Thought police on patrol
Washington Post, by Charles Krauthammer

Two months ago, a petition bearing more than 110,000 signatures was delivered to The Post, demanding a ban on any article questioning global warming. The petition arrived the day before publication of my column, which consisted of precisely that heresy. The column ran as usual. But I was gratified by the show of intolerance because it perfectly illustrated my argument that the left is entering a new phase of ideological agitation — no longer trying to win the debate but stopping debate altogether, banishing from public discourse any and all opposition. The proper word for that attitude is totalitarian. It

FTA: "What’s at play is sheer ideological prejudice — and the enforcement of the new totalitarian norm that declares, unilaterally, certain issues to be closed."

Liberal ideas do not stand up to critical thinking. No questioning. No debate. No conversation. Worst of all, no truth. Their ideology is predicated on feelings, not facts. It does not stand up to scrutiny. Therefore, just shut the heck up and believe what they tell you.

There is one group of "deniers" that the left embraces - the 9/11 Truthers.

Having lived behind the Iron Curtain for a few years, I´m terrified by what is happening to America.

liberals can not debate on merits of any position. It´s all about power so they attack, attack, attack the logical, moral, ethical position. In Florida, medical pot will be on fall ballot. Forget the AMA, FDA, Florida Medical Association, numerous drug agencies being against it, it´s merely a power play to get young people to the polls and vote Democratic. One personal injury attorney bankrolled the petition. It´s all about power.

Free speech is settled law. Get over it. Americans are no longer allowed to express their concerns or opposition to anything that goes against what liberals demand. It is over.

Don´t bother me with the facts. They do not matter. What matters is simply this is what they want and they will do ANYTHING to make it happen.

This includes - lying, cheating, voter fraud, false accusations, denials, hypocrisy, the list goes on.

Only a person with a closed mind could miss the change in the constitutional rights of America. When the IRS can target citizens for exercising the rights - when the government can lie openly about a tragedy like Benghazi, Fast and Furious, IRS scandals, etc. etc. - we have to know we are on the brink of a huge disaster in America.

This was clear the moment O got elected in 2008. This was the path. This was the predictable future and the future is now.

The last chance to really turn this around and limit the damage that is happening to the cultural divide in this country is the 2014 election. May God Bless America

Dare to express a thought not approved by the Thought Police, and you wind up with liberal jack boots pressing down on your neck, perhaps destroying your ability to earn a living. The “home of the brave” is becoming the home of the nervous wimps and the torch and pitch fork crowd running things. It brings a tear to George Orwell’s eye.

Over 40 years ago I say the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) completely shut down a professional meeting. When a renowned professor of psychometry stood up to speak--he tried for 20 minutes to respond to his critics--he was briskly ushered off stage. Not one person in the audience objected to what they had just witnessed!

Fast forward to Krauthammer´s "intimidated acquiescence." It´s here. It´s real. It´s now massive.

One swallow doth not a summer make, nor one fine day a spring.

Not to be the skunk at the picnic or anything, but this essay doesn´t un-blot Krauthammer´s copybook. He´s a liberal at heart, and it´s most unlikely that the mind-set that kept him from seeing what was blazingly clear to the rest of us six or seven years ago has changed.

In his recent columns up until this one, he did NOT acknowledge the unsoundness, unfeasibility, and ultimate evil of the tenets of liberalism and progressivism. Instead, he simply lamented the Current Occupant’s failure to live up (down) to those tenets.

Which is why, for me at least, the “good doctor” still has miles to go on the road to trustworthiness.

Totalitarian, collectivist, statist , fascist , socialist and very communist ! Those are all the appropriate dictator like, lawless meaning words that all of us patriot citizens
MUST HAVE THE GUTS to start using !

Even a few Ldotters are so scared, so fearful, they still call the craziness in Obama´s Washington, the lovely word "liberal", the beautiful sounding word that me and FREEDOM.

One of the semantic crimes of these last one hundred years, has been allowing totalitarian plotters against individual freedom, to call themselves the cover up label, use the fake ID word, of freedom! and be known as advocates for "liberalism" ......... When truly, all of these demoRat bums, RINO apologists, network news actors, NYTimes propagandists, ALL OF THEM! are stealth,
Undercover Communists !

Obama, Sharpton, Feinstein, Gore, ALL OF THESE commie agitators, are taking over your rights, right in front of your willing eyes.

Calling themselves the soft, unchallenged word of "liberal" is helping them pull off this communist takeover.

Don´t you get it? And good old Charlie can barely bring himself awake enough to dare to use the word,
""totalitarian". At least it´s a start.

Deniers of global warming have said their piece and the Washington Post is really being too nice to them. The WP is being nice enough to carry Krauthammer´s column.

The only way to fight Totalitarianism is VIGOROUSLY! Trying to establish "coexistence/bipartisanship" with such people is a waste of time. You either believe in personal liberty or you do not. Liberals do not. They must be opposed with every fiber of our being.

