Nevada Cattle Rancher Wins
´Range War´ With Feds

ABC News, by Liz Fields

Original Article

A Nevada cattle rancher appears to have won his week-long battle with the federal government over a controversial cattle roundup that had led to the arrest of several protesters. Cliven Bundy went head to head with the Bureau of Land Management over the removal of hundreds of his cattle from federal land, where the government said they were grazing illegally. Bundy claims his herd of roughly 900 cattle have grazed on the land along the riverbed near Bunkerville, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, since 1870 and threatened a "range war" against the BLM on the Bundy Ranch website after one of

Misleading statement, he´s won nothing except more of the same by the government, as soon as the heat cools down.

Won? The court orders are still outstanding and whatever cattle haven´t been rounded up are still grazing free. The government simply pulled back to prevent a tragedy.

I notice the government started backing off as soon as the news about Harry Reid, his son, and the Chinese company wanting to set up a large solar panel power generation installation and there was all that Federal land that would be in effect free land for the installation. Also the basic dispute on why the BLM was getting fees for land management when they haven´t managed anything in that areas for years. Any improvements come out of ranchers pockets. The optics and the internal polling where starting to look real ugly.

Half the "war" is public perception so yes indeed the family won a temporary reprieve. The Obama thugs were not worried about ANY of these ranchers getting hurt. They are worried about all the overkill military tactics against this family being seen on live TV 24/7. #4 is absolutely correct.

Do we really want the FEDS controlling our water, our food, our healthcare?

the government backed off, so many hot heads shrieking about how this is gonna be the shot heard round the world and for everyone to grab their guns and rush to Nevada to protect their freedom and save America it was only a matter of til someone got shot.

As for Reid and the Chinese please return to the reality based community. The court order to seize the cattle was issued in 1998 I rather doubt the Solar industry was that prescient.

I love freedom as much as any Ldotter but this is not the cause to fight for. This fight goes back to the Taylor Grazing act of 1934 and to the Grazing reforms in 1887 (which is such a coincidence, the year after this guy claims he got his "rights".

The fact is he has argued that the Taylor act is unconstitutional and lost, he has argued that Nevada owns the land and has lost, he has argued that the Federal Court system has no jurisdiction over him because he does not recognize its authority. That´s the same argument Abdul Jamar has used to fight his conviction for cop killing. He has argued that since the feds did use all of his grazing fees to make physical improvements on his range so he can make more money negates the Taylor grazing act and has lost.

The bottom line is that the grazing policy on BLM lands is a huge muddle but somehow tens of thousands of other ranchers seem to have managed to work with the BLM.

So either we are a nation of laws or not. Because to back his particular cause is to argue that the federal system longer valid and that this nations laws no longer should apply.

I suspect that Harry Reid knows he is about to lose his clout and has precipitated this action.

All of this was started because some environmental nut complained about some desert tortoise being "endangered". This has been a tactic of the environmental kooks for a long time now. When they want to force a change in some land use or a forest or wetland they always look for an "endangered" species to press their agenda. Some tiny minnow in California (smelt?). They do it every time and get away with it. The kooks are taking over our country a far too many of us are not coming forward and doing something about it.

I guess those here rooting for the government in this by chastening or correcting others aren´t aware that the BLM descended upon the ranch with armed force and tactical fighting gear, pointed guns and rifles at peaceful protestors, initiated violence by taking an elderly US citizen - a woman no less - to the ground, released attack-trained german shepherds and tazed US citizens.

Perhaps the government sycophants here also don´t recognize the fact that these same government agents tried to set up 1st amendment zones miles away from the activities people went to protest, that they implemented a 30 day ´no f.y´ zone over the area and that they told a group of US citizens that they had valid "court orders´ and threatened to shoot any US citizen who crossed some imaginary line.

Perhaps some of us here also see the same 3 or 4 posters on threads like these where liberty and freedom are at hand continually carry the government water...

#7´s argument is the same used with the Jim Crow laws. It´s the law so we must abide ... regardless of the right ands wrong of it ... and besides most the nation abided by the Jim Crow laws so it must be right.
Sorry, but the government has overstepped it boundaries in almost every area of our lives and our representatives have turned into our rulers. It is time for a pushback, whenever and wherever.

So #7 when the federal government passes a law which states all land is federal land and anyone who owns a home that home is on federal land now and must pay a user fee, you will be in favor of that because it is the LAW even if it is bad law and even if people owned their home and the land before the government declared all private held land is now federal public land. It can happen. There are things Obama has done that I thought I would never see in the United States but here we are in a totalitarian government, and we are all required to purchase a product some of us don´t want nor need.

