What I learned as a liberal
talking head on Fox News

Christian Science Monitor, by Sally Kohn

Original Article

Posted By:NorthernDog, 4/15/2014 2:28:47 PM

New York - In the fall of 2013, I gave a TED talk on what I learned as a progressive, on-air talking head at Fox News, where I worked for two years before leaving and joining my current home, CNN. After all, one of the most frequent questions I was asked during my time at Fox was how I did it, how I was a fox in the henhouse – or a hen in the Fox house, if you will. (Snip) For a radical progressive who once harbored negative stereotypes about folks on the right, it was a turning point

Why Sally still doesn´t get it:

FTA: I´ve found that liberals and conservatives share many of the same concerns and problems and simply gravitate toward two different sides in searching for solutions.

No, Sally - you and other assorted Leftists continue to look for solutions from government. We on the Right have long known that government isn´t the solution, government is the problem! Wake up, Sally!

FTA: Personally, I agree with the side that says our problems, our barriers to opportunity, are the result of runaway economic inequality baked into our society by giant corporations that have crippled our government and our community supports in order to get whatever they want, and as much of it, at our expense.

Its called crony capitalism practiced by the "establishment" on both sides.

Okay, she has only now reached late adolescence/young adult status - still influenced by her ´heart´. If she will continue to grow and feed her ´mind´ she will switch sides, albeit sheepishly. Give her time especially when she now works surrounded by those who while sharing her viewpoints may not share her deeper values. There is still hope for her.

She makes an excellent point, reinforced by the comments here. Partisanship isn´t the problem. We´ve always had ideological divides. Our political problems stem from the need to vilify the opposition instead of debating them on the merits of their ideas. Both sides do too much of it.

The only time she mentions "listening" is about how to get people to listen to you. Apparently it hasn´t crossed her mind that she should listen first and try to understand. The whole focus is "bringing them around". Why bother?

I remember seeing Sally Kohn just one time on the discussion panel of Bret Baier´s show. Her style of argument was rude, artless ad hominem attacks, regurgitating age old, shopworn Democrat talking points as though they were some form of verbal amulet to ward off evil conservative spirits. What she lacked in cogency, which was everything she said, she obviously thought she could make up for with displays of Occupy-style attitude. At bottom, she came off as thoroughly dislikable, as all "radical progressives" tend to be. So long, dogberry.

What you did NOT learn, Sally, is how the world works. Youse on the Left like to think you´re "reality based" while you spend your time evading and twisting reality at every turn.

It´s well known on the Right that while we think your side is wrong, your side thinks we are evil. You seem to be addressing that without addressing it. It´s your side that defecates on cop cars, trashes places and shouts down conservative speakers. When you hang out with and support people who behave like that, you can´t in seriousness think the bad guys are those who respect property, leave open spaces cleaner than they found them and listen politely to points of view they disagree with. But that is what you´re doing.

The tiny few who fit liberal conceptions of conservatives - aren´t even conservatives. They´re lunatics. You have met real conservatives and found them decent people. These are the sort who call the shots on the Right.

By contrast, the overwhelming number who fit conservative conceptions of liberals - are the heart and soul of liberalism. I do know liberals who are decent folks, but they are not the ones who call the shots on the Left.

These are the realities, Sally, and you say nothing about them. Nor does any other Lefty. Hence nobody on the Right can take you seriously as a political commentator because you don´t recognize reality - you don´t acknowledge how the world works.
