evil, right and wrong and not merely choices beween "relative" options having no eternal or even just long-lasting consequences.

I remember reading about a survey maybe 15-20 years ago, where high school students were asked if the NAZIs were wrong in their treatment of the Jews. A majority said "Who am I to judge?"

This was horrifying to me because those children and those who followed, would soon be the voters and policy-makers and jurors and judges;

they´d be the journalists and writers and musicians, the opinion-makers and style-setters;

and, they´d be the parents and teachers and pastors.

Rome did not fall in a day. The corruption was within the body politic. Moral corruption and "failure of nerve" (as ancient historian JB Bury said of the Greeks) putrefy the innards.

Hypocrisy/schmypocrisy???
Were fascists or commies hypocrites? And keep in mind, it took fascists and commies only couple of years to recruit thousands and millions of torturers and sadistic murderers. I am not even talking about dirty mouths of obozo, his department heads and butt lickers in media, hollywood and bureaucracy.
We are facing totalitarianism on the grand scale, forget about petty stuff.
Btw, about morals - again, fascists and commies. It went so fast there that no morals slowed it down. Although, Germany was "highly" cultured nation, and Russia was very religious.

The first "insured" guys were Don Rickles and Jackie Mason.
Both truly funny, timeless guys, Jews who could make fun of other Jews. Anybody else try it, it was anti semitism, end of story. These two heroes broke down the rules of prejudice .
Their insurance was, still is, that they were Jewish. What anti defamation leader is going to call those two outspoken guys
the bad name of anti semite? Nobody. They broke the otherwise rigid rules that anybody saying anything against Jewishness was accused, judged and convicted, automatically as being a fanatic FOR the Holocaust. That whole thing was overdone and it wore out.

Now, we have newer agitators, Sharpton style, who are now wearing out the branding of any chosen victim as a "racist". It, too, has worn down, and is almost meaningless. Only the commie acting agitators use baiting words today. Divisive, right out of the early 1900´s Leninist state propaganda playbook.

Political people do such awful things there is no longer any need to bring up race, religion or sexual preference. Politician´s frightening actions speak for themselves.

All the new name calling agitating tricks, as beautifully laid out by VDH, thank you, ARE agitated based on insurance, as he points out so brilliantly. VDH´s article is a keeper, to be kept handy at all times, to BUST the privileged insured fascists when they cross the lines of decency and fair play.
Hey, they do that every day!

WASHINGTON – Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson expressed confidence that the federal government can successfully deal with the surge of unaccompanied children crossing the southern border but it likely will cost billions of dollars to deal with the ongoing crisis. In testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Johnson urged lawmakers to adopt the $3.7 billion plan proposed by President Obama, warning that revenues are running low in the Department of Homeland Security because of outlays already used to address the situation. Without the supplemental funding, Johnson told lawmakers, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will run out of money sometime in

A month before former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called for President Barack Obama to be impeached on the pages of Breitbart News over his lawlessness on illegal immigration, Obama was already concerned that his unilateral actions on immigration could warrant impeachment. He even kind of joked with pro-amnesty activists not to push him to do something that would get him impeached. Here´s how Politico describes what occurred during a private meeting between Obama and pro-amnesty activists last month: President Barack Obama listened to immigration activists run through a long wish list of executive actions – then added a request of

Despite evidence that the current border crisis is at least partly the result of its previous executive action on immigration, the White House decided it was merely a "public relations problem" and moved forward with plans to issue further executive actions along similar lines. The New York Times has a piece out today which contains some new insight into the White House´s thinking about the border crisis and how it relates to the President´s stated goal of taking action on immigration without Congress. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

The headline in the Washington Post on June 4 was clear: Rove-backed American Crossroads won’t get involved in Cochran runoff Said the Post story the day after Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel had defeated six-term Mississippi GOP Senator Thad Cochran in the first round of the state’s GOP primary: American Crossroads, a GOP establishment organization, has decided to shift its political focus almost entirely to the general election and will not be spending money in the likely runoff election to decide the Mississippi Senate nomination that was virtually deadlocked after Tuesday night. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