Oh by the way, 1977 - The Solar Energy Research Institute is established at Golden, Colorado.
1977 - President Jimmy Carter installs solar panels on the White House and promotes incentives for solar energy systems.
1977 - The world production of photovoltaic cells exceeded 500 kW
1978 - First solar-powered calculators.[9]
Late 1970s: the "Energy Crisis"; groundswell of public interest in solar energy use: photovoltaic and active and passive solar, including in architecture and off-grid buildings and home sites

All that happened well before 1998. I could go on, but look it up yourself.

As far as the other ranchers, the Bundy Ranch is the last ranch in that county. All the other ranchers the feds have made life miserable, and they sold their ranches.

An earlier thread today on this topic was readable and educational. This one is poisoned by a few pro-government serfs and their choruses of "Like" lackeys.

Please ignore these provocateurs in the future. To engage with them on this thread means that they have accomplished their primary Alinsky goal of dividing and distracting us.

I hate to remind you of this, but their numbers (and alternate identities) will increase as the Dem´s position worsens and the election looms.

And on a lighter note, I learned a new term from reading the BLM document today, where these bureaucrats described their brutal assault on the Bundy family as a "cow gather." [Can´t you just see two grizzled cowboys bellied up to a bar with one asking the other, "Didn´t I see you at last year´s cow gather?" OK, maybe in Brokeback Mountain.]

I understand the members here frustration level with this government has boiled over. I agree that the government has overstepped too many boundries and I think the BLM´s actions in respect to "Free Speech " zones and a militarized response are uncalled for I

I also believe that calling me an ignorant anklegrabbing government apologist is also uncalled for. As to reading more about this I have, and not just the current almost rabid press. I have read the blogs, I have read a lot of old newspaper stories, I have read the court order, I have read what I can find of the official court record. I have read the history of the sagebrush rebellion, I have read "How the west was Lost" I have read the Taylor grazing act in its entirety. I have also read both sides claims as to what the Hage case did and did not decide.

I have done all this and I have come to the conclusion that this is Not the cause I am willing to spark an armed revolt over.

I find it somewhat unsettling how eager so many (not just on this site, which is quite mild actually) are to see this blow up into a full fledged shooting war with Bundy playing the part of George Washington, Lincoln and David all at the same time.

I have decided that this issue is not one which rises to the level of an armed revolt. You may decide differently. You are free to do so, I thought the constitution established I was free to think differently.

It also frowns heavily on multiple posts and the potentially rancorous environment such conversations too often devolve too.

For multiple posting I sincerely apologize to the L-Comm Staff. This will be the last post on this or any future Bundy related thread I will make.

This is nothing more than environmentalist over reach. We the people are subject to changes of rules by a strong armed government, who cares not that what they do impacts innocent citizens.

Any one of us could get up one morning and find our whole lives in a turmoil caused by bureaucreats. It could be the IRS, the EPA, the BLM and any other jumble of letters signifying a government agency. If it isn´t the TSA, it could be the NSA; the possibilities are varied and many.

The Bundy´s were subject to a tyrannical government, whose reasons are only known to Harry Reid, the EPA, the Interior Department or related government entity. One day we will awaken and be taxed on our pets; the same pets that we´ve had for years untaxed. After all they do their personal business in public parks, therefore the tax.

It may be that this might not be the "hill we want to die on." However, the characterization of those who went to the Bundy ranch to protest as trigger happy zealots who were itching to get into a gun battle is also over the top. It was a "show" of force, and although some on this board may think it was excessive it was obviously "just right" because it brought enough publicity to make the BLM back off.

Many at the time of the first American Revolution didn´t understand the uproar over the Stamp Act or the tax on tea. It was only a minor inconvenience, a little tax, no big deal. It was, however, a big deal to those who saw it as another encroachment on their liberty.

Those of us who support the Bundys feel the same. This is a small victory, but it´s a victory all the same. We made them blink.

Thank you #4 and #35 for shining light on the real reason for this land grab deal to benefit Harry Reid, his son, and the Chinese, so they could build a solar facility. There are reports that the BLM has been shooting the tortoises that they say they are protecting because they don´t have the resources to take care of them. Regardless, grazing cattle do not harm the tortoises. However, turning their habitat into a construction site does pose a threat to the tortoises. First there was Solindra, now this. This reeks of corruption. And, I mean more than a smidgen.

The turtle excuse is getting really old.
If you want to build anything in
Southern Nevada you MUST get a turtle survey completed by some moron for a couple of hundred bucks. Even if it is between one of the Billion dollar hotels on the strip. They passed that law years ago, so that the rights groups could make a few bucks for their funding, and make people that are not the right people miserable.

