Stop the Revisionism:
LBJ Was No Liberal Hero

New Republic, by Michael Kazin

Original Article

From 1964 to 1968, close to 34,000 Americans died in South Vietnam. We will never know how many Vietnamese women, men, and children perished during those years, but the total, according to most estimates, was at least one million. Among the dead were tens of thousands of civilians—blown apart by explosives dropped from planes, burned to death by napalm, or gunned down by U.S. troops whose commanders told them that, in a village considered loyal to the Vietcong, they should “kill anything that we see and anything that moved.” Their commander-in-chief was Lyndon Baines Johnson. This past week, on the

´Liberal´ = ´Socialist´, of any stripe be it communist, fascist, Fabian, totalitarian, statist, etc. So, of course LBJ was a "liberal". For the control freaks words frequently mean the opposite of their traditional or even broadly understood meaning, even words like ´truth´ or ´compassion´. "Liberals" are your nasties like the interment president, the rapist ex-president, the weasel of the Senate, the punk in the White House, the simpleton ex-leader in the House, the criminal heading the justice department, the race hustlers, the vile comics, etc. In conclusion, LBJ is is a qualified "liberal" hero.

He was no civil rights hero either. Didn´t he say " I´ll have those n-word voting Democrat for the next 200 years."? Not an exact quote but it reveals his true feelings towards blacks. They are nothing more than means to more power for the Democrats who could careless about the condition of the black community as long as they vote Democrat.

I suggest to anyone, fan of Lyndon Johnson or not, to read any one or all four of Robert Caro´s LBJ biographies. I have read three of them, books 1, 2 and 4. I despised and continue to feel that same way about Lyndon Johnson, but those Caro books are of great value in understanding the man and the times.

My family holds a great grudge against Johnson over the 1948 theft of the Senate seat which should have gone to Governor Coke Stevenson. We. knew and loved the governor.

But, if you´re a reader and if recent history interests you, I recommend the Caro books.

Onliest reason LBJ isn´t a lib hero today is that his name´s not Kennedy and he wasn´t part of the establishment-liberal in-crowd. He did nothing that Ted et al didn´t do and was rather better at it.

IOW: Libs detest LBJ for the same reason they hated W. Bush: He was Texan.

During my time in Texas I learned many life-changing lessons, all for the good. I never could understand the Texans´ default position on the obviously crooked and deranged LBJ: Lionized figure.

Of course, 25 of those years were spent in Austin.

Malaysia jet most likely on autopilot

Malaysia Airlines (MASM.KL) Flight MH370 was most likely on autopilot when it crashed into the Indian Ocean further south than previously thought, Australian officials said on Thursday, as they charted the next phase of a so far fruitless search. The new analysis comes more than 100 days after the Boeing (BA.N) 777, carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared on March 8 shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing. Investigators say what little evidence they have to work with suggests the plane was deliberately diverted thousands of kilometres from its scheduled route before eventually plunging into the Indian Ocean. LAUREL, Mississippi -- Defeated Tea Party U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel issued a statement Wednesday afternoon indicated a challenge of Tuesday night´s results from his Republican runoff with Sen. Thad Cochran was still a possibility. "The conservative movement is alive in Mississippi," McDaniel said. "The Republicans who voted last night made it clear they´re looking for conservative change in Mississippi. "But the results also tell another story," McDaniel continued. "They tell the story of some members of our party who are willing to engage in tactics unbecoming of the party of Ronald Reagan. It´s no wonder so many conservatives don´t feel welcome

As the Army continues to investigate whether Sgt. In fact, that´s all that the Army said: We have no reason to believe that he engaged in any misconduct." Bergdahl electrified the national discourse last month after he was freed in a prisoner swap involving five members of the Taliban held at Guantanamo Bay. As charges against his character emerged, the narrative quickly shifted from Bergdahl as POW to Bergdahl as despicable deserter, unworthy

I’m gratified that Senator Paul responded to my criticism of the constitutionality of his plan for a federal bill to reenfranchise some felons, but I’m afraid that his response is quite unpersuasive. Senator Paul seems to think that states can decide who votes in state elections but that the federal government has the final say on who can vote in federal elections, but that is just not true. The U.S. Constitution itself explicitly gives the authority to decide who votes in federal elections to the states (consistent, of course, with other constitutional guarantees, like the prohibition of poll taxes). The federal government has spent nearly $5 billion to establish federal and state exchanges for Obamacare, according to a report by the Congressional Research Service (CRS). The funding was provided by a section of the Affordable Care Act that allowed for “indefinite” funding at the discretion of the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). “The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is incurring significant administrative costs to support [federally-facilitated exchanges] FFE operations,” the report, which was released earlier this month, said. Senator Thad Cochran´s narrow victory over Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi Senate runoff deprives Democrats of their argument that Republicans are beholden to the Tea Party wing of their party. But it offers them some optimism that African-American voters will show up in healthy numbers for the midterm elections, given that they made the difference in a Republican runoff in a deeply conservative state. There was clear evidence that Cochran´s attempt to boost Democratic African-American turnout paid off in a big way. In Jackson´s Hinds County, where two-thirds of the population is black, Cochran won 73 percent of the

It is objectively true that Clinton’s “dead broke” comment earned her mockery from political analysts and allies alike. An empirical analysis of the political landscape would force any competent observer to concede that the former secretary of state has spent the last two weeks performing damage control in the effort to limit the fallout from that comment. Even former President Bill Clinton was forced to defend his wife’s claim from the censure of fact-checkers. Those center-left media personalities who do not thrive on the crafting Slate-like, absurdly counter-intuitive takes, have observed the obvious: Clinton’s week has been an atrocious one.

Thad Cochran’s political resurrection began with a campaign shakeup and ended with a Hail Mary television ad. Just three weeks ago, in the dead of night on June 3, the Mississippi senator’s staff sat shaken and dejected, crestfallen at the results of a primary that deprived the six-term incumbent of an electoral majority. With Cochran forced into a runoff fight against an aggressive and energetic challenger, a dark mood shadowed his backers in Washington and Mississippi.Yet almost immediately, the Cochran coalition began bouncing back. National conservative groups are angry after incumbent Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled off a victory in the state’s GOP run-off — likely because of his campaign’s outreach to Democratic voters. “It’s disgraceful that self-described GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell, John McCain, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRSC would champion a campaign platform of pork barrel spending and insider deal-making, while recruiting Democrats to show up at the polls,” Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks said after the results came in. Tuesday’s closely-watched run-off came after conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel edged Cochran in votes in the initial election earlier this month.

Republicans are in the strongest position to win back the Senate since losing it eight years ago. Over several months, the party has expanded its range of targeted seats, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has helped defeat insurgents it didn’t want representing the GOP in the midterm elections.
