Glaring limits of the Civil Rights
Act: We need to redistribute wealth

Salon Magazine, by Matt Bruenig

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 4/14/2014 7:20:41 PM

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Duct tape alert! Uh, is this guy too stupid to realize that is what Obama is doing?? They really don´t need any more encouragement. This article is extremely disturbing in that these radical leftists actually belief this tripe.

There has been a redistribution of wealth, it has been going on for the past 50 years. That´s why poor people in the third world have to worry where their next meal is going to come on while poor people in the US riot over $100 sneakers while other poor people record the riot on their smartphones.

FTA:Ideally, we could work towards reparations in the form of redistributing wealth along racial lines.

How much more racist can you get? Why should people be given money just because of their skin color?

The civil rights legislation provided opportunity. Wealth is to be earned by taking advantage of that opportunity, NOT by taking advantage of hard-working fellow citizens.

Government action cannot fix the wealth disparities in the USA. If the government were to confiscate all wealth across the USA and then hand out the same amounts of money and property to each person in the USA, in ten years, most of the people who are wealthy today would be wealthy then, and most of the people who are dirt poor today would be dirt poor then.

Redistributing the wealth isn´t going to do a damn thing that wealth redistribution hasn´t been able to accomplish in the past!
I´m really getting tired of hearing the same old, broken-record argument of improving failed schools, and new “turn around models”. Urban renewal and “new” plans for this, that and the other thing for at least 50 years that I personally know about! We´ve sunk untold billions of dollars into improvements over the decades and things aren´t any better today than they were in 1970. Nothing ever changes and if the truth were known it´s probably worse. At lease kids then didn´t walk around with their pants on the ground and, oh yeah, they had something called fathers! After this many decades it´s pretty obvious that it´s all pure crap and that we´re all living in a bad version of Groundhog Day, the movie!
Want proof? Simply show me any run down, burned out, poverty-stricken, rat-infested ghetto full of unemployed, uninformed, barely aware, dope-smoking, Food-Stamp wielding, Escalade driving, Kool-Aid drinking, government-dependent, entitlement-rich, free-stuff-grabbing, short-attention span Lo Foz and I will show you DECADES of democRat lies, skullduggery and complete dominance that has been taking advantage of Black people for political gain by selling Hope and Change for a lot longer than that phony baloney plastic banana republic socialist hood-ornament inhabiting the White House! Even after electing the “first Black President”, elected by a significant percentage of the White population I might add, we´re still all racists!
How much longer do we continue to play the sucker and how much more proof do we need to demonstrate what a complete and total scam designed to suck money out of the system to be squandered on the piggies running stupid Kabuki show in the name of wealth re-distribution?

If the government were to confiscate all wealth across the USA and then hand out the same amounts of money and property to each person in the USA, within SECONDS some people would be worth more then others!

We once had a wealth redistro scheme that did a good job of taking from the rich and giving to the poor. The way it worked was, the rich guy invested in a business. He redistributed his wealth to a buncha poor guys who did what he asked in return for the redistribution of the rich guy´s money to them. Over time they got pretty well-off themselves from all that dude´s dough being redistributed from him to them. After awhile, the rich guy began to get some of his dough back in the form of dividends. In this way, he got richer at the same time the poor guys all got richer.

That scheme worked right well for a couple centuries. Maybe we oughtta try it again sometime.

#6, Hambone is spot on. There is a good reason wealth creators, in contrast to wealth inheritors, remain wealthy; they have the necessary attitudes and behaviors. How many times have we heard the tale of some minority winning the lottery only to find out they´re broke within 3 years. Same is true of boxers, basketball, football players etc. most of whom earned multimillions, then ended up on welfare and in a nursing home! This redistributionist crapola is right out of Das Kapital; the Hymnal of the Fabian Socialists. Perhaps Jebster can find a place for this moron Bruenig, on his campaign staff. If so, expect to hear about more ´acts of love´ in the form of wealth redistribution, in the near future.

Conservatives are still bitter about the 1964 Civil Rights Act?
It was conservatives that passed the act.

It was Democrats like Lester Maddox, Orval Faubus and George Wallace" -- governors of Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama -- who blocked the schoolhouse doors.

In the House of Representatives, 80% of Republicans (138 for, 38 against) voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act, while only 61% of Democrats (152 for, 96 against) voted for it.

In the Senate, 69% of Democrats (46 for, 21 against) voted for the Act while 82% of Republicans did (27 for, 6 against). All southern Democrats voted against the Act.

The Democrats also filibustered 83 days against the bill.