This whole episode is about a power grab by certain individuals. Harry Reid is the most crooked jerk around. He has been scamming people since the early 70´s. his days may be numbered after this little fiasco.

FYI ... from my local TEA Party...

"There is little doubt that when the feds saw this notice and press release (below) by Mack´s Constitutional Sheriffs Posse of America (www.cspoa.org), they realized they needed to get out of Dodge before the Posse showed up....This is the "soft underbelly of our opponents": fear of large numbers of citizens and leadership groups like CSPOA and OK. Here are the words that I am certain sent chills up the feds´ backs (they don´t have spines):

"...The goal is to have at least one current serving state legislator and at least one sheriff on the ground at all times until this is over. And they will be backed by a large number of military and police veterans, as well as dedicated patriotic Americans from all walks of life, to interpose and defend the rights of the protesters and to keep an eye on the actions of the BLM and any other federal law enforcement present ..."

I´ll stand with these ... and Patrick Henry.

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Robert Krebs ordered Jackson County Circuit Clerk Joe Martin to allow Chris McDaniel campaign supporters access to poll books from the June 3 and June 24 Republican U.S. Senate elections during an writ of mandamus emergency hearing this morning. State Sen. Michael Watson of Pascagoula argued the case for McDaniel, one of his close friends and political allies. McDaniel´s campaign is trying to gather information on voting "irregularities" across the state to challenge his June 24 runoff loss to Sen. Thad Cochran. Cochran finished with a 7,667-vote margin of victory, according to official results.

Welcome to America! As reported earlier today by Kristinn Taylor… The Obama administration has awarded a $50 million contract to a charitable group to buy a Texas resort hotel and transform it in to a 600 bed facility for juvenile illegal aliens. The beautiful Palm Aire resort and hotel has an indoor Olympic sized pool and an outdoor pool. Free Wi-Fi and cable TV are included in the simply decorated guest rooms. The Palm Aire Hotel and Suites is set to be sold to Baptist Child & Family Services (BCFS) operating under a federal contract, pending local government approval, according

The former Taliban prisoner is gearing up for the investigation into his disappearance and abduction in Afghanistan. His new lawyer says Bergdahl is grateful to the president for making the prisoner swap that brought him home. U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has a new lawyer to defend him as the Army investigates the circumstances surrounding his kidnapping by the Taliban in 2009. And the former hostage wants President Obama to know that he is grateful the U.S. government traded five Taliban commanders in exchange for his release in May. “Sergeant Bergdahl is deeply grateful to President Obama for saving his life,” Bergdahl’s

If the Palestinians are merely engaged in a nationalist struggle for self-determination, then why are they inciting genocide of Jewry? In the midst of Operation Protective Edge, Hamas released a music video in Hebrew calling for the Palestinians to bomb Israel and kill all Israelis. “Raze it [Israel] to the ground, exterminate the cockroaches’ nest, and banish all the Zionists,” the lyrics read. Some human rights activists and lawyers may get a sense of déjà vu upon reading these words. Back in 1994, there were several radio broadcasts calling for the extermination of human cockroaches. They were in Rwanda. When the Hutus began their

TOPEKA, Kan. — Democratic challenger Paul Davis sought Tuesday to give his campaign for Kansas governor a bipartisan boost by announcing endorsements from more than 100 moderate Republicans who´ve split with conservative GOP Gov. Sam Brownback over education and tax policy. The disaffected Republicans include outgoing Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, three former Kansas Senate presidents and three former Kansas House speakers. More than half are former legislators, and the list includes former U.S. Rep. Jan Meyers, who represented the Kansas City-area 3rd District from 1985 to 1997. They announced that they formed Republicans for Kansas Values because of their concerns about the

The headline from AP certainly is alarming: “100 Kansas GOP endorse Democrat for governor.” And the lead paragraph continues the theme: Democratic challenger Paul Davis sought Tuesday to give his campaign for Kansas governor a bipartisan boost by announcing endorsements from more than 100 moderate Republicans who´ve split with conservative GOP Gov. Sam Brownback over education and tax policy. You might be wondering, to borrow Thomas Frank’s infamous book title, “What’s the matter with Kansas”? I can’t claim to be an expert on the Jayhawker State, but it does appear that this is a matter of sour grapes: Six state senators on

The U.S. deported Honduran children as young as 1-1/2 years old on Monday in the first flight since President Obama pledged to speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrant minors from Central America. Fleeing violence and poverty, record numbers of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have crossed into the United States over the past year, sparking intense debate about how to solve the problem. Monday´s flight from New Mexico to San Pedro Sula, the city with the highest murder rate in the world, returned 17 Honduran women, as well as 12 girls and nine boys, aged

The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