These repugnant people have been emboldened by BO´s election and the arrogant, illegal actions of his presidency. Most of what he has done is without the underpinning and legitimacy of law. Much will fade when BO does. It cannot happen soon enough.

(#6, the reason pot legalization will be on ballots is to get the numbskulls to the polls to vote D and pot)

Wondering if #12 is being facetious.

Overt, physical suppression by means of police or military does not begin at the beginning.

Even Stalin tip-toed toward the great purges. This is not to minimize Bolshevik atrocities from day one, including the man-caused famine in Ukraine. Granted, Lenin was pretty dang quick with his attacks on those "rich peasants"... too independent, too resistant to central powers, too much like tea partiers........

All utopians, those who promise paradise/nirvana/new world order, will always resort to physical force because human beings as they are do not easily conform or surrender their dreams or desires for the sake of the State.

Glad Dr. Krauthammer is waking up. But many of us spot the syndrome quickly, having studied totalitarian regimes and personalities.

I (a, let´s face it, "nobody"!) said in 2008 that BO was a "totalitarian with dictatorial impulses..."

There never has been a benevolent tyrant.

Perhaps the exposure of the Cummings – Lerner criminal collusion and corruption will be the spark?

I hope he stays in the fight and steps it up.

I know how powerful the leftist bubble is. We need as many as possible to break through. Excoriating them for not doing it soon enough is pointless and does nothing to help.

#12, your post seems out of character on this site without the "s/o" notation.

First, Krauthammer is not in prison because totalitarians are not yet in charge.

Second, he defined the attitude that the arguments are settled as “totalitarian”.

Third, the glow-bull warmers have said their piece and the settled science is falling to pieces because it lacks proof.

Fourth, the Post has been kind to the warmers, not the “deniers”, which the good doctor points out is the label used to demean the opposition. (Fourth and a half - You forgot to call us “teabaggers”).

Fifth, the fact that the Washington Post allows Krauthammer to write an opinion piece does not make the rag’s reporting unbiased; it just gives them the veil of fairness to folks like you.

And sixth, if you were trying to be sarcastic in your post, ignore mine, if you’re sincere, so am I.

In the foyer of the Central Intelligence Agency’s headquarters, there is a marble wall covered in stars. They are carved divots that represent those who have fallen in the service of the CIA. Below them, jutting out from the polished rock, is a black book entombed in a case of glass and steel. The book is a guide to the stars, giving the names of some of those who died and withholding the names of others. On the pages of the CIA’s Book of Honor are 107 hand-drawn stars organized by the years those officers died. For 2007, there is

SO FAR Hamas’s military campaign against Israel has been a dismal failure. Thanks in part to Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, some 1,200 rockets fired at Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities have caused only one Israeli death and a few other casualties. Attempted commando attacks via the sea and a tunnel were stopped short, and a drone that ventured into Israel was quickly shot down. Yet Hamas on Tuesday rejected an Egyptian cease-fire proposal that was supported by Western governments and the Arab League and had been accepted by Israel. Why would Hamas insist on continuing the fight when

Sarah Palin is right about impeaching President Obama. No, not that the president should be impeached. But Palin is correct in arguing that, for those who assert that Obama has grievously abused his executive authority, impeachment is the proper course of action. Of course this won’t happen, for the obvious reason that this tactic didn’t go so well for Republicans last time. Hence House Speaker John Boehner’s curt dismissal of Palin’s call for impeachment: “I disagree.” Boehner’s alternative — a lawsuit — offers the political benefits of draining impeachment fever from the more rabid Republican precincts while rallying the base

Israel’s pledge to intensify its military operation in the Gaza Strip could hasten the moment when the Obama administration will be forced to decide whether to use its leverage to corral its closest ally in the Middle East. Israeli officials, in a series of television interviews, statements and social-media venues, said Tuesday that Hamas’s rejection of a cease-fire offer validated the force it has used over eight days of conflict and made legitimate their argument for a wider military effort. The Obama administration appeared to accept that rationale, blaming the armed Islamist movement in Gaza for missing an opportunity to

President Obama has described his foreign-policy doctrine as an attempt to hit singles, doubles and the occasional home run. Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. President Obama is known for being competitive on the basketball court, but he´s also apparently a cutthroat pool player. Gov. John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., told reporters at the National Governors Association meeting on Sunday that the president surprised him by beat him in two consecutive games. To add insult to injury, the two were playing at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, a bar that Hickenlooper co-founded. "You know I´ll tell ya -- the man is a shark," Hickenlooper told reporters, Time reports. "I was up a few balls. I felt pretty good. I was actually wondering whether how hard should I --

“So far this year, Republicans in Congress have blocked every serious idea to strengthen the middle class.” –President Obama, weekly address, July 12, 2014 ~This has become a standard line in the president’s oratory, as part of making his case that he’s “acted this year to help working Americans on my own– when Congress won’t act.” The president started on this path on June 27, during a speech in Minnesota: “You know, sometimes I’m forcibly, you know, politic about how I say things, but I’m finding lately that I just want to say what’s on my mind. So, let me