Albert Gore Sr and former Klansman Robert Byrd were two of the Democrats who opposed the bill.

Byrd filibustered for more than 14 hours straight.

Bill Clinton´s mentor, William J Fulbright voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He voted against the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Even John F Kennedy voted against Eisenhower’s 1957 Civil Rights Act.

I also know a family that has a 6 figure income, but literally lives paycheck-to-paycheck because that don´t seem to have any concept of how to manage and spend money. Hint: Big name clothes and shoes (baby Nikes) for infants are not a good deal.

That’s 10 times the number from 2008, when President Barack Obama was elected, and it is evidence his immigration officials are agreeing that many people in the growing wave of Central American migrants face a “credible fear” of harm if they are returned. Official approval allows the migrants to file for asylum in immigration court, where judges will approve or reject the asylum request. On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. Millions of Americans this summer will enjoy yet another “staycation”: They just can’t afford to go to the beach or the mountains, even for a week — again. (Snip) Forget that the United States is deep into what Mr. Obama dramatically declares a “humanitarian crisis,” that the Middle East is a powder keg about to blow, that Iraq has all but fallen to Islamist terrorists. (Why not forget; the president has.)

A Fox News exclusive reported this morning by Jana Winter inexplicably buried the lede. Winter reports that several dead children have been discovered “washed up along the riverbank” of the Rio Grande, but fails to note that there have been no reports by the Obama administration on this. This indicates a pattern of covering up dead illegal alien kids by the Obama administration. It was two weeks before news was reported on the sole child death acknowledged by the Obama administration, Gilberto Ramos, a 15 year-old boy from Guatemala whose body was found in the Texas brush dead from the

In his weekly radio/YouTube address, President Obama derided House Republicans’ planned lawsuit against him, warning that GOP lawmakers will spend taxpayer dollars on a frivolous legal challenge. “It’s a political stunt that’s going to waste months of America’s time. And by the way, they’re going to pay for it using your hard-earned tax dollars,” Obama said. (Video) House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has orchestrated the beginnings of a lawsuit against the president over his use of executive authority. As the White House and the GOP-controlled House have failed to compromise on a slew of issues during Obama’s tenure, the president has

President Obama is “absolutely” the most transparent president in history, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Sunday after the White House received a letter from signed by a dozen top journalists’ groups complaining about the administration’s policies toward the media. “There are a number of steps that we´ve taken to give people greater insight into what´s happening at the White House,” Earnest said in an interview with CNN’s “Reliable Sources.” The letter, signed by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Poynter Institute, among others, accuses the White House of "politically driven suppression of news and information about federal agencies." It

First lady Michelle Obama grabbed the political reins during a speech to the League of United Latin American Citizens in New York City, telling the crowd of admirers not to worry — that her husband wouldn’t wait on Congress to take action on immigration reform. “So make no mistake about it — we have to keep on fighting as hard as we can on immigration,” Mrs. Obama said, to a cheering crowd, Breitbart reported. “And as my husband has said, he’s going to do whatever administrative action it takes to fix this broken system.” Mrs. Obama then vowed that Congress wouldn’t get

Friday on "Democracy Now," Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) attacked his "shameful" Republican colleagues for wanting to change the 2008 child trafficking law so that the children from from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador current streaming across the border in hopes of evading deportation will be treated the same as those from Mexico before approving the $3.7 billion in emergency funding the president has requested. The Illinois Democrat said, "I think it is shameful that in the Congress of the U.S. we see members of Congress engendering and creating fear of children. We should be protecting children, not creating fear of them." Yesterday,

The “ugly American” has gotten a lot uglier over the past few weeks, from the streets of California to the halls of Congress and state houses around the country. A growing number of our fellow Americans have taken on grotesque features, in looks and sounds, in reaction to the thousands of children from Central America who have crossed our borders as they flee poverty and violence in hope for something better. Sadly, the arrival of these youngsters has been greeted by flag-waving, sign-carrying, Bible-thumping and Constitution-quoting citizens demanding that they not be received here and that they be returned immediately to their

In remarks framed as a message to the American public, actor Jon Voight emotionally aired his political grievances for several minutes in a televised statement on Saturday. Those grievances range from (but are not limited to) Benghazi, the IRS scandal, the "targeting" of conservative filmmaker Dinesh D´Souza, illegal immigration, the Hobby Lobby Supreme Court case, the treatment of war veterans, the chaos in Iraq and deep reservations about President Obama. "Five years ago, I stated that Obama would take the country apart piece-by-piece, that he would cause a civil war in this country," Voight read on Saturday in a statement on
